In this Jeep Talk Show interview, host Tony sits down with Kale from Aria to talk Armorlite flooring for Jeeps and other vehicles. Kale shares his lifelong obsession with cars, trucks, bikes, and fabrication work before joining the company to grow the aftermarket side and launch Aria Acoustics. They break down how the thick, textured Armorlite system replaces factory carpet with better heat and sound control, easier drying, and a secure fit from TJ through JL and JT models. You'll also hear about colored plugs, drainage ideas, and why this upgrade makes sense early rather than late. Welcome back to the Jeep Talk Show! In this episode, Tony sits down with Tom Zielinski — lifelong off-roader, event creator and operator, Tread Lightly! board member, former racer, and one of the most connected people in the off-road and automotive event world. Tom shares stories from the "alleged" early days of sneaking into gravel pits, the motivation behind serving on the Tread Lightly board, why he still rides the bumper a little too close on the trail, and how Detroit traffic and Houston Beltway driving shaped his need for speed. Tony sits down with Nick from Tackform (tackform.com) to dig into the world of rugged, vehicle-specific phone, tablet, radio, and device mounts built for Jeeps and serious off-road use.** Nick has been designing and producing phone and device mounts since 2012. The company started in the consumer space, expanded into motorcycles and commercial trucks, then pivoted hard into pickup trucks and SUVs—especially the Jeep community. They specialize in modular, all-metal systems using 20 mm (and larger 26-series) ball-and-socket arms, slim track and Assault Track (Picatinny-style) dash brackets, MagSafe/magnetic holders, spring cradles, and wireless charging options. Key topics covered Why vent mounts and suction cups fail hard on Jeeps (and why solid, no-drill OEM-hole solutions matter) Building custom dash kits for Gladiator, JL, JK, and working backward toward TJ/YJ/XJ Wireless inductive charging cradles (including their new 25-watt version with Peltier cooling plate to fight heat) Magnetic mounts for GMRS handhelds and Midland MXT series mics Starlink mounting options (and why the 26-series ball is better for the heavier load) Load ratings, vibration control, billet CNC aluminum vs. injection-molded parts, and why they constantly iterate Funny customer requests and the realities of scanning new vehicles for perfect fitment The modular "Lego" ecosystem that lets you mix phone holders, radios, switch panels, and cameras Nick walks through how Tackform approaches engineering for real-world abuse, why they prefer billet for many Jeep brackets (easier to iterate), and the challenges of getting hands on brand-new vehicles for scanning and prototyping. https://www.tackform.com Find them on Instagram (tackform.systems / @tackform), Facebook, and their YouTube channel for install videos. 00:00 – Show Opening and Guest Introduction 01:17 – Phone Mount Market and CarPlay Subscription Issues 03:03 – Developing Wireless Charging Phone Mounts 04:29 – Configurable Dash Kit Builder Overview 05:34 – Custom Power Wiring and Hidden Installation 06:39 – OEM Mounting Points and Integrated Power Ports 08:13 – Jeep Modification Culture and Device Mounting Trends 09:13 – Starlink Mount Solutions for Jeeps 11:01 – Ball-and-Socket Mount Architecture and Load Limits 13:53 – GMRS/CB Radio Mounts and Magnetic Attachments 15:43 – Product Development Process and Continuous Innovation 17:17 – Gathering and Evaluating Unusual Product Ideas 17:49 – Creative and Quirky Mount Ideas 18:45 – Safety Limits for Mount Extensions and Airbag Zones 19:19 – Vehicle Acquisition, Scanning, and Prototype Timeline 21:51 – Vibration Management and Material Rigidity in Mount Design 22:56 – Testing Deflection and Vibration on Plastic Tray Mounts 24:04 – Engineering Specificity and Design Optimization 24:44 – Balancing Design Complexity and User Needs 25:22 – Material Choice: Billet vs Injection Molding and Iterative Design 26:49 – CNC Machining vs Tooling: Cost and Volume Trade‑offs 28:44 – Aesthetic Design and Billet Manufacturing Appeal 29:40 – Adapting to New Vehicle Models and Resource Constraints 32:10 – Vehicle Scanning Process and Development Cycle 34:20 – Community Involvement and Simplified Kit Options 35:09 – Customer Commitment and Apology 35:57 – Highlighting Best‑Selling Phone Holder Products 37:23 – Wireless Charging Cradle with Peltier Cooling 39:08 – Phone