Hello beautiful people, we are back! I know it's been some time, but we had to take care of some thangs! This episode of Everythang Culture is a light one. It is also not safe for work #NSFW. This is a Podfam special with Chan, Baylor, and myself. It was meant to be a Christmas special to discuss our New Year's resolutions, what we're thankful for, how 2024 treated us, and what we're looking forward to in 2025. But when I tell you, it just went off the rails and... Yeah, you just gotta tune in! This episode is titled Shits and Giggles because that is precisely what it was! Honestly, with everything that's happening right now in this country, the turmoil, the stress, the bills, the price of food, the tragedies, the fires, the freezes, you name it. I'm thankful to have the community that I have, or we can enjoy one another and just kick back and laugh about anything. Hopefully, you can do the same. We appreciate your support. Hello, beautiful people! In this week's Makings of You, we would like to introduce you all to Kenneth or Big Kenn. Kenn is from Indianapolis and is truly a family man. Kenn is a Black man from a traditional two-parent, two-sibling family. He has a strong bond with his community and is a follower of Christ. He is also a Philadelphia Eagles fan. Kia's journey is one of incredible resilience and transformation. Growing up in foster care, she faced unimaginable challenges, including trauma and the harsh realities of being a family outcast. Despite these hardships, she vowed to break the cycle for her children. Kia fought her way through domestic violence and emerged stronger, driven by her desire to create a safe and loving environment. She completed her college education, defying the odds stacked against her, and secured a fulfilling career that reflects her dedication and hard work. Relocating to provide her kids with a fresh start, Kia instills in them the values of strength, compassion, and perseverance. Her story is not just one of survival; it’s a testament to the power of determination and the profound impact of a mother's love, inspiring her children to strive for their dreams and build their futures.

In her Makings of You episode, Linda shares her southern Oklahoma upbringing, discovering her queer identity, non-profit leadership, journey with food insecurity, and overall great personality. Linda has dedicated 30+ years of experience working in the hunger solutions non-profit field, including 25 years as CEO of Food Lifeline in Seattle and a member of the Feeding America national network of food banks, state associations, pantries, and meal programs. She is passionate about the power of collaboration, holds a deep commitment to centering racial equity as foundational to ending hunger, and believes fervently that all people should have access to the food they need not just to live – but to thrive. We met Linda as our CEO during our employment in Seattle, WA. Linda showed compassion, leadership, professionalism, and genuine empathy for the organization’s mission. Since starting at Food Lifeline, Linda has led the organization as it grew from a small nonprofit to a vibrate, thriving hunger relief organization providing nutritious, culturally relevant food throughout the community, supporting and advancing community-based initiatives that reduce food insecurity, and addressing the root causes of hunger and food insecurity through policy advocacy. In 2010, Feeding America recognized her as the executive director of the year 2010. Nageotte was named a John van Hengel Fellow in 2012, an award recognizing a network food bank executive for excellence in leadership, local impact and national influence, and entrepreneurial spirit in hunger relief. Before Food Lifeline, Nageotte served as the executive director for Harvest Against Hunger and Sojourners Alliance. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and completed graduate coursework in counseling at Washington State University. This episode was recorded in October 2023 in Seattle, WA. One week before, she relocated to Chicago, IL, to begin her position at Feeding America, and one week before, we relocated back to Houston, TX.
