| 4/30/26 | ![]() Escaping All-or-Nothing Thinking: The Power of Cognitive Flexibility | Have you ever had a really intense reaction to something... And then, once the emotion came down, looked back at the situation and thought: why did that feel so overwhelming? Why did I react the way I did? Because the situation itself didn't actually match the reaction you had. Here's what I want you to understand: most of us experience emotional distress not because of what's happening around us. We experience it because our thinking becomes extreme, rigid and fixed. And when that happens, our perception actually narrows. Think of it like this. Imagine walking down the street and being able to see everything in front of you, the full, wide picture. You can see what's coming and you can respond to what's actually there. Now imagine that view narrowing to almost nothing. That's what happens to an untrained mind under stress. The ability you have to see the nuances of the situation disappear. The range of seeing all sides disappears. And you're left with the most extreme version of whatever you're looking at. All good or all bad. Success or failure. Always or never. This is what we call all-or-nothing thinking, and it's one of the most common patterns we work with inside the Cognitive Freedom Method™. In this episode, I walk you through: Why emotional distress rarely comes from external events, and where it actually originates The most common all-or-nothing patterns (and the specific words that signal you're in one) Why extreme thinking intensifies your emotional reactions and makes situations feel more threatening than they are What the "cognitive narrowing effect" is and how to recognize it in yourself What cognitive flexibility actually means and why it's a skill you can train __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. | 4/23/26 | ![]() The Rise and Fall of Emotions: Understanding the Emotional Wave | Has an emotion ever hit you so hard that you were convinced it would never pass? The panic. The anger. The overwhelm. And in the middle of it, some part of your brain whispers: this is just how it is now. This episode is about that moment. And why that belief is one of the most important misconceptions we can unlearn. In this episode, the sixth in my 12-part series on the Cognitive Freedom Method™, I'm walking you through one of my favorite concepts inside the methodology: the emotional wave. Because here's what most of us were never taught: Emotions don't last forever. They move in a predictable, wave-like pattern. And once you understand that pattern, everything changes. Inside this conversation, I walk you through: Why most people believe difficult emotions are permanent (and why that belief creates so much suffering) The three-part wave structure: rise, peak, and fall Why we tend to react at exactly the wrong moment The common behaviors that show up when we try to escape emotional discomfort What "reappraising permanence" means and how to start practicing it Why the goal is never to eliminate emotions, it's to build your capacity to stay steady while they move through you _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. | 4/16/26 | ![]() The Stories We Tell About Ourselves (And How They Shape Your Life) | There's a story running in the background of your mind right now. You might not even know it's there. It's not the version of yourself you introduce at a dinner party or describe to a new colleague. It's the quieter one. The one that shows up when something goes wrong, when pressure hits, when conflict arrives. I'm not good at this. I always end up being the responsible one. When stress hits, I fall apart. In this episode, I take you behind the scenes of your cognitive structure to look at something most people never examine: the identity narratives we carry about ourselves and how those narratives shape everything. Not just how you feel. How you relate. How you respond under pressure. How you navigate your closest relationships. How you move through your entire life. And I'll share something personal: the self story that came out of the hardest season of my life, and how it became one of the greatest gifts I've ever given myself. Inside this conversation, I walk you through: What identity narratives are and why they're different from individual thoughts Where self stories actually originate (family of origin, repeated feedback, and emotionally significant moments) How your mind filters reality to keep confirming the story it already believes Why reframing doesn't mean inventing a new identity — and what it actually means The cognitive skill we use inside the Cognitive Freedom Method™ to begin shifting these patterns __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. | 4/9/26 | ![]() Urges, Avoidance, and the Hidden Drivers of Our Reactions | Have you ever done something in a moment of pressure and thought — why did I just do that? Checked your phone compulsively. Avoided a conversation you knew you needed to have. Reacted in a way that didn't reflect who you want to be. Most of the time, those behaviors aren't random. They're driven by two very powerful internal forces: craving and avoidance. Craving pulls us toward what feels comfortable or pleasurable. Avoidance pushes us away from what feels uncomfortable or uncertain. And together, they quietly run a huge portion of our daily decisions without us even noticing. In this episode, we go deeper into how the mind actually works, specifically the role that urges play in keeping us stuck in patterns we're trying to change. Inside this conversation, I walk you through: What craving and avoidance are and how they drive most of our behaviors Why urges feel urgent and permanent, even when they're neither The urge wave concept taught inside the Cognitive Freedom Method™ and how it works Why most people act at the worst possible moment of an emotional wave What urge surfing is and how to use it as a practical skill Why the goal is never suppression, but building the capacity to choose How learning to sit with an urge builds the internal architecture of real confidence and self trust When you stop reacting automatically to every urge, something shifts. You create space. You build trust in yourself. And you begin to experience what cognitive freedom actually feels like in practice. