| 4/7/26 | How Should We Contend With the Death? | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from Casual Conversation with Ven. Pomnyun Sunim(October 10, 2021)🔹Question : In one of your lessons, you paint a picture of animals running headlong to a cliff-edge in their potential death without wondering why they do so. I fear we have the burden of death as a shadow, knowing we're going to die no matter what. The animals seem all to contend with which my heavenly influence of consciousness and actions. Some Buddhists talk about death, not just our inevitable demise but dying to edge of end in our life. It's second dying beingwith own anew from moment to moment. Do you see any value in this approach? | 3/13/26 | How Can I Stop Being Greedy? | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Union TheologicalSeminary (Oct. 2, 2014)🔹Question: MY question is how to control my mind that's becoming more and more greedy. I was able to graduate from the program that I wanted to study. I think I could potentiallyget a job that I've been dreamed of. Anyway I was able to marry the person that I wanted. I was able to graduate from the program I know there were lots of things I could be appreciative of. But these days, I had trouble getting a jobafter the graduation. I noticed myself wanting more and more, becoming more resentful of not being able to get a job. I try to control myself. I try to be more mindful of what's going on in my mind. But at times, it's hard to control myself and to be appreciative of what I have already. Do you have any tips tohelp me to learn how to control my mind? As college students, we struggle. | 3/6/26 | How to Deal with Uncertainty | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from a Dharma Q & A at Harvard University(Sep. 20, 2017)🔹Question : Hi. Thanks for speaking to us. So I am a recent graduate of Harvard. I just graduated in May. I am leaving tomorrow for England to do a master’s program. I want to ask you about uncertainty and how to deal with uncertainty. So, for example, basically, the reason I am doing this master’s program is because I want to see if I want to study for a Ph.D. And basically, because the program is a year, if I want to do a Ph.D. next year, I need to decide in the next month. Let’s say, whether or not I want to do it, do applications, to get stuff, you know, basically to get the process go. But I can’t really make that decision until I go and see how this next program is going to be. The way that I deal with uncertainty in these kinds of situations right now is to think about the time frame. How much time that I have to deal with it, and really take everything day by day and see how things evolve. So focus more on the present and how things come instead of resigning myself to something that just kind of could say ‘I am going to do this in the future’. But I wanted to see what you might have to say about dealing with uncertainty in these kinds of situations.🔻Jungto Dharma School(Introduction to Buddhism):https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/ 🔻 All Jungto Society’ssocial platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint | — | ||||||
| 3/3/26 | My Students Struggle to Maintain Their Motivation in Learning English. | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Ven. Pomnyun's Answer to "My Students Struggle toMaintain Their Motivation in Learning English." Selection from a DharmaQ&A session at Jogye-sa Temple, Seoul, Korea (Jun. 15, 2018)🔹Question : I am married to a Korean woman and we have a small English school and I wanted to ask a question about education. In our school, we help elementary students tolearn English and English is a very difficult topic. It takes years to become proficient. And All of our students would like to be better in English. They know that it's good for them and it can help them to achieve their dreams. But it's also very difficult. In that way it seems to me it's very similar to Buddhist’s practice, which can be very long and difficult and sometimes boring. And Sometimes we can really want to achieve things, but when it comes to actual practice, it's hard to maintain motivation. So any advice that you could have for my students and for me to help my students develop that motivation tolearn, we would really appreciate it. And also thank you for making this teaching available to us in English. 🔻Jungto Dharma School(Introduction to Buddhism):https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/ 🔻 All Jungto Society’ssocial platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint | — | ||||||
| 2/27/26 | What Aspects Should I Consider When Choosing a Career? | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A 2023. 7. 3🔹Question : Hello. First, I would like to thank you for doing this and making it available for many people. I personally have learned so much from your videos. I'm a graduatestudent studying interdisciplinary field in math, physics, and engineering. And I enjoy learning and doing research. My concern is regarding the future after my graduate study. Recently I've been thinking that I don't want to go intoacademia because firstly, it is extremely competitive and I don't like being in a competitive environment. And secondly, I feel like it is a bit isolated from the outside world. But if I consider industry, I feel like there's no guarantee that the technology that I'll be developing will be used for positive causes. I was working for several years before coming to thegraduate school. The reason why I came to graduate school was partially because I didn't find the job interesting and partially because I didn't see much value in what I was doing. My question is which quality should I consider more whenit comes to choosing my career. Whether I find the job interesting or whether I find it meaningful. Thank you. 🔻Jungto Dharma School(Introduction to Buddhism):https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/ 🔻 All Jungto Society’ssocial platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint | — | ||||||
