| 4/23/24 | ![]() Ep. 16 Case Review: PANDAS, dyslexia, behavioral concerns and how functional medicine helped | In this episode of Functional Medicine in Real Life, we interview one of our patients and she shares how Functional Medicine has helped her as well as her children. She originally sought out our help to address her own autoimmune concerns as well as joint pain, fatigue and hormone imbalance. Through her journey, we have addressed her hormones, adrenal fatigue and we have identified and are treating reactivated Epstein Barr Virus and Lyme disease which is part of her root cause to her autoimmune concerns. In this episode, she also shares developmental and behavioral concerns she had about her twin daughters. She began noticing one of her daughters was struggling with reading which led to dyslexia and Irlens diagnosis. She was amazed to find that addressing her daughter's gut infections and adding various missing nutrients had a positive impact on her daughter's learning and development. Later, she noticed her other daughter began developing OCD behaviors and Tics after an acute event of strep throat which prompted a diagnosis of PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus).
