TIDAL FLOODING TALK | Superstorm Sandy reminded the Northeast how vulnerable it is in 2012. Experts called Sandy a rare “once-in-500-years” storm due to its unusual path. But here’s the real risk: other hurricanes could strike every 50 years and cause equal or greater damage today. Historical storms, like the 1821 hurricane, would now trigger $100 billion in damages, thanks to more coastal development and rising seas.
