Cory Bradford-Watts interviews artist, poet, and Swedenborgian Eleanor Schnarr about eighteenth-century scientist and mystic Emanuel Swedenborg’s early explorations of the human brain and breath control and how his findings influenced his later works on spiritual anatomy. As a student of Swedenborgian Studies at the Graduate Theological Union, Eleanor has written several fascinating papers about Swedenborg’s practice of internal breathing and how it compares to other ancient meditative forms such as tantra and yoga. Eleanor draws on her extensive research to explain how Swedenborg used meditative breathing to access the spiritual world and how we can also experience divine consciousness.
