A group of dedicated veterinarians joined me to talk about the launch of the Homeopathic Veterinary Teaching Group (HVTG), a new training academy for vets who want to learn and practice homeopathy. We discussed some of the challenges facing the veterinary profession today and how homeopathy has helped many vets find renewed purpose and satisfaction in their work. With decades of clinical experience, he has also co-authored key texts in veterinary homeopathy and contributed widely to the field. His work focuses on helping vets apply homeopathic principles in practice while encouraging a more thoughtful, holistic approach to animal health. Barbara Jones is a veterinary surgeon with qualifications including BVMS, MRCVS, and VetMFHom, and she has built her career around integrating conventional veterinary medicine with complementary therapies, especially homeopathy. After qualifying in the UK, she went on to study at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and became a member of the Faculty of Homeopathy in 1992. In 1994, she established Oakwood Veterinary Centre, where she combines diagnostics and treatment with a holistic approach that includes homeopathy, acupuncture, nutrition, and herbal medicine. Want to learn more about holistic farming and food production systems that prioritize health? In today's episode with Pat, we will discuss how to support farmers who are looking for alternatives to synthetic chemicals, antibiotics, and artificial intervention, as well as how homeopathy can help farmers practice whole-health farming. Pat Aherne is a conventional farmer with an unconventional outlook. Pat is located on what is properly the last piece of farmland between Cork Airport and Cork City. He holds the title of being the last farmer in his parish of Ballyphehane, a once thriving farming community and home to the famous CMP Dairies. He owns a herd of 90 cows under the prefix AnnaMaria (named after his two daughters). Pat is the third generation on the farm. His grandmother bought the farm in 1958, Pat’s father Patrick took over in 1970 and Pat took over in 2014. Pat started to explore a more unconventional approach to farming when he had a major outbreak of mastitis 13 years ago, with sixteen cases being treated at one time. Amazingly, he did get on top of the problem but swore that he would never subject his cows to the same level of antibiotic treatment again. Pat has transformed his herd's health and fertility while reducing antibiotic use through a homeopathic approach learned over the last 10 years. He is passionate about a naturopathic approach to his herd of 90 dairy cows and now leads the way in Ireland and the UK as a homeopath farmer. Years later, when her surviving brother experienced a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction to an antibiotic and required resuscitation, her parents sought a safer approach to healing and discovered homeopathy. This experience inspired Gabrielle’s lifelong passion for healing. She later earned a five-year homeopathic medical degree in South Africa and went on to conduct double-blind randomized controlled trials investigating homeopathic treatment for ADHD and anxiety. Gabrielle is the author of Live Right For Your Remedy Type, a homeopathic lifestyle guide that emphasizes individualized health and prevention.