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. | 4/2/26 | ![]() Sticky Thoughts: Why Certain Thoughts Take Hold Of The Mind | Some thoughts pass through your mind and disappear quickly. But some thoughts don't. They linger. They repeat. They feel convincing. They feel like the truth. And no matter how many times you try to move past them, they seem to pull you back in. In this episode, we're talking about what we call sticky thoughts. These are the thoughts the mind becomes attached to. The ones that feel heavy, personal, and hard to let go of. When the mind fuses with a thought, it stops feeling like a thought and starts feeling like reality. And when that happens, that thought begins to shape your emotions, your behavior, and the choices you make. Inside this episode, I walk you through: What sticky thoughts are and why some thoughts grip the mind more than others What it means for the mind to become fused with a thought Why sticky thoughts often attach to themes like self worth, success, relationships, or safety How repetition and emotional charge make certain thoughts feel true Why sticky thoughts are not defined by their content, but by your relationship to them How learning to see a thought as a thought creates space and choice Why the goal is not to get rid of sticky thoughts, but to change how you relate to them When you learn to step back and observe a thought instead of automatically believing it, something important happens. You create space. And in that space, you regain choice. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. | 3/26/26 | ![]() Why the Mind Misreads Reality: Understanding Cognitive Distortions | We can have two people experience the same event and have two completely different experiences. Person A loses their job and spirals into fear and overwhelm. Person B loses the same job and somehow approaches it with calm, clarity, and groundedness, finding opportunity in hardship. So what's the difference? How that person interprets the event. Your mind is not a neutral observer of reality. It is a meaning-making system, constantly filtering every experience through your past, your beliefs, your assumptions, and your emotional state. And when that filter is untrained, it almost always leads you somewhere inaccurate. This is episode two of Inside the Cognitive Freedom Method™, and today we go one layer deeper. Inside this episode, I walk you through: Why two people can experience the exact same event and interpret it completely differently The four categories your mind uses to make meaning of everything that happens to you Why events don't create your emotions directly, and what actually does What cognitive distortions are and why they are quietly running your reactions Six of the most common distorted thinking patterns, including catastrophizing, mind reading, and fortune telling Why your brain does this, and how understanding it is the first step to changing it How identifying a distortion creates distance from it, and why that distance gives you choice _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. | 3/19/26 | ![]() Seeing Your Thoughts Clearly: The First Skill in Cognitive Freedom | Here's something worth sitting with. Right now, your mind is generating somewhere between 60,000-80,000 thoughts today. Over 80% of them are negative. And over 98% of them are simply recycled from the day before. Not because something is wrong with you. Because this is how an untrained mind operates. And most of those thoughts? They're running completely in the background. Unnoticed. Like hold music you've stopped hearing, except this music is quietly dictating your emotions, your reactions, and the direction of your life. This episode kicks off a brand new series: Inside the Cognitive Freedom Method™. And we're starting exactly where transformation has to start. With your thoughts. Inside this episode, I walk you through the very first skill in the Cognitive Freedom Method™, and why everything else depends on it. Why your thoughts feel true even when they aren't How repetition creates the illusion of truth in the untrained mind Why automatic thoughts drive your emotional reactions before you even realize it The ripple effect between event, thought, emotion, and behavior What thought monitoring actually is and why it slows everything down in the best possible way Why the goal is never to eliminate negative thoughts (and what to do __________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Shyamala Kiru is a former psychotherapist of 20 years and the founder of Kiru Psychotherapy Clinic and the Cognitive Freedom Method™. When the relationship felt more secure. When work calmed down. When life stopped being so hard. This episode is for you. Because here's what I've come to understand after almost five decades of living and over two decades of this work: Freedom doesn't live out there. It lives in the mind. And if the mind isn't free, nothing else truly is. Not your