| 12/15/25 | 306 - Bad Mutha: Owning and Disowning Mom Guilt (Replay) | Merch and apparel is now available through an exclusive collaboration with Confetti & Cloth Boutique! Comfortable and stylish sweatshirts, hats, coffee mugs, and more! Available while supplies last. Find them on Instagram, Facebook, and their website! This week, Jill brings back one of the most downloaded episodes in the history of the show, episode 15 titled "Bad Mutha" from 2020, long before she really had any idea what this podcast would become. She shares how she didn't reread or rework it and how that is honestly part of the point. She was overwhelmed, anxious, and convinced that she was screwing everything up as a mom, but now, five years later, after a whole lot of therapy, journaling, and soul-searching, she has realized that the guilt that she felt then is the same guilt so many of us are still carrying now. In this replay episode, you will hear Jill wrestle with the old stories that she used to tell herself such as the story that she was a bad mom, that every mistake was permanent, that other mothers were doing it "right" while she was just keeping her head above water. You'll also hear the moments that still tug at her heart such as the night that she chose a spotless kitchen over watching a Star Wars movie with her daughter, memories that she has replayed endlessly as if punishing herself could rewrite them. However, this episode is about naming what's actually underneath mom guilt: perfectionism, comparison, and the old wounds which we drag into adulthood without even realizing it. It's about understanding why we cling to the belief that we're failing, even when the evidence says otherwise, and it is, of course, about the uncomfortable truth that guilt doesn't make us better mothers; it only teaches our kids to carry the same shame that we're trying to outrun. Jill encourages listeners to remember that every parent has their private struggles, no matter how shiny their family looks from the outside. Every child grows through their own challenges, and every mother, whether she believes it or not, is doing the absolute best she can with the tools that she has, so if mom guilt has been background noise for you or if you're ready to let go of the impossible standards that have followed you for years, this revisited episode will meet you exactly where you are! Also, don't forget - Jill will be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering a deep dive into self-discovery. Head to jillherman.com for more details! Show Notes: [1:31] - This episode is a replay of episode 15 of the podcast, titled "Bad Mutha." [5:04] - This episode is all about mom guilt. [7:11] - Jill admits that she long believed that guilt made her a bad mother. [10:54] - Jill realized that her "bad mom" narrative was not offering her truth. [13:32] - Jill shares a story of how a missed movie with her daughter still reminds her of how her anxiety misguides choices. [15:58] - Unspoken stress led Jill's daughter to feel disappointed and hurt. [17:20] - Jill recognizes that her haunting memories are exaggerated guilt that she can't rewrite. [20:07] - Perfection is impossible, and self punishing stories aren't reality. [22:11] - Hear how Jill realized that unresolved personal issues amplified comparison and perfectionism, intensifying guilt unnecessarily. [24:29] - Jill rewrote her story, collecting evidence of love to take on guilt and perfectionism. [26:59] - Comparing ourselves to other parents steals our peace because everyone struggles behind closed doors. [28:46] - Jill discusses how perfectionism exploits unresolved wounds, making parents feel inadequate despite their efforts. [30:37] - Healing needs to involve inward reflection, honest conversations, apologies, and self-forgiveness to move forward. [33:09] - Jill argues that real mothering comes from self-healing, not guilt, so that children experience joy and wholeness. [35:13] - Hear how observing a highly present mother reignited Jill's anxieties, despite her own progress in parenting. [37:10] - Jill chose self forgiveness after realizing that her parenting evidence showed love rather than failure. [39:07] - Jill reminds parents that their guilt reflects perfectionism, not the reality of their kids' futures. [42:11] - Jill found freedom by accepting her children's independence and releasing expectations driven by perfectionism. [45:52] - Kids' choices reflect their own paths, not parental failure or shame. [49:34] - Jill encourages moms listening to journal guilt and affirm their worth on a daily basis. [53:04] - Jill also encourages sharing these reflections with friends! | 12/8/25 | 305 - Making YOUR List, Checking It Twice | Merch and apparel is now available through an exclusive collaboration with Confetti & Cloth Boutique for Black Friday! Comfortable and stylish sweatshirts, hats, coffee mugs, and more! Available while supplies last. Find them on Instagram and Facebook! Join Jill this week as she invites you to slow down with her - not "when things calm down" but right now, in these last days of the year. She kicks things off by sharing a few recent reviews that genuinely meant the world to her, including reflections from women who joined her at the recent BeYOULive event in October. Their words