| 10/25/24 | ![]() Dollar Dole Δοῦλος (Season 3, Episode 7) | Season 3, Episode 7: Dollar Dole Δοῦλος This episode considers the dollar and its effect upon us as a debt instrument. There is something fundamentally flawed with our financial system which has led to economic booms and busts of intensifying magnitude over the last 50 years. While this podcast will not address the technical aspects of why this has been the case, many other insightful thinkers have. Links to their work is included in the description and at the bottom of the post. Our purpose at present is to consider the distinction between money and currency and the effect of debased money or inflationary currency on the common good and how such a financial system resists the cultivation of genuine virtue. As with our previous explorations, this is certainly another episode that Big Lexi, the lexicography cartel does not want you to hear nor enjoy. | 9/28/24 | ![]() Comedy (Season 3, Episode 6) | Season 3, Episode 6: Comedy This episode considers the Hellenic origin of the word “Comedy” and considers both the analysis of Aristotle and the witness of John’s Gospel. The origin of the episode was my 40-page undergraduate thesis which has now been consolidated to less than 1,000 words. Unlike that thesis, the ensuing analysis does consider more the non-extant Greek comedies, which despite their no longer existing does provide a fuller lens with which to ponder St. John the Evangelist’s diction and account of Jesus’ ministry. On the whole, this is certainly another episode that Big Lexi, the lexicography cartel does not want you to hear nor enjoy. It is another episode that Big Lexi, the lexicography cartel does not want you to hear nor enjoy. For those listening who did not have deep reflection on immolation at the top of their proverbial bucket list, there is likely space in the margins for this addition. | 8/17/24 | ![]() Artificial Intelligence (Season 3, Episode 3) | Season 3, Episode 3: Artificial Intelligence This episode is on so-called artificial intelligence, a topic which is all the rage and an argument which will likely enrage. For those of us, including myself, who have spent their adulthood dismissing the Luddites who railed against the automation of the textile industry, it remains a journey of the intellect and will to consider more deeply the foundation of their anger and the defense of their humanity. In short, I hope that this episode haunts in you in the way that St. Augustine was haunted by the wisdom of St. Ambrose and the Life of St. Anthony. The BetterPears Podcast is at the service of the reflective life for it is through reflecting that we resolve to change. If you enjoy this production, I also ask that you like the episode, subscribe to the podcast if you have not already, and let us know in the comments. This simple task truly helps us reach a wider audience. To view all the podcast episodes arranged by season, episode number, and topic, head over to BetterPears.com/schedule. Each episode on the list is hyperlinked to assist you with sharing a particular insight with friends and family. In addition to The BetterPears Podcast, BetterPears also presents The Confederal Reserve our interview series on Rumble.and YouTube. which connects old friends over even older classical works that have shaped the life of each episode’s guest. They are conversations long overdue and designed to model substantive conversations about the great ideas that you too can have with formerly close friends and family who may have become distant since the last election cycle. Visit our video channels through the links in the description. Finally, The BetterPears Podcast is offered free through the wonder of the internet but made possible through the continued contributions of our listener audience. In March, we announced our new crowdfunding program, BetterPears Leaves. The program is simple and some might say elegant in design. Contribute $12 or more each month to BetterPears and receive a thank you Goldback in the mail. It is like a Patreon but with fractional, physical gold instead of BTS and blooper reels. If you have been listening to The BetterPears Podcast or The Confederal Reserve for some time and recognize that the ideas shared stand out from other offering of the internet, are worth sharing, and are worthy of your support, this community driven contribution program is for you. As an additional thank you to our contributors, each month from July to December 2024, one lucky supporter will receive a free BetterPears mug of his or her choice from the BetterPears Market in addition to the monthly Goldback. | 8/3/24 | ![]() Gravy Gravity (Season 3, Episode 2) | Season 3, Episode 2: Gravy Gravity This episode is on gravy, gravity, and glory. The purpose of the episode, like all those of the podcast, is to suggest deeper meanings for the words we employ to express reality each day.
