| 12/24/25 | ![]() Prince - Around the World in a Day (A deep dive with author James Campion) (1985) | For this episode, Trevor and Shane are joined by acclaimed writer James Campion, author of Revolution: Prince, the Band, the Era, whose deep well of knowledge on Prince proves invaluable as he selects Around the World in a Day for a full track-by-track dive. Coming on the heels of Purple Rain, this album represents one of the boldest pivots in Prince’s career and an intentional left turn away from blockbuster expectations and toward psychedelic color, whimsy, and artistic autonomy. With Campion as guide, the conversation explores how Around the World in a Day functions not as a retreat, but as a statement: Prince asserting that commercial dominance would never come at the expense of curiosity. Trevor and Shane unpack the album’s playful textures, spiritual undercurrents, and surprising emotional weight, while Campion contextualizes each song within Prince’s broader mythology, creative restlessness, and refusal to be pinned down. More than a reaction to fame, this record emerges as a crucial hinge point in Prince’s discography bridging eras, expanding his sonic palette, and reminding listeners that unpredictability was always the point. Anchored by Campion’s mastery and passion, this episode celebrates Around the World in a Day not as an odd detour, but as a fearless declaration from an artist determined to stay ahead of himself. check out James Campion’s patreon “Profunde Musique” so you don’t miss out on anything James puts out next: https://www.patreon.com/cw/ProfondeMusique _______________________________________________________________________________HOW TO CONNECT WITH ALBUM DIVERS:*You can submit your questions or comments about this episode or anything else on your mind here via our text line at:(502) 792-8080*Leave us an audio message here:https://www.speakpipe.com/AlbumDiversWe promise to respond and may even feature your thoughts on a future episode. *Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Album Divers*Email us at Albumdiverspodcast@gmail.com*Please subscribe and review wherever you get your podcasts! | 1h 42m 40s | ||||||
| 7/21/25 | ![]() Divorce - Drive to Goldenhammer (2025) | For his latest pick of a 2025 album, Shane selects the striking debut album Drive to Goldenhammer by Nottingham’s genre-defying band, Divorce. Balancing grit and vulnerability, Divorce delivers a bold introduction with their unique blend of alt-country, art rock, and post-punk flair. Shane and Trevor explore the raw emotional terrain of this album — from heartbreak to self-destruction — and appreciate how the band’s dual vocal dynamic deepens the storytelling. Whether dissecting lyrical nuance or nodding along to a groove-heavy breakdown, Trevor and Shane find plenty to love in this eclectic and unpredictable debut. _______________________________________________________________________________HOW TO CONNECT WITH ALBUM DIVERS:*You can submit your questions or comments about this episode or anything else on your mind here via our text line at:(502) 792-8080*Leave us an audio message here:https://www.speakpipe.com/AlbumDiversWe promise to respond and may even feature your thoughts on a future episode. *Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Album Divers*Email us at Albumdiverspodcast@gmail.com*Please subscribe and review wherever you get your podcasts! | 2h 11m 50s | ||||||
| 2/16/25 | ![]() Pearl Jam - Ten (1991) | For Shane's next pick of an album that has "been around awhile" he selects the iconic debut "Ten" by grunge legends, Pearl Jam. Even with Trevor's Seattle roots, and Shane's incessant teasing about being him being old, Trevor and Shane were too young to remember the grunge movement while it was happening. Nonetheless, these songs were and continue to be pervasive both in their lives and in the historical backdrop of rock music in general. Though Trevor didn't own this album growing up, and Shane may have only had a Napster copy, songs from this album were played on friend's older siblings boom boxes and '87 trans ams in the background of both their coming of age years. For all of these reasons, a wish for a vinyl copy made it's way onto Trevor's Discogs list years ago and finally into his hands this month as album number 2 of 3 in a gift box from Shane as he revealed his pick to Trevor. Trevor and Shane have fun breaking down each track, analyzing where Pearl Jam sits within rock's history, and attempting to define what the term "grunge" really means as elusive as it may be. __________________________________________________________________________________HOW TO CONNECT WITH ALBUM DIVERS:*You can submit your questions or comments about this episode or anything else on your mind here via our text line at:(502) 792-8080*Leave us an audio message here:https://www.speakpipe.com/AlbumDiversWe promise to respond and may even feature your thoughts on a future episode. *Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Album Divers*Email us at Albumdiverspodcast@gmail.com*Please subscribe and review wherever you get your podcasts! | 2h 57m 11s | ||||||