remind her why she shows up every week with no script, no notes, and ultimately no plan other than to be fully present and fully herself. When it comes to this episode's conversation, if you have listened to episodes 299, 301, 303, 304, and now 305, then you have likely already realized that Jill has wandered a bit into an accidental mini-series. Nothing was outlined ahead of time, yet each episode has been building on the last, first exploring what we want to feel, then what we don't want to carry into the holidays, and now shifting into something more concrete. What do you actually want to do with the rest of this month - not for your kids, not for your spouse, not for the thousand invisible jobs you take on. What do you want? Jill also shares her own words for the season - joy and, unexpectedly, "Christmas," which means something to her that she couldn't explain even if she tried. She then walks listeners through a simple practice of writing a list by hand of everything that you personally want to experience in December. They can be big things, tiny things, silly things, meaningful things, etc. Afterwards, choose five non-negotiables, things that are absolutely happening no matter what - whether the month goes smoothly or, as Jill's mom would say, "goes to hell in a handbasket." From there, Jill guides you through bringing your chosen word into each experience, documenting it, and actually acknowledging how it feels to finally put yourself back on your own list. Jill is even doing this with you herself, so if December has flown by too many years in a row, this episode is your invitation to claim even a few moments that are entirely, unapologetically yours! Also, don't forget - Jill will be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering a deep dive into self-discovery. Head to jillherman.com for more details! Show Notes: [1:58] - Jill shares a couple of positive reviews left by listeners recently. [4:04] - Jill has realized that her recent unplanned episodes formed a mini-series building toward concrete December actions. [5:36] - Jill chooses "joy" and "Christmas" as her words and en listeners to handwrite a personal December list. [8:01] - Jill encourages listeners to list personal December wishes and to then choose five non-negotiable experiences for themselves. [11:56] - Jill encourages documenting each activity and taking note of how it felt to finally prioritize yourself. [13:07] - Listeners are asked to honor their chosen experiences and to reflect on choosing themselves. | 12/1/25 | 304 - The Last 30 Days of the Year? What? | Merch and apparel is now available through an exclusive collaboration with Confetti & Cloth Boutique for Black Friday! Comfortable and stylish sweatshirts, hats, coffee mugs, and more! Available while supplies last. Find them on Instagram and Facebook! Listen in this week as Jill takes listeners into the final stretch of 2025! With only thirty days left in the Year of the Snake (a year defined by shedding, releasing, and uncomfortable but necessary evolution), she invites everyone to step into December with intention, and she reminds longtime listeners that her annual December 29th ritual is coming: a fresh, guided closing of the year that includes a meditation and a revisit of the photos on your camera roll. Before that episode gets here, though, Jill returns to conversations from the past few weeks, revisiting the work around holiday expectations, letting go of traditions and obligations that drain us, and imagining the season the way we've always wished it could feel. She loops back to exercises around the worries we speak aloud without realizing how much weight they carry, especially when directed at the people we love under the guise of "concern." Jill takes this concept even further, proposing a simple but effective system: two jars - one for every spoken worry, criticism, or fear masquerading as care and one for every moment we consciously choose the opposite. There is no punishment or shame, just visibility, honesty, and reinforcement. She reveals how this practice exposes the stories we cling to like childhood security blankets and how shifting those stories changes far more than our mood; it affects our energy, our relationships, and the tone of our entire day. Via personal reflection and practical suggestions, Jill encourages listeners to clean up their emotional and energetic space now, not in January. December can be steady, clear, and intentional if we're willing to actually work with what comes to the surface and allow yourself to feel everything. Also, don't forget - Jill will be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering a deep dive into self-discovery. Head to jillherman.com for more details! Show Notes: [1:27] - Jill urges listeners to end December intentionally and skip traditional resolutions for a gentler New Year. [4:05] - Jill revisits last episode's holiday exercise returns so that we can recommit to letting go of fear and instead choosing joy. [6:51] - Jill suggests tip-jar "games" to curb speech that is based on fear and to reward healthier patterns. [9:18] - Hear how embodiment helps reduce worry by replacing mental loops with grounded nervous-system habits. [11:41] - Jill explains how childhood conditioning makes toxic behavior feel