The episode tells the story of Carlotta, a runaway slave from a Maryland plantation in 1858.

Carlotta was born to elderly parents in 1858 on a Maryland plantation. She was known to be very athletic and a fast runner and trained around the plantation up into her teenage years. Being so close to the Mason Dixon line she was always warned to be careful to not be suspicious of trying to escape. But deep down being born on a plantation, that's all Carlotta could think about. Her parents being elderly posed as a threat as they would be killed at anytime, because they could no longer provide service.
