| 5/24/26 | ![]() Divine Intervention in a Post-Modern World with special guest Cameron Young | With many of our foundations in reason and Enlightenment-era thinking, Unitarian Universalists often struggle with mystery. We're often averse to things we might perceive as stories and beliefs that present as "supernatural." But what if "real" and "not real" is a false binary? Perhaps we're not asking the right questions when it comes to grappling with the unexplainable. About Cameron Young (they/them) Cameron is a lifelong Texan and Unitarian Universalist- prior to assuming the position as Lead for the UUA Southern Region Congregational Life staff, Cameron worked as field staff since 2019. Before joining the UUA, Cameron served as a lifespan religious educator in Fort Worth, Texas. Cameron has a Bachelor of Music from Louisiana State University and a Master of Divinity at Brite Divinity School where they graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Sexual and Gender Justice certificate and the prestigious Walker Preaching Scholarship- they are currently a candidate for UU Ministry. A professional musician and classically trained singer, Cameron has performed in numerous operas and musicals, is a member and co-founder of the singing group Uptown Carolers and recorded with Grammy award winner Leon Bridges on his debut album. In their spare time, Cameron is an avid traveler, diehard fan of DFW sports teams, and devoted coffee drinker. 💚 Consider making a one-time contribution to First Church today. | 3/20/26 | ![]() What Does Lent Mean to Unitarian Universalists? | Tiny Pulpit Talks: 056 | In this episode of Tiny Pulpit Talks, Rev. Dr. Daniel Kanter and Rev. T. J. Fitzgerald explore the meaning of Lent in simple terms. They talk about this season as a time to reflect on life, mortality, and what truly matters, while inviting listeners to consider spiritual practices that go beyond just "giving something up." Instead, they share how picking up meaningful habits—like prayer, reflection, or reading together—can help ground us in everyday life. The conversation also touches on themes of confession, grace, and the power of being fully known and still loved. Through personal stories and thoughtful dialogue, they imagine how a faith rooted in deep, freeing love might create space for healing and connection. | 3/15/26 | ![]() Reclaiming Religious Language: Sacrament | Rev. Beth Dana | "Sacrament" is not a common word in Unitarian Universalist discourse, but we say it every Sunday in our Affirmation. Let's explore what we really mean when we say "the quest of truth" is our sacrament. 📖 This sermon is part of our Reclaiming Religious Language Series In this series, we explore the religious words that shaped traditions before us and ask: What still speaks? What needs healing? What can we reclaim? Together, we will return again to the language of faith and engage with it honestly. | 3/13/26 | ![]() Down with Patriarchy, Up with Matriarchy: Celebrating Women's History Month | Tiny Pulpit Talks: 055 | In this special Women's History Month episode of Tiny Pulpit Talks, Rev. T. J. FitzGerald and Rev. Beth Dana reflect on the legacy of women's leadership in Unitarian Universalism. They share stories about pioneering minister Olympia Brown and the "Iowa Sisterhood," a group of women who helped build congregations across the Midwest in the late 1800s while facing barriers and skepticism along the way. Their courage, creativity, and faith helped shape a tradition where women have long held meaningful leadership roles. The conversation also explores what matriarchal leadership can look like today. Rev. T. J. and Rev. Beth talk about family influence, ministry, and the ways women have turned qualities often labeled as "feminine" into sources of strength and community power. They invite viewers to think about the matriarchs in their own lives and how those examples might guide the future of our churches, families, and communities. Happy Women's History Month! Dr. Daniel Kanter explores what it really means to give and receive a blessing in a world filled with conflict, fear, and uncertainty. Through stories, personal experiences, and the teachings of Jesus in the Beatitudes, he explores how blessing can begin with simple attention to one another and to the realities of life. This message invites us to slow down and see the people around us with compassion and care. | 3/1/26 | ![]() Reclaiming Religious Language: Faith | Rev. T. J. FitzGerald | Faith is not one-size-fits-all. For Unitarian Universalists, it can be rooted in many sources and expressed in many ways. Together, we'll consider how we claim and protect a life of faith that reflects our deepest values. Reclaiming Religious Language Series At the turning of the year, we pause to rediscover what matters most to us beneath the noise of daily life. Rooted in the Unitarian Universalist shared values, this series invites us into a spiritual homecoming in which we will reflect on the values that shape us. Through ritual, reflection, and community, we will release what no longer serves us, opening space for transformation. We will honor our pluralism, embrace our call to justice and equity, recognize our deep interdependence, and embody generosity as a way of being. At the center of it all, we return to love as a daily practice that grounds and sustains us. | — | ||||||
| 2/22/26 | ![]() Reclaiming Religious Language: Sin | Rev. T. J. FitzGerald | In this sermon, Rev. T. J. FitzGerald kicks of our Lenten series Reclaiming Religious Language by taking a fresh look at sin through a Unitarian Universalist lens. Starting in the Garden of Eden, he explores how the story has been shaped over time and how "original sin" may be less about disobedience and more about avoiding responsibility. Instead of inherited guilt, he considers the idea of original blessing and the power each person has to choose with conscience and courage. This sermon connects ancient scripture with the world we live in now. It challenges the habit of saying "I was just following orders" and invites us to take responsibility for our actions and our systems. In a time when injustice can feel overwhelming, Rev. T. J. calls us to claim our freedom, trust our moral voice, and live our faith with purpose. 📖 This sermon is part of our Reclaiming Religious Language Series In this series, we explore the religious words that shaped traditions before us and ask: What still speaks? | 2/8/26 | ![]() Love at the Center: A Unitarian Universalist Sermon about Shared Values | Rev. Beth Dana | In her sermon "Love at the Center," Rev. Beth Dana reflects on the meaning of unconditional love through the story of Hosea Ballou, a child who learned that he was loved even when he was muddy, curious, and imperfect. That early lesson shaped his belief that God's love must be wide enough for everyone. Rev. Dana invites us to remember that we are already beloved and we should see others the same way, especially in a world that often teaches shame, fear, and exclusion. Love is at the center of Unitarian Universalist faith and shows up in everyday practices like worship, community care, justice work, and self-compassion. The sermon calls us to keep choosing love, to take risks for it, and to let it guide how we live together. 🔥 This sermon is part of our Return to Who You Are Series At the turning of the year, we pause to rediscover what matters most to us beneath the noise of daily life. 💚 Consider making a one-time contribution to First Church today.
