In surfing, one of the best mental reminders I carry with me, especially when surfing waves of consequence, is - “Where the eyes go, I go.” Look down, go down. Look right, go right. Look left, go left. And, of course, when nothing is going right, surf lefts. What applies in one thing applies to all things. Law is law. Our inner eyes can focus or go to sleep. Unaware consciousness is a behavior where the individual is animated like a marionette…a program pulls the strings to impregnate potentiality with ITS will…not yours. Awareness of consciousness creates currency…or, for this example - CAPITAL. Your experiences are of your own doing…your creation. All life, all creation is born from fucking. When True Will penetrates the receptive field of potentiality…the child possesses many predictable characteristics. All is Mind, my fair-weathered friends. And MIND is constantly fucking itself. Will we fuck passionately with focus and presence? Will we sometimes make sweet love and get sweaty and wild other times? Or will we lay flaccid and dull, allowing the program to create a reality like the disconnected screens filled with porn? We can learn a lot about who we are by paying attention to how, where, when, who, and why we fuck. There is a superb surf documentary called “Momentum Generation.” In it, a bunch of surfers that become the greatest surfers on the planet tell their tale of how one of the older guys that hung around with them used to make them drop in on closeout waves when conditions sucked. There is a lot to learn in surfing shitty conditions. There is a lot to learn in navigating the shitty conditions of life. Of course, I do my best to follow multiple surf reports and use everything I have learned about surfing over the past four years to guess what break will produce the highest level of reward each day. But sometimes, despite my best efforts, conditions suck…sometimes after driving over an hour just to “score.” Nine times out of ten, even if the scene looks disappointing…I still paddle out wherever I choose to go. I usually tell myself, “Well, I’m here…I may as well make the best of it. It will still beat sleeping.” And sometimes…quite often actually…after I am out in the “shitty” conditions…things shift…conditions change. A sudden rainstorm might clean up the waves. Or the wind shifts and turns closeouts into peelers. When these things happen, I am often the only one out enjoying the bliss. But by then, I’d already had it all to myself for at least an hour. The dipshits will tell you that knowledge is power. The impotent will tell you that understanding is the key to success. Wisdom comes from lessons resulting from HOW you ACT. Knowledge and understanding can lead you to fertile ground…yet there is no value without the ACT. One of the most challenging things someone can do is have tough conversations when they know there will be hell to pay. Little boys walk on eggshells, and little girls run and hide when it gets too hot in the kitchen. You there! The reader…you know what I’m talking about. How many times have you done it? - kept quiet about the elephant in the room because to address it would mean experiencing immediate discomfort. Very few of us can summon the courage and have the discipline to follow through with a committed relationship with the truth. I’m talking about a quest to know what is true…what is real…what is ACTUAL…at all costs…to forsake all others…to fuck WHAT IS with all the passion and commitment one can muster. If we aren’t committed to the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth…all that’s left is living a lie…and that, my fair-weathered friends, is no life at all. Many of you have been asking me lately if I am still married. No. I found out in January that my marriage had ended. Of course, I went through a lot of sadness and confusion for about six weeks. And as I emerged from the haze, I quickly discovered that life supports me perfectly when I honor it precisely as it unfolds, without being a whiny, little unaccountable bitch. We always have a choice of CHARACTER when interacting with the moment. Choosing to meet each moment with as much dignity and composure as possible has led to a divorce that minimally affected the children and where my ex and I still manage to get along. And so, we have left the Beach Villa that supported us for the past 25 months. I am so fired up to see where this next chapter of life leads my sons and me. So far, it has been nothing short of marvellous. Also, I have resumed offering 1:1 training on competently navigating psyche. These past eight months have tested everything I know about the areas of life we control vs. those in which we have no control. I am honored to proclaim that the principles of the training ring true in the face of the most ardent adversity. Fearlessness does not mean the absence of fear (thank God…since the universe responds most favorably to courage). It simply means to fear LESS. The best way to fear less is to pull yourself together, lively up yourself, and get ON with it. “With what,” you ask? With the task at hand. With each moment exactly as it unfolds. It’s incredible how quickly the fear disappears when we get ON with it…when we are UPLIFTING…first of self, then of perceived others. Fuck that passive-aggressive shit…fuck that avoidance…fuck all the games of back-biting, 1-up, and virtue-signaling. Hit it all head-on…direct and kind. And don’t confuse being nice with being kind for a second. Nice comes from a French root meaning STUPID. The root of KIND is KIN…as in kinship or family (also KING). It should be no surprise that I hear people talking shit or making excuses. Vibrational frequencies are specific. No