We are still trying to work out whether that is a proud achievement or a worrying sign for the future of beer discourse. We then return to Pub Court to deliver the verdict from last week’s case, which examined breweries using AI-generated artwork for beer packaging. The jury delivered sixteen votes in total, with the majority siding with the prosecution on the grounds that AI artwork threatens the livelihood of working artists. We unpack the arguments and discuss what this could mean for the future of design in the craft beer industry. In Australian craft beer news, we talk about the upcoming closure of Terella Brewing, which is set to shut its doors on March 15. We also talk about the news that BrewDog may be looking at a potential sale, a story that could have major implications for one of the most recognisable brands in modern craft beer.Back home in Australian beer news, we discuss the upcoming launch of FAFF Beer and the interesting “brew it and sell it out” model behind the brand. The question on trial was simple but surprisingly divisive: is it acceptable to bring your own beer to a BBQ and not share it? The community weighed in with their votes and we break down the results and reactions. The discussion then moves into global beer industry trends, looking at a Kirin study that highlights how beer sales are shifting around the world. What does the data say about the future of beer consumption, and how might it affect the craft beer scene? We also talk about beer releases and hype launches, sparked by the annual excitement around Russian River’s Pliny The Younger, one of the most talked-about limited release beers in the world. From queues and allocation systems to the culture around rare beer releases, we unpack how these launches work and why people chase them.Another topic making the rounds recently was the idea of so-called “secret shoppers” checking pubs. We clarify what was actually happening, which was Weights & Measures inspecting glassware to ensure venues are serving the correct volume and that drinkers are getting what they pay for. It was less about bartenders being unable to pour a beer and more about compliance and measurement. We also discuss Range Brewing’s Juicy Jnr festival, which emerged after the cancellation of the larger Juicy Beer Festival, and what events like this mean for the local craft beer community.During the episode we also mention that we are currently on the hunt for intro and outro music for the podcast, so if you have ideas or suggestions, we would love to hear them. Finally, we introduce the next Pub Court case for listeners to judge.
