When stored properly, wheat berries can last decades and still bake beautifully. Short Term and Everyday Grain Storage For daily or weekly bakers, convenience and freshness matter most. Glass jars with tight sealing lids work best for short term storage up to three months. Keep them in a cool, dry cabinet away from heat and humidity. Fresh wheat should smell sweet and nutty. If it smells musty, it has absorbed moisture and should not be used.
