| 5/5/26 | ![]() A Court of Silver Flames Chapters 43-50: Nesta Tells Feyre About the Baby | Dive into our literary analysis of A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas, the bestselling author behind the global phenomenon A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR). In this season, we break down ACOSF through an academic lens, using our combined 13 years of literary training to analyze Nesta Archeron’s character arc, Cassian and Nesta’s relationship, and the deeper themes driving Sarah J. Maas’s storytelling. We explore key elements of the novel, including symbolism, metaphor, imagery, and character development, while examining major A Court of Silver Flames themes like trauma, healing, power, and transformation within the ACOTAR series. Spoilers: This episode contains full spoilers for A Court of Silver Flames, the entire ACOTAR series (A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and Frost and Starlight). Any other books or larger Sarah J. Maas universe theories and connections will be discussed in a separate Breadcrumbs and Broomsticks episode. Chapters Summary: Cassian and Nesta travel to the Spring Court to deliver news to Eris about his fallen soldiers. Tamlin discovers them during their tense exchange, and Nesta unleashes her anger at all he had done to her family. Back at the House of Wind, Nesta begins to feel something like home, until she learns that the Inner Circle debated whether to inform her of the Made weapons she’d forged, sending her spiraling down the 10,000 steps and back into Velaris in a fury. Nesta confronts Amren in a brutal, honest fight, and when Feyre tries to intervene, Nesta releases her rage at Feyre, telling her the truth about her pregnancy. Rhys, incensed, orders Nesta removed from the city. Cassian takes her deep into the mountains, where the wilderness and terrain strip away every defense she has left. On the shores of a mountain lake, Nesta finally breaks, confronting her guilt over Feyre, Elain, her father, and herself, while Cassian braves the storm. Each week, we ask ourselves a question: How do we feel about Nesta’s breakdown? Was it earned? | 4/16/26 | ![]() Pride and Prejudice - Literacy | Welcome to Academia Unlocked, our new literary deep-dive series on Book Talk for BookTok! In this episode, we kick off our Pride and Prejudice series and discuss literary literacy. With over 13 years of combined academic training in literature and creative writing, we walk listeners through the foundational tools of reading beyond the surface. The book community talks about the “decline of literacy” constantly, but almost no one stops to define what literary literacy actually is, or how to build it. This series exists to change that. We start by pushing back on the most common read of Pride and Prejudice: that it’s a charming romance about a witty woman who ends up with a brooding rich man. We explore how the novel is doing something far more precise, functioning as a social satire with surgical irony, a study in the performance of class and gender, and a text that rewards close reading on nearly every page. Whether you’ve read Pride and Prejudice five times or are coming to it fresh, this episode will give you the critical lens to engage with it (and any book) with more depth, more confidence, and a lot more to say. Refusing to eat and train, she uses her words like knives to show her displeasure, especially with Cassian, whose patience starts to crack under the constant rejection. At Windhaven, Nesta humiliates the general in front of his fellow Illyrians as she drowns in hauntings from the Cauldron and her father’s death. Meanwhile, Cassian is forced into political games with Eris and the Band of Exiles, leaving him feeling outmatched and raw. Although the tension between Nesta and Cassian comes to a head, which sends both into a tailspin, Nesta finds unexpected sparks of connection in her meetings with Emerie and Gwyn. | 3/19/26 | ![]() Academia Unlocked: Wuthering Heights - Literacy | Welcome to the first episode of Academia Unlocked, our new literary deep-dive series on Book Talk for BookTok! In this episode, we begin with literary literacy through Wuthering Heights, building the foundation for how to approach, understand, and engage with complex literature. With over 13 years of academic training in literature and creative writing, we guide listeners through the essential tools of reading beyond the surface. Because while the book community often talks about the decline of literacy, very few conversations actually define what literary literacy is, or how to develop it. This series is designed to change that. We start by challenging common misconceptions about Wuthering Heights. Often labeled as a tragic romance, we explore how the novel functions instead as a psychological study of obsession, identity, and emotional intensity, reframing the story as something far more unsettling than romantic. From there, we introduce key context surrounding the novel’s 1847 publication, its place within the Gothic tradition, and why it shocked Victorian readers who expected moral clarity and social order. Whether you’ve read Wuthering Heights before or are encountering it for the first time, this episode will help you build the skills to approach literature with more confidence, clarity, and depth. In Episode 2, we move into college-level literary analysis, where we’ll explore what these patterns mean and how to interpret the novel through deeper critical lenses. Chapters Summary: Nesta Archeron is forced into the Cauldron during the war with Hyburn, and instead of breaking she steals power back, and is forever changed. Months later when the war is over, she lives alone in a shabby Velaris apartment, spiraling through wine, one-night stands, and isolation to drown out her guilt and trauma. When Cassian shows up to drag her to the River House, Nesta expects judgment, but does not anticipate Feyre’s ultimatum: move to the House of Wind, train with Cassian, and work in the library—or be shipped off to the human lands. Cornered and furious, Nesta agrees, feeling stripped of control all over again. Meanwhile, in addition to his duties as general and training Nesta, Cassian is tasked with a new role he feels ill-suited to accept: playing courtier. What is the balance of character development versus plot-driven narrative in Silver Flames, and how does this compel the reader to feel about Nesta’s journey? Sloan to discuss her debut YA fantasy novel, The Ruins Beneath Us.
