With the aftermath of the Second World War a new ‘rules-based order’ was pioneered overseen by international organisations such as the UN, the World Bank, the IMF, the International Court of Justice, the EU and the World Health Organisation. They embodied the desire that shared notions of justice, the rule of international law, and the recognition of our interdependence through peaceful trade, would protect humanity from the horror of global war in the future.