relationships. Not your self-concept. Not how you show up in the world. This episode is deeply personal for me. | 3/5/26 | ![]() The Knowing-Doing Gap: Why You Still React Even When You Know Better | If you've ever walked away from a hard moment thinking I knew better, why did I still react that way… this episode is for you. Because the truth is, most of us don't struggle because we don't know what to do. We struggle because in the moments that matter most, when pressure hits, when we're triggered, when the stakes are high, we can't access what we know. And that gap between knowing and doing? That's not a character flaw. That's conditioning. In this episode, I unpack why your skills and awareness seem to disappear under pressure, and what it actually takes to change that. Insight tells you what is happening Awareness helps you name the pattern But neither one can override a nervous system that's wired to protect you When pressure hits, you don't default to what you understand. You default to what you've been conditioned to do. That's the difference. And it's an important one. Inside this conversation, I walk you through: Why willpower will never override nervous system activation What the knowing-doing gap actually is and why it keeps you stuck Why your skills vanish the moment life gets hard What real transformation requires beyond awareness and insight How stability under pressure can be trained and why that changes everything LISTEN ON SPOTIFY LISTEN ON APPLE PODCASTS This is not about starting over. | 2/19/26 | ![]() Why Insight Isn't Enough to Change Your Patterns | If you've done therapy, read the books, listened to the podcasts and still find yourself reacting the same way under pressure…this episode is for you. Today I'm beginning a new mini-series that feels like a return home. For years, the foundation of my work was the mind. Understanding it. Working with it. Training it. Rewiring it. Over time, my teaching expanded into relationships, emotional intelligence, energetics, and embodiment. And yet, in this season of my life, navigating stress, transition, love and growth, I find myself returning to the same place. Inside the mind. In this episode, I unpack why insight alone was never meant to be enough to help you embody meaningful change (right down to the level of your patterns). Insight gives you understanding. It helps you name what's happening. It can even feel like relief when the light bulb goes on. These are all good things. But your patterns are not stored in your understanding or comprehension. Your patterns are stored in your nervous system. They're stored in the habits you repeat. In what your mind and body have practiced over the years. In the automatic way you respond when pressure hits. And when pressure hits, you don't default to what you understand. You default to what you're conditioned to do. That's the difference. Conditioning happens slowly, experience by experience, over a lifetime. And when pressure hits, conditioning wins. Inside this conversation, I walk you through: Why insight feels powerful but doesn't stabilize your reactions Where patterns actually live Why you lose access to your awareness when you're triggered What real transformation requires beyond the "light bulb moment" How to begin working with your mind in a concrete, structured way LISTEN ON SPOTIFY LISTEN ON APPLE PODCASTS This is not about starting over, it's about coming home to yourself with more depth and greater understanding. | 2/12/26 | ![]() The AI Therapist Era: Why Advice Alone Isn't Enough | My daughter called me the other night via FaceTime. It was all about a boy, a dilemma, and a conversation she'd had... with ChatGPT. She read us the entire transcript. Word for word. The advice was thoughtful. Structured. Strangely familiar. Because it echoed the very guidance I've given her for years. From my book. From our conversations. From my work. And still, to her, ChatGPT felt clearer. More helpful. More precise. That moment stayed with me. Not because the advice was wrong, it wasn't. But because it revealed something deeper about where we're sourcing our wisdom, and why so many are turning toward AI to meet emotional needs that (I believe, in my decades of experience) requires something far more human. In this episode, I unpack that moment, and the larger shift it signals for all of us. We explore: Why AI is becoming a source of emotional support What well-worded advice can't replace The gap between resonance and true relationship safety What gets lost when guidance isn't rooted in lived experience And why embodiment, not information, is the portal to real change This isn't about resisting innovation. | 11/6/25 | ![]() The Precipice: Part 2 - Rewiring the Capacity to Hold More | Last week, we named the moment. The one every powerful woman eventually meets — where the life she's built begins to exceed the nervous system she built it on. We called it The Precipice. And if you're here, you know it intimately. But naming it is only the beginning. Today, in Part 2, we begin the real work: Rewiring the capacity to hold more. Because here's the truth: You cannot expand from a system wired for survival. If your emotional architecture was built on protection — perfectionism, control, over-responsibility — you will always associate more with risk. This episode is for the woman who already has enough to manage — and still desires more. Not more to do. But more freedom. More ease. More her. Inside this conversation, we explore: Why calm often feels unsafe for high-functioning women How your system confuses expansion with threat What actually needs to change (hint: it's not