| 4/16/25 | ![]() Mickey 17 Review: Can There Be A Thing As Too *Much* Social Commentary? | On this week's The Legendary Ladies Podcast, Amy and Morgan eagerly sat down to watch Bong Joon Ho's film, Mickey 17. But...did they just as eagerly sit down to discuss it? Unfortunately, that wasn't necessarily the case as the hosts work to break down why Mickey 17 didn't just do it for them. They discussed the overwhelming amount of social commentary -- not in its essential nature, or even its essence -- but in the sheer number of bullet points. While it fits the commentary on a world (*cough* currently *cough*) oversaturated with social and political challenges, when introduced congruently with the new and unique technology that is the cornerstone of Mickey 17's titular plot point, did the bloated nature of the film's various storylines detract from the one we might have been most interested in? And, without getting too far ahead of ourselves, can we ask...what was Kai there for? No, seriously, we're asking. All in all, the hosts sit down for a rather unexpectedly productive discussion as they try to figure out if Robert Pattinson's superb acting was enough to keep their interest during the [over] 2 hour film. | 3/7/25 | ![]() PilotPod: Suits LA - We Watched It So You Don't Have To | Amy and Morgan are alone this episode while Kat takes the week off…and to be honest, she probably got the better part of the deal. Why? Because she didn't have to watch the Suits LA premiere (we're loath to call it a pilot, as it hardly resembles one). On this duo episode, the hosts break down and analyze the first episode of the new series that comes with the Suits name, but bears little resemblance to the clever and classy writing of the original series. Amy and Morgan chat about how difficult it was to follow along on the bloated episode, whether or not the flashbacks served any purpose, and try to understand why they felt absolutely nothing for the characters. Should you watch Suits LA? You probably don't really need to. But if you have, and feel like commiserating - or if you haven't, and you just want to see our hosts disappointed (we're not mad, just disappointed), tune in! What did you think of the episode? | 12/17/24 | ![]() Is Wicked the Greatest Musical Adaptation of All Time? | It's been three weeks…and we still CAN'T STOP SINGING WICKED. So, for the grand finale of their 2024 season, the Legendary Ladies get together to chat about the insanely popular Wicked movie. In this mega episode, Amy, Kat, and Morgan share their individual experiences with Wicked before the film, chat about how the film takes the stage musical above and beyond, discuss the differences between the relationship of Galinda and Elphaba on stage vs on screen, and share their thoughts on casting and the marketing blitz around the film. Morgan and Kat also get surprised with Amy asks for them to make a last minute top 5 from the film….and then Amy surprises them again by NOT picking one you're sure she would have. Enjoy the episode? | 9/8/24 | ![]() Pilot Pod: Why is Emily in Paris So Easy to Watch? | Hashtag #FINALLY! Amy and Morgan are absolutely thrilled to finally have the chance to watch the first episode of the hit television show "Emily in Paris." On the heels of the season 4 release of the popular Netflix show, the hosts take this PilotPod to dive into what makes Emily in Paris so…entertaining and watchable, despite its general predictability and basic plot. Is it the fashion? The set (it is PARIS after all)? The good-looking roommate? Or, as the hosts discuss, is there just something refreshing and delightful about a half-hour show that is light, easy to follow, and relaxing? All this and more on this week's episode! | 7/18/24 | ![]() My Lady Jane Review: Horse Girlies Unite | Horse girlies, history girlies, and booktok girlies - this one is for you. On this week's The Legendary Ladies Podcast duo episode, Amy and Morgan are over the moon to discuss the [entire] Amazon Prime Video Series "My Lady Jane", which it turns out, was actually written exclusively for the hosts. Not really, but you get the picture. The hosts rave over the fun nature of alter-history (and what they got right vs what they artfully changed), chat about the steamy chemistry between the two leads, and make predictions about season 2. They also find themselves reminiscing about their old stomping grounds, The Legends of Tomorrow, and how My Lady Jane seems to follow the same thematic vein - it's a show that doesn't take itself so seriously, and manages to find the heart and soul in a way that stays with the viewers long after they've gotten over the fact that the main character can turn into a literal horse. | 6/10/24 | ![]() "Am I Okay" on HBO Max: A Queer Journey That