familiar, creating looped patterns as an adult. [14:44] - Negative talk influences your health, relationships, and the energy that you broadcast. [16:49] - Hear how December sometimes causes old pain to resurface. [19:34] - Jill's advice is to allow yourself to feel everything fully while balancing joy and grief without being overwhelmed. [21:23] - Jill recommends a morning gratitude prayer to feel joy and holiday presence. [25:13] - Jill recaps the episode's themes and invites listeners to shape their month with intention! | 11/24/25 | 303 - Rewriting the Script for the Holidays | Merch and apparel is now available through an exclusive collaboration with Confetti & Cloth Boutique for Black Friday! Comfortable and stylish sweatshirts, hats, coffee mugs, and more! Available while supplies last. Find them on Instagram and Facebook! The holiday season is here, and Jill is also here to share her thoughts on how to avoid the holiday season being the stressful period that you probably believe it to be. Focusing particularly on Thanksgiving in the United States, she directly challenges listeners, stating that if you are tired of doing the holidays the same way every year, then it is you who has the power to make a change! Jill encourages listeners to examine your holiday routines and question whether those routines are truly serving you, and she cautions against falling into patterns of resentment, self-sacrifice, and victimhood. Jill also walks listeners through a quiet exercise to reconnect with yourselves through breath, body awareness, and intuitive movement. She suggests writing exercises to uncover what you no longer want to participate in during the holidays and then to envision your ideal holiday experience. Jill stresses the importance of believing that you deserve this, being open to receiving it, and committing to holding onto that vision. While Jill acknowledges that making changes to holiday traditions may be difficult and cause conflict with family members, she also highlights the fact that with love, clarity, and compromise, you can rewrite the holiday narrative in a way that serves you, and she encourages listeners to have the courage to say no, set boundaries, and prioritize your own needs and desires! Jill ultimately wraps it all up by expressing her belief that when listeners stop making yourselves last on the list, the holiday season will look very different (and better) than years past, and she reminds listeners that you have the power to create the holiday experience that you truly want! Also, don't forget - Jill will be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering a deep dive into self-discovery. Head to jillherman.com for more details! Show Notes: [1:36] - Jill welcomes listeners and reminds them they already contain their best selves. [4:44] - Hear Jill discuss her raw, unscripted approach to the podcast. [6:51] - Jill urges women to claim their agency and to stop repeating holiday "obligations" that drain them. [8:59] - Unspoken resentment can destroy relationships. [11:16] - Jill invites listeners to find quiet pauses to reconnect with the body and inner guidance. [13:32] - Jill describes building intuition via silence, body awareness, and gentle movement free of judgment. [16:35] - Jill encourages listeners to free-write holiday boundaries to release tension. [19:29] - Hear how imagining detailed, desire-filled holiday scenarios increases the likelihood of you eventually creating them. [22:19] - Jill highlights the importance of claiming permission, deserving joy, and welcoming a holiday experience that you truly want! [25:29] - Jill encourages rewriting holiday patterns via boundaries, self-worth, and intentional loving action. | 11/17/25 | 302 - Hijacking or Being Heard? How to Know the Difference | Join Jill this week as she discusses the difference between someone feeling truly heard versus someone hijacking a group setting. She uses the example of a Zoom call in which two participants dominated the conversation, going on lengthy tangents instead of following the facilitator's instructions. Jill offers the possibility that such behavior is not meant to be malicious and discusses some possible reasons for it, including nervous system dysregulation, ego protection, and general lack of self-awareness. As the leader of a group, Jill stresses the importance of politely yet firmly redirecting someone who is monopolizing time and energy in order to maintain the structure of the container for the entire group, and she provides some specific suggestions for how to handle these situations with compassion. Jill also touches on the holiday season quickly approaching and promises to share tools and strategies in an upcoming episode to help listeners navigate family dynamics and personal boundaries during this time of year! She also spends a little bit of time discussing the recent in-person BeYOULive event which was the 300th episode of the podcast. She describes how she forgot to give away two of the raffle prizes at the event and reveals the winners in this episode of the show! After spinning the virtual prize wheel, Jill announces the winners of the 5-month house cleaning service and the $1,500 dinner at her favorite local restaurant! Also, don't forget - Jill will