| 1/1/22 | ![]() First Steps: How Upright Walking Made Us Human with Dr. Jeremy DeSilva | Welcome again Cave Dwellers and Thank You for joining me on another episode of The Neanderthal Mind. Today we sit down with Jeremy DeSilva. Jeremy, or "Jerry" as he sometimes prefers, is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Dartmouth College. He is a paleoanthropologist, specializing in the locomotion of the first apes and early human ancestors, (hominoids & hominins respectfully). His particular anatomical expertise-- the human foot and ankle-- has contributed to our understanding of the origins and evolution of upright walking in the human lineage. He has studied wild chimpanzees in Western Uganda and early human fossils in Museums throughout Eastern and South Africa. From 1998-2003, Jerry worked as an educator at the Boston Museum of Science and continues to be passionate about science education. He is the author of the 2021 book First Steps: How Upright Walking Made Us Human. Jerry lives in Norwich, VT with his wife Erin and their twins Ben and Josie. Dr. DeSilva has also been involved with some of the more recent, history making discoveries from Rising Star, as well as the Famous footprints of Laetoli. It was an awesome conversation and an unparalleled education for me in Neanderthal Cousins and Early Human Ancestors. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the show. I will see you on the flip side Cave Dwellers.Twitter: @desilva_jerryWeb Site: https://sites.dartmouth.edu/desilva/ | — | ||||||

| 10/9/21 | ![]() You-Evolving with Dr. Hogan Sherrow | Welcome, Welcome, Welcome my Cave Dwellers. Thank You for joining me on this next episode of The Neanderthal Mind. Today we talk with Dr. Hogan Sherrow, and to start, I want to send out A huge THANK YOU!!! to him, for joining me on The Neanderthal Mind Podcast. Here is a little about Dr. Sherrow: Dr. Hogan Sherrow is a Fulbright Scholar and has a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Anthropology from Yale University. He has studied the behavior and ecology of humans and other animals on three different continents, specializing in the evolution of political behavior, tribalism, leadership, and aggression. Some of his recent writings focus on the evolutionary origins of the Texas and Taliban attempts to control women and the existence and danger of the cult of trump. In this episode, Dr. Sherrow and I get into his Business and podcast called You Evolving. Dr. Sherrow addresses, "When scientists talk about the evolutionary reason for a behavior, they are not assigning merit to that behavior, or condoning it, they are simply finding the source of it. It is up to us as individuals and as groups and societies to determine what is morally acceptable and hold individuals to those standards". We also discuss, what Dr. Sherrow thinks is the best trait we inherited from our Neanderthal/Early Human Ancestors, as well as, what his studying of primates, insinuate about male Dominance in relationships, and so much more. I absolutely enjoyed my conversation with Dr. Sherrow, as I know my "Cave Dweller Community" will enjoy as well, and of course, all of Dr. Sherrows’ links will be included in the Show notes. My goodness, episode 18, still a newborn in the podcast world, and the Neanderthal Realm, but we will keep on trucking, and continue to bring you information on our Ancestors, and how they affect our modern existence. In this episode, we sit down with Seth Chagi. Seth, as I am sure, most of my Cave Dwellers know, is the founder of World of Paleoanthropology, it is a Facebook group and a STEM Sci-comm project, which we discuss, to make all news, and research about Human Origins available to the public in a free and accessible way that we would be able to study and understand. As Seth says, “Through this understanding we can search for the answers to our questions surrounding our origins”.The one thing that strikes me, that Seth said, and I quote, “We are all Human, we all came from the same source”. That hits the heart, especially in todays atmosphere. We all need to understand, we are all human, we may have been made to look different on the outside, but we are entirely the same on the inside, where the heart is. As mentioned, we will get into Seth’s journey for Open, free and accessible information We talk about how, and I'm sure you all could agree, we need More education of our Ancestral beginnings in our school systemWe set the story straight on the pronunciation Neanderthal or NeandertalOf course we will discuss Seth's heart project, World of paleoanthropology (Facebook group)We go into, which I like to ask all of my guests this question, what led you to paleoanthropology and the realm of the NeanderthalsSci-Com (science communication)Theories of evolution, again, another question I like to ask my guestsSome new discoveries of Neanderthal ReligionCognitive Revolution during the Pleistocene (2.5 mil-11,700) and Holocene (11,700-present)https://www.facebook.com/worldofpaleoanthropologyhttps://www.instagram.com/world\_of\_paleoanthropology/https://twitter.com/WrldOfPaleoAnth?s=20https://www.linkedin.com/in/sethchagi/https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UCbXoN38kftE2ZKD5L\_fwlqg/videos/upload? | — | ||||||

We touch a little on ECG (electroencephalography), that's basically a tool used by researchers to measure the brain's electrical activity. Toby and I cover the subjects of, neurofeedback, biofeedback, transcranial stimulation, and PMF (Post Electromagnetic Frequencies. I will let Toby explain to the Cave Dweller Community, what all those words mean. We talk about enhancing cognition, nootropics, meditation, parasympathetic and sympathetic. | 1/29/21 | ![]() Revisit of episode one with Joe Lawlor | Well Cave Dwellers, I feel I need to apologize for this episode! It is my first attempt at a solo episode. To my dismay, I feel it is not of a quality episode as I believe my Cave Dwellers deserve, but, it is my first attempt, so, I can only get better from here. In this episode, I recap my very first interview with Joe Lawlor, aka, Neanderthal Joe. I define most of the terms Neanderthal Joe shared with us when He was explaining Flint Knapping. Joe is, what I would call, an expert of the process. Joe gives a history of Flint Knapping, and some of the more common terms used when talking about Flint Knapping and the history of it and our Neanderthal Ancestors. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. It is a lot shorter of an episode than your use to, but it is just a recap of a previous episode, which, you can go back and download to listen to the entire episode, if you have not already. Thank You again Cave Dwellers, for all the support you have given me. I look forward to hearing from my community any time you would like to discuss The Neanderthal Mind, and where we as a community, would like to see the podcast go and grow. Well, until next time Cave Dwellers. | — | ||||||

Serendipity? Maybe. Fate? Possibly. Reality? Obviously, definitely! We go a little deeper into the history of Neanderthals, and the important discoveries that have thrust the Neanderthal life into the lime lite. As always, I like to ask the experts who their influencers are and were, and what knowledge they are indulging on and where from, which we go into. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
