The elderly are often forgotten by family members busy living their own lives. Eventually, they depend more and more on others for help and not just in their activities of daily living, but also in their financial affairs. Ensuring their bills are paid and on time is not only about them having enough money to cover expenses. Very often it is just a matter of memory, and knowing how to navigate the online systems to send in timely payments. As a result, some turn to their health workers for help in the financial space and once they know their financial status, their online passwords, and more, it can become abusive, especially when they know that the family of the elderly does not check in, does not care, or is easily fooled into thinking all is well. Check-in with your elderly. Ensure their finances are not in jeopardy because they are trusting their Health Worker and others to be their Financial Helper too. Go to college. Get a degree. Get a job. Retire at 65. This is the life most of our parents lead and taught us to repeat. In fact, those of us who dared to venture away from this template were thought to be crazy, lazy, or stupid. Resumes are sent out to headhunters, and job sites like Zip Recruiter and Monster are flooded with the desperate seeking a j-o-b. WORK! This is one word that rarely brings a smile to a face. Students would rather play than settle down to work. Employees ache for breaks and the end of the day. Housewives groan at the dishes and dirty laundry. CEOs cringe when their phone rings one more time. This is not always the case of course - but this is a reality for many. Humanity's purpose is to work. For those who ascribe to the authenticity of the Bible, work was instituted from the first moments of Adam's existence in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 "The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it." However, work did not become hard for us until sin set in. As part of the Adamic curse, humans would only eat if they worked, and that work would be hard. Genesis 3:19 "By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Knowing what moves you. Being aware of your passion. Finding your purpose. These things require WORK! When you know what your passion is, and you pursue it, I promise you, your work burden drops 100 fold, to the point where what you are doing may not even feel like work anymore. I challenge you to dream your WHAT IF? However, there is a healthy way to do it, that will move you to action. I share that with you here. I challenge you to pursue your WHAT IF!
