On 7 September 1936 the last known thylacine, 'Benjamin', died from exposure in a zoo in Hobart, Tasmania. The last of his kind in captivity, & likely one of the last of his kind full stop. But being officially declared in 1986 has not stopped reported sightings and encounters of Tasmanian Tigers both in Tasmania and on the Australian mainland, from suburban Victoria to Qld's remote Cape York. Back in the 1800's a hard working Chinese vegetable gardener named Johnny was drowned in the waterhole of Lilyvale, by the town of the same name. The year's went by and the town moved on, now there is nothing out there but a few remnants of the bustling town it once was. You might never know there was a town there at all. But no-one told Johnny.

There's a stretch of road in North Queensland between Sarina and Rockhampton that sends a shiver down the spine of any driver. It's official name is the Marlborough Sarina Road, but ask anyone and they'll tell you its the Death Highway, the Murder Stretch, the Crystal Highway. The Horror Highway.