matter how much work I do, no matter how diligently I guard the gates of Mind…two subtle fears continually seek to penetrate and rule my way of being. The first fear occurs when I compare myself to anything outside of True Will. The antidote is in the poison. Striving to become the greatest version of myself is a welcome challenge…the growth may be uncomfortable, but it isn’t rooted in the type of fear that puts me to sleep and lets programming pull the strings of a lifeless corpse. The second fear results from failure to penetrate this life with all we have to muster or playing Mickey Mouse games of what can I get and what’s the cost? The antidote is in the poison. Will I make passionate love to the moment…leaving her FULL-FILLED? Or will I short-stroke the bitch creating perpetual Mother Hunger? As we FULL-FILL ourselves we can pull ourselves out of the hat and into the superficial as art. Who ART thou? About ten days ago, I was pushing 350 KG on the leg sled, and on the fourth rep, my lower back tightened up something fierce. My lower back was still locked up the next day, so I had my physio come to the villa to work on it. The doctor’s orders were no surfing until it loosens up, no weights, but stay active. I have discovered that relying on a routine (like a pavlovian response) to re-mind me to stick to the game plan is a big trap when the routine gets disrupted. In a nutshell, I fell asleep hard over the past ten days. And when I say “fell asleep,” I’m not talking about going night night. I mean, I fell back into the matrix…the program…the land of the walking dead. When we spend time in the matrix, the opportunity to influence our destiny is gone as soon as it happens. We are either with it as it unfolds or asleep at the wheel. No amount of crying, whining, complaining, wishing, warping, or wobbling reality will allow us to retreat into time and interact in a way that affects what has happened. The sooner we understand this fact, the sooner we can come to terms with the incredible responsibility we each have to Self-Actualize. Separation is an illusion. Spirituality practices, do-gooding intentions, ritualistic expression, prayers, and devotions have nowhere to land when one fails to DANCE. Gotta get those hips and ass moving, my friends! My surfing coach showed me how to do proper pop-ups on a surfboard lying on couch cushions about three and a half years ago. He filmed me and then compared the film to videos of pro surfers popping up on their boards. It was easy to see what changes I needed to make. It ends up that when an athlete repeats a specific athletic movement correctly 10,000 times, they will master the movement and be able to perform it at will without giving any thought to it. Ten thousand pop-ups seemed like such a monumental task, especially at the beginning when I sucked at it. But I did the math and figured that if I just did ten every morning, I would accomplish the goal in about three years. This past week, the waves have been solid, and I’ve been surfing well. Yesterday, I noticed my pop-ups have become smooth and seamless. I’ve completed ten thousand pop-ups. I can’t tell you how many times I didn’t feel like doing my exercises along the way. When we remain in devotion to Will during Divine Rage, the string on the Bow of Sagittarius begins to draw. The more intense the struggle, the more tension on the bow. And then the most remarkable thing happens at what always seems to be the last second. When I am sure that I am at my wit’s end…that a particular moment will be my last-ditch effort to see something through to the end…when I am sure that I am about to give up… I go for it one last time…the Archer can no longer bend the bow any further… And the Arrow of Sagittarius is released. What is a True Muse? The Muse infuses me with passion, drive, and creativity. The Muse makes me want to be the best man I can be. Initially, I found the Muse in the ocean, in the waterfalls, in the forest, on top of mountains, and in the desert. But when I found her within myself, I opened myself up to a whole new universe. Perspective is everything. Not that long ago, many of you remember how mangled my face was after that wipeout at Impossibles. I spent 3 hours in surgery that day. But instead of being upset about the situation, I focused on the beauty of that surgeon’s delicate little fingers as she stitched over 50 stitches into my head. I focused on the beauty of my friend, Sean, who helped me from the ocean to the car and drove me to the hospital. I focused on the beauty of this Island and how it has everything I could desire for my family and me to thrive. And wouldn’t you know it? I was back in the water in a week, and now you can’t even tell I was injured. Seeking beauty and reveling in gratitude is better than a shit-ass attitude every day of the week. I used to think that love was something I felt in my heart. I’ve discovered that love is something I DO. Love, especially Agape Love, is an act of WILL that includes unconditional acceptance, devotion, and faithfulness. Everyone and their dog paddle out to surf in easy conditions. The low cost of entry attracts the masses. The masses are asses. If I want to get lots of practice at surfing, I will find much more open ground when the conditions are shitty, dangerous, or flat. Practicing in poor, dangerous, or flat conditions is the key to up-leveling my performance in perfect conditions (big enough to keep the “other” kooks at bay - meaning I’m a kook to some surfers). The rewards of The Great Work show up during the good times. It is practiced ALL the time…with emphasis during poor, dangerous, or flat conditions. The Dark Night of the Soul brings pain and misery.
