| 3/13/23 | The Consequences of Bullying: A Firsthand Account | In this episode, Tyler and Dionna discuss a difficult experience she went through during her first attempt at living independently in college. Dionna had been excited to live on her own at SUNY Brockport, but things quickly turned sour when her roommate began to bully her because of her disability. Despite Dionna's efforts to address the issue, the bullying continued and ultimately led to her seeking help from the police. One day, while in the process of moving to another apartment, Dionna's roommate appeared and caused a scene. The police were called and made the roommate leave. Shockingly, despite admitting to bullying Dionna, the roommate was not prosecuted for her actions, which qualified as a federal hate crime. The conversation delves into the emotional impact of bullying and the difficulty of seeking justice in such situations. It's truly mind-boggling to think that someone could wake up in the morning and purposely hurt another person without any remorse.
