About this episode

Margie McCumstie discusses intersex rights and her experiences at the UN's Commission on the Status of Women.

Paul and Cody welcome Margie McCumstie to this episode of The I in Us. Margie is the InterAction for Health and Human Rights Training and Communications Coordinator in Australia. They highlight the inaugural intersex women and non-binary retreat, plus her whirlwind, ten-day trip to New York. Margie participated in Outright International’s Advocacy Week off-site events. These events are associated with the Seventieth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The event featured a session on the rights of intersex people, particularly women. CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body which exclusively promotes gender equality and the empowerment of women. Outright International invited Margie to attend this event which testifies the place Australia and InterAction holds internationally in respect to intersex rights. In conclusion, Margie shared, “It was such an honour to participate in the first-ever intersex side-event inside the UN Headquarters in New York as part of 70th Commission on the Status of Women.” Enjoy listening to this great episode..