be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering a deep dive into self-discovery. Head to jillherman.com for more details! Show Notes: [01:27] - Jill emphasizes the fact that her podcast centers on self-worth and has naturally evolved into mostly solo episodes. [03:31] - Jill reflects on having hosted her recent first ever live event. [06:55] - Jill announces prize winners from the recent BeYOULive event! [9:00] - Popular Be YOU merch, especially the green sweatshirts, will be sold through an upcoming boutique collaboration! [11:19] - Hear Jill read a recent glowing review from a listener. [12:44] - Jill is contrasting being heard with hijacking a space after witnessing two men dominate their introductions in a Zoom meeting. [15:11] - Jill suggests that over-talking can stem from nervous-system dysregulation masquerading as control. [18:10] - Jill explains that performative over-talking often reflects insecurity, masking a need to feel relevant. [20:51] - Grounded people share concisely, unlike those compensating through dominance. [22:45] - Jill argues that leaders need to gently interrupt rambling participants to protect the group's structure. [25:11] - An effective leader prioritizes the group's container over one person's comfort or ego. [27:37] - Jill suggests that if the facilitator won't reestablish structure, you can respectfully interrupt to save time. [30:33] - Jill previews some upcoming lessons on aging, boundaries, and taking on holiday pressures with self-confidence. | 11/10/25 | 301 - Say It Differently, See It Differently | This week on Be YOU, join Jill as she revisits an exercise from two episodes ago in which listeners were asked to do a "brain dump" of their fears and worries and then rewrite/reframe them in positive ways. She encourages listeners to continue doing this exercise, even affirming that many people around the world are participating! The key part of the exercise now? As Jill explains, be aware of when you are speaking your fears and worries out loud, and immediately "flip the script" by saying the positive version out loud instead. Jill gives some examples, like if you find yourself complaining about someone being irresponsible, you could instead say out loud that they are learning and growing. She highlights that it's really important to say the positive version out loud and not just think it. Jill makes the argument that the words that we use have a lot of power and energy and that we often speak our fears and worries into existence without even realizing. By consciously flipping the script out loud, she reiterates, we can change the way we see the world and the people in it. Jill also takes a moment to plug a book written by a previous guest of the podcast, Lisa Morton – a book titled Aligned at Home: How Feng Shui and Holistic Design Can Restore Your Energy and Well-Being. Grab a copy here! Also, don't forget - Jill will be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering a deep dive into self-discovery. Head to jillherman.com for more details! Show Notes: [01:59] - Jill encourages listeners to leave podcast reviews, and she praises her hardworking editing team. [04:53] - Jill is revisiting episode 299, highlighting the power of words through a "flip-the-script" exercise. [07:03] - Listeners all over the world are encouraged to speak positivity out loud, recognizing how words manifest energy and truth. [09:22] - Jill advises literally "striking and reversing" negative self-talk by instead saying affirming statements aloud. [11:39] - Jill reflects on how speaking of our worries only reinforces negativity. [13:55] - Jill plugs the book Aligned at Home, written by previous guest Lisa Morton! | 11/4/25 | 300 - Live Recording from BEYOULive | Although she is in disbelief that she is finally saying this, welcome to the 300th episode of the Be YOU podcast! This week, Jill shares some highlights from the recent four-hour BeYOULive event where more than 150 women from around the world came together to celebrate 300 episodes and being themselves! At its heart, the event was really all about helping women let go of the "masks" they wear in everyday life - roles, behaviors, and ways that they see themselves that are preventing them from showing up as their true selves. Through a series of exercises, attendants, without shame or judgment, identified the masks that they tend to hide behind, wrote them down on actual masks, and then took them off as a symbolic act of release and self-reflection. Women were also encouraged to be vulnerable, share honestly, and lift each other up, with Jill highlighting choosing self-compassion over self-criticism (or the salve over the salt). Beyond the mask activity, the event included dancing/movement, journaling, and small group conversations, all designed to help the women reconnect with who they really are. Jill really highlights how powerful of an experience that it was, with women bravely having opened up about their various hopes and fears. Several women, for example, share their experiences with holding back from pursuing wants and desires out of fear - such as wanting to cut or even shave their hair but fearing that they don't have the "right" face for it. This was truly a memorable leg of the Be YOU journey for Jill, and she is sure that it was for most of