The Hysteria Continues

Danielle Breton (Margot Kidder) is a beautiful young model, the kind of girl you meet only in your dreams. But this dream turns into a nightmare when young reporter Grace Collier (Jennifer Salt) witnesses a brutal murder in Danielle's apartment. Danielle has a secret: she lives half a life, and the other half is lived by her formerly-conjoined, murderous sister Dominique. One sister is lovely, gentle, and kind - the other is quite mad, and you never know which one you're holding in your arms. We're joined by author, director (1991's Guilty As Charged and 2001's Elvira's Haunted Hills, among others), and screenwriter Sam Irvin for a look at the 1972 psycho-thriller, Sisters, with Sam's treasured memories of working with director Brian De Palma on The Fury (1978), Home Movies (1979), and Dressed To Kill (1980) acting as a retrospective backdrop on the famed director. This 90+ minute special episode bypasses our usual shtick (no Joke Of The Week or Recently Seen) for a candid interview (we'll return to our regular format on the next episode), with fascinating insights into the wide world of Brian De Palma, our general thoughts on Sisters, and more.

Jack's Back in The Ripper (1985)! With his spirit now resurrected by a mafioso crackerjack ring, Jack The Ripper goes on a gory killing spree, setting his sights on students, faculty, and fringe hangers-on of a film school studying true crime in cinema - entrails will spill and mustaches will be twirled! We discuss Tom Savini's infamous "starring" role, whether or not this was shot on video (16mm?), ring this/ring that, and much, much more! Clarification: it was shot on video!

Adrien Brody puts his nose to the grindstone as a detective out to stop a yellow-skinned, mad killer who is abducting females by way of his taxi in Dario Argento's Giallo from 2009, featuring Brody in a dual role and... Not much else according to at least three of us. We discuss the film's lack of signature Argento-isms, whether or not it is a giallo, Adrien Brody's court case against the producers, and much more! Also, the ghost of Skype has infiltrated our new recording digs, making completion of the episode about as difficult as sitting through this movie!

Robert Hiltzik returns to camp (literally?) with his legacy sequel to the OG Sleepaway Camp (1983) with 2008's (shot in 2003) Return To Sleepaway Camp, featuring a handful of returning characters mixing it up with a new generation of snotty campers in a tale of bullies - and the bullied - getting offed at summer camp by a mysterious (ha) psychopath. We discuss the human manifestation of sewage, Alan (the film's inexplicable lead character), what type of film Hiltzik was trying to make, the film's slew of over the top murders, and of course the film's best kept secret: the identity of the killer, so spoilers aplenty!

One of our shortest shows ever, and we're working at 75% capacity and doing a bit of time travel recording for 1978's Big Sleazy slasher, Mardi Gras Massacre, with a killer sacrificing "evil" women to an Aztec God. If you've ever wanted to see a movie where Chinese food sets the wheels of would-be justice in motion, this is your flick.
