Enjoy! 40 years ago, students at the University of California, Santa Cruz, defied their chancellor and overwhelming voted to change the university's official mascot from the Sea Lions to the Banana Slugs. This is the story of that vote and the official creation of what might be the most famous university mascot of all time.
