We're back for the conclusion of the greatest story ever told! Good news! Jonathan's manky kip of a house is finally being cleaned. Bad news! The cleaning is being done by our beloved Goth Enid, who doesn't cover herself in glory in this book by (a) doing Jonathan's housework in a pathetic and ill-fated attempt to win his heart and (b) not caring at all about the murder of poor expendable Katrina. Of course, neither does Jessica, who sees Katrina's funeral as an opportunity to "treat herself" to a new outfit (yes, she's in Jonathan's thrall in this book but this is also classic Jessica behaviour). We don't want to be hyperbolic, but this might be the greatest book ever written. It's got history's least charismatic and sexy vampire! It's got a literally crumbling gothic mansion! It's got Alice and Ned getting pissed at the café theatre! It's got Jessica punching a locker in a fit of rage!
