Deborah Netolicky talks with Associate Professor Paul Kidson about leadership in schools that is hopeful, sustainable and personalised. Paul leads Educational Leadership postgraduate courses at the Australian Catholic University. He is one of the researchers on Australia’s largest and longest running principal wellbeing research project, the Australian Principal Occupational Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Survey, as well as a frequent media commentator on educational matters. He has co-designed several aspiring principals and middle leadership programs in both the government and non-government sectors. Prior to his academic career, he was a school principal for over 11 years. In addition to his academic qualifications and experience, he is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Institute for Managers and Leaders, and is currently President of the NSW Branch, and National Board member, of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders. Erica is an internationally recognised scholar of pedagogy and creativity, whose career spans more than forty years. Moving from classroom teaching to senior academic roles in Australia and Singapore, Erica is known for her work on innovation, futures of work, and ‘low threat, high challenge’ approaches to learning. She has led major research programs, including the Creative Workforce 2.0 initiative, and is the author of The Creative Workforce. Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Fiona Longmuir. Fiona is a Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. She is also co-leader of the Education Workforce for the Future Research Impact Lab. Her most recent projects have focused on examining working conditions for educators. In other research Fiona has investigated interactions of school and system leadership with student engagement and agency; the emotional labour of school leadership; leading schools through crises; and, leading for social cohesion and social justice. She publishes on topics of leading schools in complex contexts, teachers working conditions and teacher retention, accountability, policy enactment and student agency in school change. Fiona teaches in the Master of Educational Leadership in units focused on social justice and leading educational change and contributes to leadership programs for international school and system leaders. She previously worked for over 15 years for the Victorian Department of Education and Training as a primary school teacher, curriculum and school leader, and leader of school networks. Fiona is a Victorian Fellow of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders. Deborah Netolicky talks with Professor Rachel Lofthouse about mentoring and coaching in education. Rachel is Professor of Teacher Education in the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University, and the Director of CollectiveED: The Centre for Mentoring, Coaching and Professional Learning. She has been an educator for more than 30 years, including as a Geography teacher, a teacher educator, and a researcher. Her research focuses on professional learning, especially how teachers learn and how they can be supported to put that learning into practice. Rachel works with student teachers and their school-based mentors, teacher coaches, postgraduate students and school leaders as well as a range of educational practitioners, including those interested in community curriculum development and professional coaching for speech and language support in multicultural early years and primary settings. She encourages professionals to find practices through which they can build their workplace expertise while developing critical reflection and their ability to contribute to, and draw productively on, the knowledge base for teaching and learning. Rachel has published in peer-reviewed journals on the subjects of coaching and mentoring, the innovative use of video to support practice development, practitioner enquiry and professional learning.
