What happens when paradise becomes too popular? For Angus Hamilton, who has lived in Phuket since age three, the transformation of his childhood island is both fascinating and bittersweet. Beaches that once took 20 minutes to reach now require 90 minutes in traffic, and quiet shores are lined with sunbeds, umbrellas, and constant jet ski noise.Growing up half-Thai in Phuket's international school system created a unique cultural dilemma for Angus. Despite his Thai heritage, he moved through childhood unable to speak his mother's language fluently — something he now describes as "a massive regret."