Connects With Every Millenial (Including Our Hosts) | This week, the Legendary Ladies watch "Am I Okay?", starring Dakota Johnson, which has finally made its way onto HBO Max, despite having made the film circuits back in 2022. The first film in a while that has won over all three hosts, Amy, Kat, and Morgan chat about what makes this film so relatable. While at its surface level, it sells as 'just' a story about a queer coming out journey, the movie brings to light a number of the challenges and stories that Millenials face. It's a movie about the crisis of feeling "stuck" in your early thirties, about the trauma of a deep friendship breakup, and how success looks different for everyone. The film goes a step further and brings a clearly personal, and deeply affecting, story about discovering your sexuality later in life to create a movie that our hosts would watch again and again. ~~~~ Support Kat, Morgan, and Amy by subscribing to their Patreon to get exclusive access to after-show chats, extra episodes, deleted scenes and ways to join in live on the show! | 5/10/24 | ![]() Dua Lipa Radical Optimism - Can Dance Music Be Thoughtful? | On this week's episode of The Legendary Ladies Podcast - it's a Duo Dua Lipa episode! Which makes it sounds like we have Dua Lipa on the podcast…which we don't. But Amy and Kat did review her newest album, Radical Optimism. And we were so excited to chat about a clean, crisp album that was an easy listen filled with earworms, a lighter version of romantic storytelling, and an album that succeeds in it's task to share some radical optimism (especially in a popular music world filled with what seems to be an overwhelming amount of reactionary introspection). We have our top 5 - but listeners are encouraged to write in and help Amy figure out which of her top 3 go in what order! | 4/26/24 | ![]() Is Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department A Good Album? | The Legendary Ladies are here with their much anticipated Taylor Swift album review! Amy, Kat, and Morgan record a nearly 2 hour episode sharing their thoughts on The Tortured Poets Department, discussing the album in general during the first half and breaking down their top 5 in the second. Not only do they share their favorite thoughts, but they dive deep into some of their favorite parts of the album, as well as some critiques, including whether or not the album was oversaturated in its own style. They also muse if the "sameness" that strikes its way through the album is a natural part of the poetry theme of the album, and debate if there are enough clues to suggest that this might be the end of an era. | 4/19/24 | ![]() Did Quiet on Set Need Another Episode? | The Legendary Ladies sit down this week to discuss the viral and shocking "Quiet on Set" docu-series. Amy, Kat, and Morgan wade into the dark and murky waters of those early days at Nickelodeon, where The Amanda Show and iCarly were household jams for two of the hosts. They discuss their shock at the revelations of the docuseries, applaud the investigative journalism at the core of the episodes, and share their passionate thoughts about protecting children in the entertainment industry. Amy, Kat, and Morgan listened to the new Beyonce album, Cowboy Carter and ranked their individual top 5 songs from the album. But they went above and beyond with their homework this week. | 3/5/24 | ![]() The Last Airbender Live Action Series - Did The Series Meet Expectations? | Spoiler alert! Amy and Morgan are back this week to discuss the entire first season of the live action Avatar: The Last Airbender. And yes, we watched the whole series. And yes, we're still not sure who this was for. But we did have expectations (even if we may have lowered them a little) - and we were eager to share our thoughts on whether those expectations were met. During the course of this nearly two hour episode, Amy and Morgan break down the characters, the plot, and the other elements that wove their wave into this series. What did we think about Katara's complete lack of growth? Did diving headlong into the deeper connection between Iroh and Zuko do the characters justice? In this PilotPod episode, Legendary Ladies, Amy and Morgan, watch the first episode of Netflix series "Lupin", which incidentally, has nothing to do with werewolves. It's also French. In this hilarious episode, Amy shares her complete confusion over poor wifi vs. dubbing and Morgan shares her history with the show's source material (Arsène Lupin)...as an anime series. On more serious notes, the hosts discuss why this pilot's dual timelines seem to work so well, whether or not there's a market for a single-character centered pilot, and how the feel of a European show changes the way you approach a series.