the over 150 women who attended as well! That's why she wraps up with a VERY exciting announcement: she has changed her mind about not hosting a retreat to focus on her upcoming book! That's right – Jill WILL be hosting an upcoming retreat - the More of Me retreat - offering an even deeper dive into self-discovery, so be sure to tune in and head to jillherman.com for more details! SPECIAL THANKS TO: Pacula Diamonds, Surack Enterprises, Franklin Electric, Barrett McNagny LLP, Coletech Quality Woodworking Inc., Tolon Restaurant, Waddell & Associates, & Wilcox & Associates Show Notes: [1:27] - Jill is celebrating the podcast's 300th episode, thanking loyal listeners worldwide for embracing the podcast. She stresses that while this episode is primarily for listeners who are definitely going to the event, everyone else is invited to listen as well in case you're on the fence about whether or not you want to go and/or just want an idea of the energy and atmosphere that will be experienced at the event. Jill encourages listeners to find ways to seek out the same sense of authenticity, connection, and support that will be present at the event, whether it be through creating your own gatherings or your own social circles, and she stresses that the event is about dropping masks, letting go of competition and comparison, and simply being yourself! For those who are attending the event, listen in as Jill provides some helpful details, from the event schedule to the dress code (which is essentially no dress code at all). She promises attendees that the event is designed to make them feel safe, seen, and held, without any pressure for vulnerability or deep work beyond what they are comfortable with. She also shares her vision for the event, a place where women can simply be themselves without feeling a need to perform or impress. Ultimately, Jill invites listeners to fully embrace the opportunity, whether attending the event or finding ways to create a similar experience in your own lives, and she passionately encourages an attitude of openness, surrender, and trust in the process as she promises that the event will be a transformative and literally unique experience! Join Jill for a short and sweet episode this week as she discusses the importance of being mindful of our words. She invites listeners to join her in a special exercise over the next few weeks, explaining that she feels called to do a "tuneup," or a period of self-reflection and reprogramming of her mindset. Jill encourages listeners to make a thorough list of all their worries, fears, and negative thought patterns. After releasing that via writing, she suggests connecting with nature, doing some movement and breathwork, and then reframing those negative thoughts into positive affirmations. Jill highlights the power of our words and how they can shape our reality, sharing some examples of how speaking positively, even exaggeratedly, about relationships and situations can help manifest that reality. Listeners are invited to write out these positive affirmations, display them, and read them aloud daily, connecting to a higher power or their own inner wisdom! Jill reveals how she plans to do this exercise alongside listeners over the next two months, sharing the changes that she notices not just in herself but also in the people and circumstances around her. She encourages listeners to make this practice their own and trust their intuition. Jill also, of course, reminds listeners that there are still tickets available for the upcoming live 300th episode event! Get your ticket now before it's too late! Show Notes: [01:28] - It's nearly the 300th episode of the podcast! [02:53] - Hear why this is a shorter episode than usual. [05:45] - Jill encourages writing a handwritten list of every fear, then grounding through movement and nature. [10:46] - Jill also encourages listeners to thank the universe as if their desires already exist. [12:39] - Everything is energy, including words. Jill spends some time this week reflecting on some of the lessons that she has been learning as she plans her upcoming event celebrating 300 episodes of the podcast! She gets into the personal growth that she has experienced via planning this event, acknowledging her tendency to take on too much responsibility and do everything herself, even though this often leads to burnout and resentment. However, after realizing that she was slipping back into this pattern as she planned the event, Jill had an epiphany - the true lesson was not about her own limitations but about fully surrendering and trusting that the universe will provide what is needed, so rather than trying to force herself to sell every single ticket, Jill has decided to let go and allow the seats to fill organically. She declares that there will be 200 women in that room, and she is going to "dance, breathe, sound bathe" her way to that outcome, rather than grinding and hustling. Jill also shares that this event is not just for the attendees but is also a gift to herself, acknowledging that she has often put others' needs before her own. She invites listeners who may also struggle with holding too much responsibility to reflect on their own patterns, and consider how they can let go and allow the universe to support them! This event