your mindset) How to begin the rewiring process The three pillars of emotional authority that form the foundation of true capacity You'll also hear real client stories — women who went from burnout to anchored expansion. And I'll share my own precipice moment — the one that made emotional mastery non-negotiable in my life. LISTEN ON SPOTIFY LISTEN ON APPLE PODCASTS And if this is the season you're in — The Precipice Workshop is where we take it deeper. It's where I coach you in real-time through the rewiring process. This is real-time coaching, rooted in emotional intelligence, leadership psychology, nervous system science (and the realities of real life). | 10/30/25 | ![]() The Precipice: Part 1 - The Moment Before Everything Shifts | You are the one who holds it all. The career. The family. The relationship. The emotions no one else knows how to name. The expectations no one else is carrying. You've built a beautiful life. And still — you've hit your edge. There is no more room in your day. No more space for "one more thing". No more capacity to simply push through. But life doesn't seem to care. It keeps asking for more. And you don't know how to hold it without losing yourself. If this is you — today's podcast is the conversation you didn't know you needed. I call it The Precipice — the moment where expansion and exhaustion collide. The invisible ceiling that so many high-functioning women quietly live under. Inside this episode, I walk you through: What it means to truly hit a capacity threshold Why your nervous system sees growth as a threat How "self-sabotage" is often just self-protection Why mindset alone can't carry you through this moment What it actually takes to hold more — without breaking This is not about doing more. This is about becoming the woman who can hold more, with less cost. | 10/23/25 | ![]() Becoming The Emotionally Intelligent Woman | There comes a point for most of the women I work with where chasing "better" isn't what she wants anymore. She's done with that. At this point in her life, what she truly desires is to feel good in her own skin. She wants to move through her days with calm, clarity, and a deep sense of sovereignty. She craves success on her own terms. Freedom of choice. She wants to spend time with her kids — and actually be present. To sit across from her partner and enjoy the connection again. To lead in her work with certainty, not second-guessing. She wants to create the life she knows is possible — without needing to hustle her way there. This is what becomes available when emotional intelligence is no longer a concept, but a way of being. In this week's podcast episode, I'm guiding you into the identity of the emotionally intelligent woman — and what happens when she leads your life instead of your patterns taking the lead. Inside this episode, we explore: The 3 default patterns even self-aware women fall into (and how to shift them) Why emotional mastery is the gateway to true self-leadership How EQ (Emotional Intelligence) impacts not just your inner world — but your partnerships, parenting, and leadership What becomes possible when you live from alignment instead of reactivity This is the foundation for having it all — not just the career, the love, the peace, the impact…but the capacity to enjoy them. | 10/16/25 | ![]() The Hidden Patterns that Keep You Stuck | You know that moment…the conversation ends, and a wave of shame hits your chest. You replay what you said. How your voice sharpened. How you shut down, gave in, or lashed out. And then the thought comes: "I thought I was past this." Not because you haven't done enough. But because it's confusing when insight doesn't translate into change. This week on the podcast, I'm taking you into the real reason you're still reacting in ways that don't feel aligned — even though you're self-aware. These aren't character flaws. They're protective strategies — coded into your nervous system long ago. They once helped you survive. Now? They're keeping you stuck. Inside this episode, I walk you through: Why emotional reactivity is not a mindset problem — and what it actually signals The 3 hidden protective patterns women default to when emotions run high Subtle signs you're stuck in the reactive, avoidant, or appeasement pattern (even if you look calm on the outside) What creates real change — beyond mindset, journaling, or communication techniques FIND THE PODCAST ON SPOTIFY FIND THE PODCAST ON APPLE PODCASTS This isn't about fixing yourself. | 10/9/25 | ![]() Why Emotional Management Fails - And Why Emotional Mastery Is the Real Game-Changer | There's a deeply ingrained belief we've all been taught: you just need to manage your emotions better. Take a breath. Count to ten. Reframe the thought. Those tools aren't wrong—but they're reactive. They keep you in a cycle of suppression, avoidance, and frustration. And here's the truth: emotional management doesn't change your wiring. It doesn't touch the patterns that keep getting triggered in the first place. In this week's podcast episode, I'm unpacking why management fails—and why mastery is the true game changer, especially for high-achieving women. Inside, you'll hear: The hidden costs of relying on suppression, avoidance, and quick fixes Why management never touches the root of your emotional wiring What emotional mastery really means, and how it rewires your system at a foundational level The shift that allows you to meet life from calm clarity, rather than reactivity This is about more than coping. | 10/2/25 | ![]() The Emotional Reset | There are two foundations that shape every experience we have in life. The quality