About this episode

The episode discusses a series of murders of women renting rooms in the 1920s across the U.S. and Canada, highlighting the lack of communication between local police forces.

Starting in 1926, women renting out rooms began turning up dead in cities across the United States and into Canada. In each case, the circumstances were nearly identical, the victim had let someone into her home, and the encounter ended in violence. At the time, there was no system in place to connect cases across jurisdictions, so each investigation stayed local. Police followed leads within their own cities, unaware that similar scenes were unfolding elsewhere. It would take time before anyone realized these weren’t isolated incidents, but part of a pattern moving from place to place.
