Good morning, this is your surf zone forecast for West Central and Southwest Florida, brought to you by the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay. Whether you're planning a beach day or just curious about conditions, here's what Mother Nature has in store. Let's start with the big picture today. Across all our coastal zones from Cedar Key down to Fort Myers Beach, we're looking at extremely calm surf conditions. We're talking one foot or less across the board, which means swimmers and waders will have plenty of room to play without worrying about rough waters. The rip current risk is low everywhere, though as always, stay cautious around groins, jetties, reefs, and piers where stronger currents can develop unexpectedly. Speaking of safety, if you're heading to the beach today, slather on that sunscreen. The ultraviolet index is very high, which means sun protection isn't optional. Pair that with mostly sunny skies, and you've got perfect conditions for a beautiful day at the shore, as long as you're prepared for serious sun exposure.