is going to be a coming home to yourself, AND a lot of fun. xoJill Join Jill this week as she discusses the upcoming Be YOU event called "Be You Live" which is celebrating its five-year anniversary and 300th episode! Jill acknowledges that this event may not be for everyone, as our nervous systems can sometimes try to prevent us from doing things that will expand and challenge us, but she encourages listeners to truly listen to their intuition to determine if this event is right for them in spite of any doubts or excuses their mind may come up with. Jill also spends time this episode discussing her perspective on true friendship, describing the type of deep, authentic friendships that she has built upon – ones in which there is radical honesty, vulnerability, and a willingness to challenge each other to grow – and she contrasts this with more surface-level friendships that avoid difficult conversations. Jill shares her own experience of having to have a "clearing conversation" with someone she cares about but ultimately having realized that they were not meant to be close friends. She highlights the importance of shedding relationships that no longer serve us but doing so with self-compassion rather than judgment. Jill ultimately encourages listeners to reflect on the quality of your own friendships and your relationships with yourselves, suggesting journaling, self-reflection, and allowing yourselves to fully feel emotions as ways to pave the way for the type of meaningful connections she talks about in this episode, believing that when we can be that kind of friend to ourselves, we will attract those kinds of friendships with others! Show Notes: [01:31] - Jill is urging listeners to overcome fear that's preventing growth and attend the upcoming Be YOU event! [04:35] - She challenges the idea that self-sacrifice is noble and insists that true belonging comes from being yourself. [07:20] - Real friendships mirror growth and honesty and first require self-acceptance. [10:04] - Jill teaches compassion toward yourself, and she notes how friendships reflect inner healing and might naturally dissolve. [13:12] - Jill accepts that not all connections align, affirming her high standards. [15:43] - Jill values friendships with honesty and sincere feedback. [18:25] - True friendships, Jill insists, honor authenticity and the highest self, not old wounds from childhood trauma. She reflects on her very engaged, "sticky" audience that listens from start to finish each week, recognizing that Be YOU listeners have very much become a community. Jill also reflects on how she used to obsess over download numbers and metrics until realizing that focusing on those who aren't listening takes away from fully appreciating those who are. She now instead measures the podcast's success by how much joy, inspiration and transformation it brings to her listeners! She also gets vulnerable, sharing that there are times when she doesn't feel fully energized or present for an episode, but she chooses to show up authentically rather than strive for perfection. You can also expect to hear Jill further discuss her upcoming Be YOU live event, sharing some of the lessons that she is learning through the planning process, even when things don't go as expected! Jill is so excited but also feeling the pressure of planning this large event on her own, and she shares that she's learned some valuable lessons, such as how it's okay to jump in even if you haven't spent much time in the "kiddie pool" before. Jill is asking for help from her listeners, inviting a select group of her most dedicated podcast fans to a special birthday celebration dinner for the 5-year anniversary of the Be You podcast. To be considered, listeners should email Jill and share the impact the podcast has had on them. She is asking listeners to record a short video talking about how the podcast has made a difference, which she plans to use at the event and for other promotions. The event itself promises to be an expansive experience, not a deep transformational one. Jill states that attendees will be beautifully reminded of not just who you are, but how freaking amazing you really are, and topics will include people-pleasing, perfectionism, comparison, and the connection between our inner selves and our leadership/work lives. She shares how surrendering to what is allowed her to maintain confidence, trust the process, and step into her role as the host of a powerful, transformative event for women. Listeners will also get a behind-the-scenes look at the Be YOU live event on October 25th, which will of course mark the 300th episode of the show, truly a rare milestone in podcasting. Jill breaks down the tiered ticket pricing, VIP sellouts, discounted hotel rooms, and the opportunity to connect with other women from across the U.S. and Canada before the event, and she also highlights what attendees can expect, including a space for reclamation, reconnection, celebration, and authentic self-expression without religious overtones or forced activities. This episode of the podcast is all about showing up for yourself even when life is messy, holding space for others while trusting your own power, and embracing the art of the "both/and conversation" - feeling deeply while surrendering to what is.