| 1/2/25 | ![]() 2024 "Best of the Rest" (Album Divers top 10 albums of the year) | On this final episode of 2024, Trevor and Shane each select 5 albums and together compile their top 10 albums of the year. The ground rules were simple and were the same this year as prior years: 1. They couldn't select an album from 2024 that already had a "deep dive" episode. 2. They wouldn't be ranking their top 5 or the final top 10 in any particular order 3. They couldn't both select the same album. Finally, at the end of the episode, Shane and Trevor each announce their #1 album of the year, information they have not previously shared with one another until this moment recording. With these self-imposed rules in place, Trevor and Shane took turns sharing their picks for the year one by one. The list is as follows: Trevor: The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World, Pedro the Lion - Santa Cruz, Grandaddy - Blu Wave, Orville Peck - Stampede, Royel Otis - Pratts & Pain Shane: MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks, Khruangbin - A LA SALA, The Felice Brothers - Valley of Abandoned Songs, Sierra Farrell - Trail of Flowers, Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us Did your favorite album make our list? | 12/7/24 | ![]() Needtobreathe - Into the Mystery (2021) | On this special episode, Trevor sits down with his lifelong childhood friend Caleb to discuss his pick of the band Needtobreathe’s 2021 album, “Into the Mystery.” This is an album that speaks deeply to Caleb in its lyrics and music that touch on themes of love, coming of age, and spirituality. This was Trevor’s introduction to the band and an opportunity to connect even deeper to a meaningful friendship with Caleb. The word “honesty” kept coming up in their discussion as these songs are uplifting and hopeful, but they don’t shy away from the struggles that might precede these feelings. The album features artists Natalie Hemby, Jon Foreman (Switchfoot), and Carrie Underwood. | 9/24/24 | ![]() Everything Everything - Mountainhead (2024) | For his next pick of an album from this calendar year, Shane selects the 7th studio album by the Manchester art rock band, Everything Everything. The album is a concept album and metaphor for human inequality depicted as a fictional world where the common workers (Mountainheads) must build a giant mountain where every inch higher brings them deeper and deeper into a pit they find themselves living within. Shane and Trevor have fun breaking down these dense lyrics but equally enjoy just bobbing their heads and dancing to so many of these 14 amazing tracks. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ HOW TO CONNECT WITH ALBUM DIVERS: *You can submit your questions or comments about this episode or anything else on your mind here via our text line at: (502) 792-8080 *Leave us an audio message here: https://www.speakpipe.com/AlbumDivers We promise to respond and may even feature your thoughts on a future episode. *Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Album Divers *Email us at Albumdiverspodcast@gmail.com *Please subscribe and review wherever you get your podcasts! | 2h 18m 44s | ||||||
| 8/11/24 | ![]() Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) | On this special episode, Trevor sits down with Joey Deschenes, his long time friend and lead singer of the band Carciofi to discuss Joey's favorite band and one of his favorite albums of all time with Primus's Sailing the Seas of Cheese. For over four decades now, Primus has combined some of the most technically complex music in rock and roll with some of the silliest imagery, both from a songwriting perspective and a visual component with their art work and music videos that often feature pig masks and strange claymation. Often touted as one of the most skilled bassists in history, Les Claypool, the band's lead singer and principle songwriter writes most of his songs with the bass guitar providing not only the backbone of the music, but the lead riffs. Joey and Trevor have fun reminiscing about how impressive this band is to see live. Whether you have been listening to them for decades, just discovered this band, or only know them as that band from the Tony Hawk skater game or the South Park theme song, you are in for a treat as Album Divers break down this impressive and hilarious album. ***Dont forget to check out our featured independent artist and this episode's guest, Joey Deschenes and his band Carciofi! | 8/6/24 | ![]() Dog Party - Dangerous (Inside the Making of "Dangerous" with Gwennie and Lucy Giles) (2024) | On this special episode, Shane and Trevor sit down with sisters Gwennie and Lucy Giles of the pop-punk duo Dog Party and discuss their latest album Dangerous. This is already the 7th studio album for the Giles sisters who began playing and writing songs together when they were just kids growing up in Sacramento. Dangerous is also their first release under their own label, "Sneak Dog Records" co-founded with Lizzie Killian (Teens in Trouble). | 1h 30m 35s | ||||||
| 6/14/24 | ![]() Joanna Newsom - Ys (2006) | On this special episode, Trevor sits down with his sister Jessie to discuss her favorite all time artist Joanna Newsom. Joanna has the ability to channel a childlike innocence in her voice, yet at the same time a mythical elderly sage. Her lyrics are no less mysterious, and Jessie and Trevor have fun trying to unwrap all of the meaning behind these 5 tracks that span almost an hour. Part of the beauty of that mystery is it can't fully realized, let alone broken down on a podcast. All of this is not even to mention her beautiful harp playing that somehow adds both strength and frailty throughout the album. This was also an opportunity for Trevor to dive deeper into what draws his sister to this Joanna, and why both of them are so special. | 1h 46m 47s | ||||||

