Golf Is Ruining My Life

A genuinely miserable 72 hours in our golfing lives. TP bent the entire world to get to the medal (dog walked, kids’ football sorted, chipping practised) and then shot 15 over, went in six bunkers, lost a ball under a bridge in three feet of leaves and announced on the fifth that he was going home. 😩 TG wasn’t faring much better: three points after five holes on the Sunday roll up, up at 6am, and texting TP “I want to die forever” from the tee. Then he stopped caring entirely, played the last eleven holes in one over, won the back nine and walked off with £50 in cash. Make it make sense. Which leads us to the big question: why do we do this to ourselves every single time? Expectation ruins it, not caring fixes it, and yet we never learn. There’s also a proper lesson in here about aiming for the middle of the green, why your short game is really just an insurance policy, and the one shot on a blow-up hole that nobody ever thinks about. Plus bunker season is upon us, the return of the Ping bunker club, and a tease about the ping i210s. 👀 New Littlestone video drops Sunday and the ending is worth it. Go and subscribe on YouTube, and we’re agonisingly close to 1,000 Spotify reviews. Alright Par Pals 👋 TP is hungover (rocky roads until midnight, which is well past his self-imposed 9pm "middle aged midnight") and TG has been up since six with coffee, so the energy levels are wildly mismatched this morning. Sorry in advance. ☕ We also do the worst piece of maths in golf: take your annual membership subs, divide by twelve, and discover exactly what each round is costing you. Wentworth members, look away. 😩 Plus how much a Saturday roll up should actually cost, and a genuine business idea for anyone who fancies building it. Alright Par Pals 👋 TP is hungover and has a speed awareness course to get to, so this is a brisk one. But there's a genuinely good lesson in it: when you're playing well, do NOT take your foot off the gas. Attack, attack, attack. TG shot 79 yesterday, his first round in the 70s in months, and the two holes where he got defensive cost him everything. We also get into the handicap divisions debate again, because it turns out the answer might be Stableford points. Plus, how golf runs in families (and the people who've somehow caught it alone), the unmatched joy of transferring everything into a brand new bag 🎒 Also, we're agonisingly close to 1,000 Spotify reviews. Five stars would be lovely. ⭐ EGYPT TRIP (15th -19th Nov we'll be there) 🐪⛳ - https://www.golfbreaks.com/en-gb/holidays/cairo/hilton-pyramids-golf-resort/packages/7dc84fcf-8016-4e82-8207-cb000d42ddf0/ And the limited edition GREY hoodies Email - [email protected] Discord  Tik Tok  Youtube  Merch Learn more about your ad choices. Alright Par Pals Max emails in with a proper gut-punch of a round at the Rolls of Monmouth (a course he only played because of this podcast, which we're still not over). Three under with one to play, a par needed for a 69, and then Noel Fielding turns up uninvited on the 18th tee. What follows is a seven iron rocketed 50 yards right into a river. His reaction is the entire lesson. We also get into the annual membership renewal punch in the guts 💸 (TP has done the maths on what each round actually costs him and immediately regretted it), and TG has found driver again simply by slowing down for the first three holes. Plus, why we all play better at a course we've never seen before, advice for Ben whose mate shoots ten shots better than everyone and still moans about it, and TP opens a Hoover bag live on air because the content well is officially dry. 🧹 TOMORROW: the final episode of Talk Birdie To Me season one EGYPT TRIP (15th -19th Nov we'll be there) 🐪⛳ - https://www.golfbreaks.com/en-gb/holidays/cairo/hilton-pyramids-golf-resort/packages/7dc84fcf-8016-4e82-8207-cb000d42ddf0/ And the limited edition GREY hoodies Email - [email protected] Discord  Tik Tok  Youtube  Merch Learn more about your ad choices. Alright Par Pals 👋 Well, we've done it now. TG's take on The Belfry has genuinely split our socials down the middle, to the point where a professional golfer messaged him to have a go about it. So we're going back in properly: what The Belfry actually is, what it isn't, and why the whole debate keeps getting attacked from both sides at once. ⛳ TG has also found a brand new swing icon and you will absolutely not guess who it is. Here's a clue: very posh, very Scottish, all over your socials right now. 🏌️ Plus Shane Lowry's stunning Irish Open win, a lovely email from Dan who's mapped every golf course in the UK to its nearest train station 🚂, and a full confession: we've deleted all our old emails, so if you write in now you're basically guaranteed to get on the show. We're back from a couple of weeks off (and broadcasting from a brand new house with no internet, filmed on a phone, so apologies in advance 😅). TG got to play the pro-am at Centurion and came back with the stories to prove it. He was paired with Shannon Tan, who'd finished sixth at the Open four days earlier. We also get into the format that made the whole day , you'll want to steal this for your next golf trip. Plus, the story of Gary Player watching every single tee shot on 18, complimenting everyone, and then saying absolutely nothing when TG striped the best drive of his life. 😤 In the email corner, an American listener introduces us to Noel Fielding's cousin, a man proposes for his wife's hand on the 10th tee, and we give our best advice for finding your swing (and your confidence) again. ⛳ Email - [email protected] Discord  Tik Tok  Youtube  Merch Tour IGOLF Learn more about your ad choices. Alright Par Pals 👋 A sponsor-free, brought-to-you-by-YOU email corner this week, and it's a good one. We debate whether there's ever a circumstance where it's genuinely okay to be a bandit (Liam from Germany might just have found it), and marvel at the world's longest seven wood, a 250 yard freak shot across a cobblestone bridge that started a full-blown junior vs grumpy members war. 😤 We also get into the tragedy of the hole-in-one nobody can ever know about (anonymous snuck off work, and it might just be the darkest golf fear of all), our favourite non-instruction golf books, and an ongoing existential crisis about whether we've read these emails before. Plus, the Egypt work trip is happening in November and it turns out some of you are actually coming. The Link is here if you fancy it.