| 2/24/26 | I Am Considering Quitting My Job | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A 2023. 11.19🔹Question : Hello, Sunim. Thank you for taking my question. I hope you get better soon from your surgery. My question is about my current work and changing jobs. I'm wonderingwhat I should do when I don't know exactly what I want. Up until now at work, I've tried to do what I'm told to do as best as possible. But I often get annoyed and feel like I don't want to do it. I feel that this job won't help advance my career or even make me happy. But when I am about to quit the joband try to find something else, this thought comes to me, "What would be the big difference?" So, I rethink it and stay. I also feel sorry for the company and colleagues I work with whenever I am ready to leave the company. I think I have to be satisfied with what I have for now, but my greed for a newjob makes me suffer. I didn't do anything particularly wrong to my colleagues or to the company that I am currently working for. And they didn't do anything particularly good to me either. But whenever I think about leaving the company, I worry about being criticized and feel sorry for them wheneverI think about the moment to tell them, "I quit." I actually don'tknow why I feel that way. These worries and thoughts repeat every time I am ready to quit and change to a new job. I'd like to get your advice on this. | 1/30/26 | My Neighbors' Dogs Have Been Urinating in My Garden. | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A 2023. 7. 16🔹Question: Hi Sunim. It's nice to see you. I appreciate having this opportunity. My question is about a relationship with a neighbor. I am someone who really loves nature on manylevels including the beauty of nature, and, in particular, I love flowers. Last year, we bought a new home, and it was not in great shape, so we made repairs. We had a landscaper put in a lawn and flowers to make it more beautiful. Our neighbors were really happy that we did this, and they acknowledged us. But this summer, they are allowing their dogs to urinate on our newly landscaped lawn and property. There are four dogs that are particularly a part of this. Last weekend, I got very sad about it, but I also was very angry. So, I was talking to my husband, and I said to him, "I want to find a Buddhist way to think about this." I'm wondering, "Am I too attached to the garden? Should I allow it to just be ruined?" As a Buddhist practitioner, I'm really interested in your wisdom on what would be the best for me and my neighbors? 🔻Jungto Dharma School(Introduction to Buddhism):https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/ 🔻 All Jungto Society’ssocial platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint | — | ||||||
| 1/27/26 | A Call for Peace and Action | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the death and thedestruction that we see on the media are heartbreaking. In all conflicts, each side has justifiable reasons, but it is not right to resort to military intervention to resolve disputes. I sincerely hope that the current military conflict comes to an end as soon as possible and that the Ukrainian people can quickly recover their sense of normalcy and peace. Let’s take a moment ofsilence (and meditation) to wish for peace. For the war to end as soon as possible, the international community must come together and send a unified message that it is not right to settle disputes with military force. However, the most effective solution will be for the Russian citizens to raise their collective voices in asking the Russian government for a prompt end to the war. The crucial factor in ending the Vietnam War was not military victories or defeats.Ultimately, it was the anti-war movements by many people asking for peace within the U.S. that helped to end the war. It is necessary for the international community to cooperate to restrain Russia’s unjustifiable actions with economic and diplomatic sanctions. However, it is also very important forpeople in all corners of the world to continuously raise their voices for peace. May all living beings be happy and peaceful. February 27, 2022 Ven. | 1/16/26 | How Do We Deal with the Groups that Against the Rest of the World ? | 🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from a Dharma Q&A session in UCLA (Nov. 16,2014)🔹Question: When we see suffering and when we see crimes being perpetrated by certain groups against the rest of the world, how do we approach that problem? How do we engage it? Today you could see in many parts of the world where similar things are happening, where people are very determined to advance their agenda and to exterminate physically destroy anyone who opposes them. We can look at communism, we can look at other ideologies that are very aggressive. That do not want to coexist with anybody, do not want to accept anybody’s alternative ideas. They see the world in only one way. And anyone who opposes them will be destroyed. So how do we address that? How do we as the conscious and enlightened human being deal with that?