| 5/5/24 | ![]() Teens in Trouble - What's Mine (A deep dive with the artist Lizzie Killian) (2024) | On this episode, Trevor and Shane sit down with Lizzie Killian, the voice and mind behind Teens in Trouble's debut album What's Mine. In the words of the album's producer/engineer Ryan Perras (and uttered by him in the background during the album itself if you listen closely enough), "When you're doing songs like this the key is to make it as stupid as humanely fucking possible." That isn't exactly the feeling evoked listening to these 10 tracks, but somewhere around the stomping, train whistle, and dreams about making out with Joseph Gordon Levitt, you can start to understand where the impetus for that quote came from. However, amidst a discussion with Lizzie that digs into the stories behind some of these more transparent and lighter songs, it becomes clear there is much more than just a self-proclaimed awkward girl recanting them. Shane and Trevor were so grateful to discover this album and get to hear about these stories from the artist herself on this special track-by-track breakdown. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ HOW TO CONNECT WITH ALBUM DIVERS: *You can submit your questions or comments about this episode or anything else on your mind here via our text line at: 425-287-6832 *Leave us an audio message here: https://www.speakpipe.com/AlbumDivers We promise to respond and may even feature your thoughts on a future episode. *Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Album Divers *Email us at Albumdiverspodcast@gmail.com *Please subscribe and review wherever you get your podcasts! | 1h 58m 17s | ||||||
| 4/10/24 | ![]() Radiohead - OK Computer (1997) | For his next pick of an album that has “been around awhile,” Trevor takes us back to 1997 and selects Radiohead’s groundbreaking album Ok Computer. This was more or less Shane’s entry point into the band, at least as far as consuming a full album is concerned. As is commonly the case with this band, it took time for Shane to appreciate these songs and this album in its entirety, just like it did for Trevor as a 13 year old upon its release. The influence of this music laid the groundwork for so many albums that came after it, and for that reason, upon reflection nearly three decades later, this music doesn’t feel as hard to digest as it did in its release, but the creativity and innovation remain as impactful as ever. Ok Computer also remains a pivotal album in Radiohead’s discography as they would move even deeper into experimentation in albums to come. Finally, Shane and Trevor discuss the importance and value of this experimentation on the zeitgeist of popular music but balance that with the value of a band that may by contrast find its groove and stay there. | 11/17/22 | ![]() Mandolin Orange - Such Jubilee (2015) | For his next pick of an album that has, “been around awhile” Shane selects Mandolin Orange’s 2015 release, “Such Jubilee.” Mandolin Orange (now known as Watchhouse since a name change last year) is an Americana/Folk duo from North Carolina formed in 2009 by husband and wife duo Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz. Shane has special memories with this band seeing them live with his father. Trevor’s introduction to the band was their 2019 release which Shane had recommended when Album Divers was in its infancy though never materialized as a deep dive episode. This 2015 release was written by the couple while on the road, but recorded back at home in North Carolina and offers a stripped down aesthetic which allows the listener to absorb lyrics offering little worlds about the importance of savoring the moment in the context of love, loss, and generational connection. This album represents the first revelation by Shane of a trio of albums that he purchased on vinyl for Trevor as a surprise gift. The next two will be revealed to both him and the Album Divers audience in due time. Stay tuned.________________________________________________________________________________________________ HOW TO CONNECT WITH ALBUM DIVERS: *You can submit your questions or comments about this episode or anything else on your mind here via our text line at: 425-287-6832 *Leave us an audio message here: https://www.speakpipe.com/AlbumDivers We promise to respond and may even feature your thoughts on a future episode. *Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Album Divers *Email us at Albumdiverspodcast@gmail.com *Please subscribe and review wherever you get your podcasts! | 1h 56m 00s | ||||||
