How many podcast episodes have guests?
In a random sample of 30,049 English-language episodes published in 2026 and transcribed by CastFox, 40.5% include at least one guest, meaning a person other than the show's hosts. Across all languages the figure is 39.2%.
So the interview format is common but not the majority. Most episodes are host-only: solo shows, co-host conversations, narrative episodes, sermons and news rundowns.
Guest rates by genre
Interview-driven genres sit at the top. Science, Business, Arts shows bring in an outside voice in more than half of their episodes: researchers, founders, authors and artists explaining their work. News sits near the average at 40.3%, but there "guest" includes interview segments and clips, not only booked conversations. At the bottom, Fiction, Religion & Spirituality, Comedy shows are mostly built around the host's own content: stories, sermons or banter between regular co-hosts.
How many guests per episode
When an episode has a guest, it usually has exactly one. The average is 1.28 guests per guest episode, and 17% feature two or more, typically panels, roundtables and comedy shows with several comics.
The most-booked podcast guests of 2026
We counted how many different shows each person appeared on as a guest between January and September 2026. To keep the list honest, we only counted appearances where the guest's name is in the episode title, and we left out News and Government shows, where politicians mostly appear in clips and coverage rather than booked interviews.

The list is dominated by people with something new to talk about. Episode titles show several of the leaders on book tours: Eric Ries discussing Incorruptible, Nir Eyal on Beyond Belief and David Epstein on Inside the Box. By the genre of the shows they appeared on, Health & Fitness (7), Business (6), Comedy (5) are the largest groups in the top 25: health and longevity experts, business and self-improvement authors, and stand-up comedians.
What this means if you want to be a guest
- Pitch the genres that book guests. In Science, Business, Arts, more than half of episodes have a guest. In Fiction or Religion & Spirituality, most shows rarely book anyone, whatever your pitch.
- Have a hook. The most-booked guests are promoting a book, a special or a new idea. Hosts book a reason to talk, not just a résumé.
- Check the show first. A show's recent guest history tells you more than its genre. If it hasn't had a guest in months, it probably isn't looking.
CastFox's Guest Finder scores how open each show is to guests from its recent episodes, and finds shows that have booked guests like you. See also podcast guesting with CastFox.
Methodology
Source. Guests are identified automatically in episode transcripts. CastFox transcribes millions of episodes, and its AI pipeline labels each person in an episode as a host, a guest or someone only mentioned.
Guest rates. We took the random sample of the CastFox episode index used in our episode-length report, kept transcribed full episodes published January 1 – September 30, 2026 (41,696 episodes; 30,049 in English), excluded trailers and bonus episodes, and counted those with at least one person labelled as a guest. Genre is the show's primary Apple Podcasts category, and language is the feed's declared language.
Most-booked guests. From all 1,346,816 guest labels in the index, we kept English-language shows outside News and Government, full names only, and episodes published January–September 2026. We counted an appearance only when the guest's name also appears in the episode title, which strongly indicates an interview rather than a mention. We then reviewed the top of the list by hand and removed names that were commentary rather than interviews (one politician) or that clearly covered several different people (6 names). Shows = distinct podcasts.
Limits. Automated labelling can confuse a regular co-host with a guest, or miss a guest who is never introduced by name. The title rule undercounts appearances on shows that don't name guests in titles. Only transcribed episodes are covered, so the figures describe the CastFox sample, not every podcast.