of our mind. The quality of our relationships. Everything flows from there. And yet—so often, when these two are misaligned, we reach for surface-level fixes: another mindset hack, another communication tool, another attempt at "trying harder." But what if the issue isn't lack of effort… It's that we're trying to build on a foundation that's not emotionally sound? In this episode, I'm inviting you into the deeper reset. One that doesn't just help you manage your thoughts and emotions—but rewires the very paradigms that are shaping them. Inside, I walk you through: The two inner pillars that determine your fulfillment (and what happens when they're shaky) Why success can feel hollow when your internal world is out of alignment The real reason mindset work and relationship tools often fall short How to access the kind of clarity and connection that feels like coming home to yourself This is a powerful invitation—not into more doing, but into a new way of being. | 10/24/24 | ![]() Why I Stopped Chasing Success + Started Seeking Fulfilment | Success and Fulfillment are NOT the same thing. Success is based on external circumstances. When we place emphasis on creating success vs. feeling fulfilled, we are giving our power away to the external. Leading your life from a place of deep fulfillment is what opens the door to endless possibilities. It becomes a driving and magnetic force that will call forward the life of your dreams…if you know how to connect with and hold onto it. When you lead your life and make your choices from a place of deep fulfillment…your potential becomes limitless. But in order to step into that energy and hold onto it no matter what the circumstance may be, we must first learn to connect to our soul. We must let go of what others expect us to be and step into who we truly are on a soul level. When you learn to lead from this place, you become an unstoppable force. | 4/11/24 | ![]() Navigating Self Respect + Sensual Expression as a Professional Woman | My podcast is BACK and it has a new name and a new vibe. Welcome to The Dr. Shyamala Show. With over 2 decades of expertise in advanced mindset, communication, relationship + leadership skills, I offer mentorship exclusively for high-impact women who are ready to step fully into their power. Inside this podcast, we share mindset, communication, relationship + leadership strategies for high impact women who are ready to create the life of their dreams. Today is the first episode back and I'm talking about SELF-RESPECT - what it really is and what it is NOT. The respect that you have for yourself, the way that you see yourself, the beliefs that you hold about yourself, the energy that you hold, it has nothing to do with what we wear. I believe that one of the most important aspects of respecting myself, holding an energy of self respect, holding an energy of I value myself, is expressed through my standards and my boundaries. STANDARDS How do people get to access you? What level of access do people have to you? How do people engage with you? How do people interact with you? What does all of that look like? These are your standards. BOUNDARIES What are the guidelines that govern your relationships? How do you move through your relationships? How do you navigate your relationships? What do you do when someone treats you, speaks to you, engages with you in a way that does not feel good to you? These are your boundaries. Then there is sensual expression. How do we find balance in the two? Sensuality, for me, is a deep embodiment of how we experience ourselves in our femininity. In our feminine essence, in our feminine energy, in our feminine power. It's a deep embodiment of how we experience ourselves. And so this is why the self respect piece is so important. Are you ready to examine your level of self-respect and how to truly embody it? Grab your head phones and let's dive in! Where to Connect: WEBSITE: https://shyamalakiru.com FREE MASTERCLASS: DUALITY - https://drshyam.myflodesk.com/duality | — | ||||||

My first exposure to this system was through an online influencer which led me to consume the system in a highly popularized (and watered down) way. I share from my Personal View, what it was like for me to realize that what I had been sold was not the HD system in its entirety, but a modified version. For me, I often have to work through feelings of guilt around it, especially when it comes to the decisions I have to make within my business. Many of us are asked to make quick decisions on a daily basis, and the truth is that MOST of the Authorities (according to Human Design) are simply NOT designed to make fast decisions. Because of this, feelings of shame and fear come up due to conditioning. Inside today's podcast episode we're exploring these feelings around decision making, plus how you can use your Human Design to understand your own process. This conversation is about my personal process of decision making as an Emotional Authority Much of what I share can be applied to the other Authorities that require a longer process to make decisions, such as; Ego Authorities Self Projected Authorities Environmental Authorities Lunar Authorities I touch on why a Splenic or Sacral Authority is designed to make decisions in the moment I share how this has affected how I show up in business and my offers If you want to deepen this conversation with me on a personal level, you can invite my guidance by finding me at the following places: The EQ Code website: theeqcode.com Connect with me on Instagram: @iam.drshyam **Please note that the programs mentioned in this episode may not be offered currently | — | ||||||