| 9/18/22 | ![]() Arcade Fire - WE (2022) | For Shane's pick of a 2022 album, he selected indie rock staple Arcade Fire and their new album "WE.” This was a unique endeavor for your hosts at Album Divers in that Arcade Fire is a band Trevor had been following since their beginnings but lost track of in recent years, and Shane, though familiar with the band’s music, had never listened to an entire album from start to finish. Arcade Fire’s latest album “WE” was written in the throes of isolation brought on by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Arcade Fire weaves interstellar imagery with Greek mythos and takes the listener through the rabbit hole that is the disintegrating human connection found and lost again in technology and social media. Like many of Arcade Fire's previous releases, this record is a concept album. It is divided into two halves. The first, titled “I,” represents the self, and the second, "WE,” portrays our relationship with others. "WE” takes the listener into an imagined dystopia of anxiety, violently destroys it, and builds a new world again, only to find clarity in human connection. *** Special thanks to those of your who contributed your thoughts on this album via audio clips. You will hear your voices sprinkled in throughout the episode. *** This episode was recorded before hearing of allegations of sexual misconduct from four unnamed individuals against lead singer Win Butler. For this reason and others that we explain to begin the episode, you will not hear these allegations mentioned throughout the album’s dissection. Shane and Trevor have had several thoughtful conversations about this topic and encourage you to do the same. ________________________________________________________________________________________________HOW TO CONNECT WITH ALBUM DIVERS:*You can submit your questions or comments about this episode or anything else on your mind here via our text line at:425-287-6832*Leave us an audio message here:https://www.speakpipe.com/AlbumDiversWe promise to respond and may even feature your thoughts on a future episode.*Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Album Divers*Email us at Albumdiverspodcast@gmail.com*Please subscribe and review wherever you get your podcasts! | 2h 50m 24s | ||||||
| 6/21/22 | ![]() The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) | For their next pick of an album that has been around awhile, Trevor and Shane go back 55 years to the date to break down an album that needs no introduction, The Beatles’ “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Recognizing this as an arduous task, Shane and Trevor were fortunate and grateful to have Authors James Campion and Katie Darby Mullins provide their thoughts on this iconic album on the episode. In addition, several listeners, friends, and fellow music podcasters chimed in on their favorite tracks. If you submitted audio for this purpose, listen for your contribution throughout the episode. Fittingly, Shane and Trevor realize by the end of this album exploration that they would not have been able to get by without a little help from their friends. Though recorded 22 years earlier, this album was not released to the public until 1985 as Sam Cooke's record label felt that the raw and unpolished sound of Cooke performing in a small predominately black club in Florida would damage his image and alienate his suburban white audience. "One Night Stand" presents Sam Cooke like never heard by most audiences during his life and is filled with raw emotion from both Sam and the crowd, as Sam's voice becomes progressively more raspy with the swelling energy of the evening. Shane and Trevor discuss Sam Cooke's life and history, his role in the civil rights movement of the 60s, and they attempt to make sense of his tragic killing at the age of 33, one year after this album was recorded in 1964. At the conclusion of their deep dive of this album, Trevor and Shane both agree that despite the fact that "One Night Stand" presents a stark contrast to Sam Cooke's studio albums and public image, it is a side of Sam Cooke that showcases an essential portrait of who he truly was as an artist and performer. ***Dont forget to check out our featured independent artist for this episode, OVRGRWN! | 12/30/21 | ![]() 2021 ”Best of the Rest” (Album Divers top 10 albums of the year) | On this final episode of 2021, Trevor and Shane each select 5 albums and together compile their top 10 albums of the year. The ground rules were simple and were the same this year as last year: 1. They couldn't select an album from 2021 that already had a "deep dive" episode. 2. They wouldn't be ranking their top 5 or the final top 10 in any particular order 3. They couldn't both select the same album. The one new addition this year was at the end of the episode, Shane and Trevor would each announce their #1 album of the year. With these self-imposed rules in place, Trevor and Shane took turns sharing their picks for the year one by one. The list is as follows: Trevor: Maximo Park - Nature Always Wins, Pom Poko - Cheater, Serpentwithfeet - Deacon, The War on Drugs - I Don't Live Here Anymore, Idles - Crawler Shane: Manchester Orchestra - The Million Masks of God, Joe Pug - The Diving Sun, The Killers - Pressure Machine, Houndmouth - Good For You, Lord Huron - Long Lost Did your favorite album make our list? | 12/7/21 | ![]() Lucy Dacus - Home Video (2021) | For his last selection of a 2021 album, Trevor selects Lucy Dacus' June release titled, "Home Video." Lucy Dacus has carved a name for herself with her unique songwriting and layered themes. Once a film school student prior to becoming a musician, Lucy has now released three studio albums as well as collaborated with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker to form the supergroup "Boy