In this solo episode of Visible Kindness, Ed explores one of the most familiar teachings in Scripture and challenges a common modern assumption—that Jesus was teaching us to love ourselves first before we can love others. Drawing from Matthew 22, Luke 10, and the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Ed examines what Jesus said, what He didn't say, and why understanding the difference matters. As a survivor of significant trauma, Ed also shares how shame, guilt, and a distorted self-image affected his understanding of this passage for many years. Through Scripture, he discovered a powerful truth: Perhaps loving ourselves biblically isn't about self-esteem. Perhaps it's about seeing ourselves the way God sees us—adopted, forgiven, redeemed, and loved.
