Moreover, governmental policies influence the type of music that is encouraged or suppressed, shaping cultural identities amidst shifting social, economic, and political landscapes.Ghassan Moukheiber is a Lebanese lawyer, academic, and politician. He is known for his work in human rights, anti-corruption, and civil society advocacy. Moukheiber served as a member of the Lebanese Parliament, representing the Metn district, from 2002 to 2018. Welcome to a new Episode of the Tarab 3arab Podcast! Episode 19 "Music and Fate in the Jeita Grotto", with an eminent figure in the world of electroacoustic music, french composer François Bayle. What Happened in 1969, in the Jeita Grotto in Lebanon? Something very special indeed. A concert in the Cave. Why? How? Through a very unlikely turn of events, the lives of the great Speleologist Sami Karkabi, and then. director of the Groupe de Recherche Musicale François Bayle coincided, and brought first a one of a kind musical event, a world premiere in that regard: an electronic music concert inside the Jeita Grotto, through a remarkable effort from the National Counsel of Tourism in Lebanon, and more importantly, through the aid of fate. François Bayle's avant-garde music was the main attraction on January 11th and 12th, which then brought Stockhausen in November of the same year to have his Stimmung performed. We can attribute to a “non-Western” childhood, to a more or less nomadic and mainly self-taught musical training, his natural adaptation to the problematic nature of experimental music, especially in the situation of the 60s, a generation in which F.B. takes place in his beginnings as a composer. Head of the GRM (Musical Research Group) in 1966, first with P. Schaeffer (ORTF Research Department), then within the INA (1975-1997), it is through these organisms with an original destiny that F.B brings together and constitutes the elements of his experience, acquires and develops his personal techniques of an acousmatic sound profession. Leaving the GRM in 1997, François Bayle set up his own digital audio and multiphonic workshop: Studio Magison where he now devotes himself completely to research, writing and composition. At this musical premiere of Jeita, President Hélou, whose interest in the realization of Sami Karkabi's project is known, was represented by Mr. Pierre Gemayel, Minister of Tourism. Among the foreign personalities invited by the National Tourism Council Mr. Georges Gorse, former French Minister of Tourism, Prince Thibaut, son of the Count of Paris, Mr. Pierre Lyautey, the Duke and Duchess of Ba- dajoz, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess Karl Zu Schwarzenberg, Princess Jean de Broglie, Prince Albert Zu Eltz, Countess Cecily Salm, Count Jacques de Ricaumont, etc.

And most importantly, WHY?Here to unfold all of that, be it as an introduction to the matter, Dr. Albert Moukheiber.After a degree in psychology from the American University of Beirut, he continued his studies in France where he obtained a doctorate in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Paris 6 and a masters degree in clinical psychology, in Paris 5 and Paris 81.With other neuroscientists, he founded the Chiasma association which organises conferences and workshops to explain the brain mechanisms that underlie our reasoning and our vision of the world.In 2019, he published the book Your brain is playing tricks on you in which he addresses the functioning of the brain and cognitive biases by affirming that “the less we know a subject, the less we are able to measure the extent to which we do not master the subject in question . Memory Master MusicianAfter a long spell of absence, here is EPISODE #11 of #Tarab3arabPodcast with an incredible musical talent from Lebanon, a man with an immense musical memory and who most importantly, taught himself how to play piano, before even knowing what a piano was.Mohtadi El Hajj started playing piano at a young age. His first musical impressions started when he listened to Beethovens sonatas for the first time. Since then he started taking piano lessons in different musical institutions, and eventually started to perform locally and internationally. In 2017, he participated in the qualification piano concerto competition of the International Music Production Agency (IMPA) in Moscow, Russia. There he was chosen to play Rachmaninoff’s 3rd piano concerto in the final concert with the Ministry of Defense orchestra directed by the conductor Vladimir Ponkin at MosConcert Hall. Rahman. Set to perform at all major events and celebrations at the Expo, the orchestra brings together musicians of 23 nationalities from the MENA region to create an innovative sound by merging Western, Eastern, and Oriental instruments. The repertoire includes a vast array of music genres and styles from Symphonic works to Arabic music, Indian music, Hollywood themes, Bollywood themes, Qawwali, Music Theatre (to name a few) and commissioned compositions and unique arrangements by AR Rahman. Sabbah also collaborated and conducted alongside global music icons Andrea Bocelli, Christina Aguilera, Anoushka Shankar and Hussain Al Jassmi.Sabbah is also the Director of Music at the Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth and has led the Choeur de l’USJ since 2016. Founded in 2015 by Pr. Salim Daccache s.j., the USJ Choir has grown to include over seventy singers. Sabbah also directs the Ensemble Vocal Baroque de l’USJ, an advanced chamber choir specialized in early music. She has curated and conducted a large and varied repertoire ranging from Baroque to Contemporary music, most notably performances of Vaughan Williams’s “Dona Nobis Pacem”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, Handel’s “Messiah”, Haydn’s “Nelson Mass”, J.S. Bach’s “St. John Passion”, Jenkins’ “The Armed Man” along with many others.MARIO EL RAHI:Born in Lebanon in 1983, Mario Rahi started the violin at a very young age. He pursued his diploma studies at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Rome with Maestro Claudio Cornoldi. In 2011, Mario Rahi was awarded his master’s degree, with the maximum vote from the Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia with Prof. Domenico Nordio and Sonig Tchakerian.‍During his studies, Mario attended several master classes for solo, chamber and orchestral music with renowned professors such as Salvatore Accardo at the Accademia Chigiana of Siena. He was appointed concert master at the World Youth Orchestra from 2001 until 2010, and performed with famous and reputed Italian artists such as Bruno Giuranna (chamber music) and Stefano Montanari (Baroque music). Later on, Mario was admitted to the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra, established by the legendary film-music composer Ennio Morricone.Back to Lebanon at the age of 28, Mario has been part of the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra since 2011. He is currently a violin teacher at the Lebanese National Conservatory of Music. He also contributed to the development of the “Conservatory Youth Orchestra” that he has been coaching with great passion and dedication until today. Mario appeared several times as soloist and concertmaster with the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra performing concertos by Mozart, Saint-Saëns and Hakim. He is often invited to perform in many festivals in Lebanon and abroad especially in Italy. Mario reserves particular interest in promoting Lebanese classical music, some of the compositions were dedicated to him such as Iyad kanaans violin sonata and Naji Hakims variations on a minuet by J.S Bach.

He has worked with many leading artists including, Soap Kills, The New Government, Katibe5, Shiftz, Hiba Mansouri, Kanjha Kora, Kazamada, Maryam Saleh, Maii Waleed, Dany Baladi, Zeid and the Wings (his own project) and recently Marie Abou Khaled, Tanjaret Daghet, Muhammad Abdullah from EL MORRABA3 and Lynn Adib.In July 2011, Hamdan was arrested, reportedly for political sedition. He was detained over a song deemed insulting to President Michel Suleiman, a former army chief. Slandering the president carries a maximum two-year sentence in Lebanon. Officials reportedly took exception to the lyrics: General go home. He was released the day after, and was told to go home.[3]When the 2019 financial crisis hit Lebanon, Zeid Hamdan was about to release “the Beit Project” a collaboration with Tanjaret Daghet , Muhammad Abdullah from the Band “ El Morabba3” and himself. The project was due to be launched on the 19th October, but demonstration started on October 17th and it was the beginning of the uprising in Lebanon.At that period Zeid Hamdan had started to collaborate with Lynn Adib.