Genius." This album see's the indie singer-songwriter drawing inspiration from her childhood as well as her teenage years. Many of the songs are inspired by actual diary entries that Lucy found herself re-reading on her first trip back to her hometown of Richmond Virginia. Dacus describes the experience as one in which she no longer recognized her former self, and wondered if her former self would approve of who she has become. This album is definitely raw and exposed like a heart on your sleeve. As Lucy describes in one track on this album, "it's embarrassing, the pulpy thing beating." While that may be the case, it's also relatable and perhaps a necessary checkpoint on the path of an young artist blossoming into a powerful force in the indie-pop genre. ***Dont forget to check out our featured independent artist and album for this episode, Peter Carr of Wake the Watchman! | 10/30/21 | ![]() Ben Folds - Rockin‘ The Suburbs (2001) | For Shane's pick of an album that has "been around awhile," he selects Ben Folds' 2001 release Rockin' the Suburbs. Trevor and Shane have fun reminiscing on an album that they both have history with and memories listening to growing up. This album covers topics of love, fatherhood, self-identity, and depression but somehow also manages to work in some humor on a couple of tracks. Some of the songs are specific to personal events in Ben's life, and others create stories with personal names and places that open up worlds and characters. The lyrics detour some from albums that have been covered on Album Divers in the past with writing that is lest cryptic and laced with literary reference. Ben Folds' lyrics are simple but poignant and carefully selected to paint a picture with the proper amount of weight to them. On the musical side, this album represents a detour for Ben Folds into higher production quality, but his impressive piano playing continue to be the backbone of his work in this album as it was with his work on Ben Folds Five. ***Dont forget to check out our featured independent artist and album for this episode, All Poets and Heroes with their 2020 release Occhiolism! | 9/13/21 | ![]() Counting Crows - Butter Miracle Suite One (with special guest Katie Darby Mullins) (2021) | For Trevor's next pick of a new album from 2021, he selects the latest from Counting Crows titled Butter Miracle Suite One. Joining Trevor and Shane for this album dive is special guest Katie Darby Mullins. In addition to being a die-hard fan of the band, Katie is also a longtime friend of lead singer Adam Duritz. If that isn't enough to get you excited, she also teaches creative writing at the University of Evansville including a course titled, "How to Write About Music," and she is a gifted poet and novelist (see more on Katie below). Shane, Trevor, and Katie have fun diving deep into the lyrics of one of their favorite songwriters after what has been a 7 year break since the band's last album. This 4 song suite is a unique endeavor for Adam Duritz who found himself being inspired by the solitude of a friend's home in London and the challenge of creating a series of songs that all bleed together into one. The hallmarks of great writing and musicianship that fans have come to expect from the band are both here, but after nearly 30 years of making records, Butter Miracle Suite One shows us that Counting Crows are still very much a relevant band today that continues to push themselves in creatively new ways. More about Katie Mullins: Nominated for both the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net multiple times. Katie has been published or has work forthcoming in journals like Barrelhouse, The Rumpus, Iron Horse, Harpur Palate, and Prime Number. She is also the executive writer for Underwater Sunshine Fest, a music festival created by Adam Duritz in NYC, and her first book, Neuro,Typical: Chemical Reactions & Trauma Bonds came out on Summer Camp Press in Late 2020. You can find her on Twitter at @katie_underwatersunshine and she's always happy to talk about music and constantly looking for someone else's favorite band. She'd love to know yours! | 2h 14m 33s | ||||||
| 9/1/21 | ![]() Harvey Danger - Little by Little (A deep dive with the artist Sean Nelson) (2005) | For his next pick of an album that has "been around awhile," Trevor selects Harvey Danger's third and final album, "Little by Little." Shane and Trevor are fortunate to have lead singer and talented writer Sean Nelson along for the track-by-track deep dive of this amazing album, a favorite of Trevor's since he first heard it in college and remains so today. If you only know Harvey Danger by their hit song "Flagpole Sitta" from the late 90's, you truly missed out on one of the most underrated bands from that era. Sean details the origin of the band, their disoriented quick rise to international fame, and reveals the history of what transpired between each of their albums. They also discuss the decision to release this album for free online, which was truly a cutting edge decision in 2005 (Radiohead may or may not have copied them), and the eventual decision that Harvey Danger had reached its finish line. Sean was incredibly generous with his time and shed valuable insight on lyrics Trevor had been pouring over for more than a decade...murdering his time in cold blood. | 2h 57m 10s | ||||||