Overheating, Wireless Charging, and Shade Solutions 40:53 – Inductive Charging in Autonomous Vehicles and Future Outlook 42:27 – Future of Vehicle Mounts, Subscriptions, and Emerging Technologies 43:46 – Tech Evolution and Subscription Model Critique 44:16 – Overview of Best‑Selling Products and Product Range 44:55 – Grab Handle Mounts and Product Variety 45:26 – Manufacturing Capabilities and Equipment Flexibility 46:17 – Managing Overseas Suppliers and Quality Control 47:05 – Automation Costs and Custom Manufacturing in the US 49:14 – US Manufacturing Facilities and Automation Examples 50:03 – Plans for Behind‑the‑Scenes Video Content 54:54 – Closing Remarks and Appreciation Tackform All Metal Dash Mount Phone Holder Compatible with 2024 2025 Jeep Wrangler JL, 4xe and Gladiator JT View on Amazon Tackform TRAXX Slim Track / Assault Track Dash Mounts (MagSafe options) for JL and Gladiator View on Amazon Tackform Link Grab Handle/A-Pillar Mount with Magnetic Phone Holder Compatible with MagSafe, 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler JL, and 2020-2023 Jeep Gladiator JT | All-Metal | CNC Billet Aluminum | Black View on Amazon Tackform Magnetic CB / GMRS Microphone Holders and related Jeep dash kits View on Amazon Visit our website: https://jeeptalkshow.com/ Watch/Listen on Spotify https://jeeptalkshow.com/spotify Join our Discord Server: https://jeeptalkshow.com/discord Subscribe to our newsletter: https://jeeptalkshow.com/newsletter Help Support the show via Patreon: https://jeeptalkshow.com/patreon

Grant shares the real origin story—growing up around dirt bikes and construction with his dad, the moment a tensioned bungee cord sunk into his father's hand, and how that gap in the market stuck with him for years. Full Episode & Show Notes: https://jeeptalkshow.com/just-pull-the-spring-loaded-cargo-strap-that-beats-ratchet-straps-jeep-talk-show/ They dig into the messy reality of inventing and launching a physical product: the prototype phase with Home Depot parts and Alibaba springs, finding the right tension (about 120 lbs on the first model), avoiding the "mailbox money" invention scammers, making and selling the first ugly versions yourself, and why "people don't buy ideas—they buy products." Grant explains how the spring-loaded design works, the continuous polyester limiter band for safety and load rating, why it stays tight when loads shift or compress (coolers, cardboard, UTVs, Jeeps), and the three models (1", 1.5", and the 2" Pro with ratchet) that cover everything from college moves to Moab trailers. The conversation also covers the less glamorous side of business—patent threats that turned into nothing, copycats, why building a strong brand and customer service is better protection than a patent alone, working-load math that goes beyond just vehicle weight, all-weather durability, proper care for lifetime performance, pack sizes, lengths, and extensions. Grant talks about his Invent With Me podcast (helping inventors avoid the same pitfalls he hit) and what's next for TorkStrap: more trade shows, social content, and partnerships rather than diluting the core product. If you've ever cursed a ratchet strap in the rain, watched a load loosen on the highway, or thought about turning a simple idea into a real business, this one's for you. Timestamps 00:00 – AI Sign Language for Deaf Viewers 00:41 – Early Inspiration for Better Cargo Straps 02:36 – Childhood Prototypes Reveal Market Gap 04:10 – COVID Motivation to Launch Business 07:04 – Inventor Licensing Pitfalls and DIY Sales 09:48 – Prototyping, Sampling, and First Customers 11:52 – Designing the Spring-Loaded Torque Strap 14:06 – How Torque Straps Work and Their Benefits 22:48 – Creative Branding Ideas for Torque Straps 24:05 – Facing Competition and Patent Infringement 27:33 – Defending the Product Against Patent Claims 28:12 – Commitment to Quality and Customer Support 29:10 – Competing with Copycats and Maintaining Reputation 30:05 – Encouraging Ethical Purchasing 30:58 – Patent Vulnerabilities and Enforcement Challenges 35:53 – Introducing the Invent With Me Podcast 37:17 – Calculating Load Ratings and Strap Sizing 44:28 – All-Weather Durability and Maintenance 45:30 – Spring Longevity and Packaging Options 47:02 – Pricing Packs and Managing Expectations 48:04 – Customizing Strap Lengths for Use 49:01 – Strap Longevity and Care Guidelines 50:50 – Subscription Idea Mentioned 51:04 – Social Media Presence and Promotion 54:35 – Upcoming Marketing Focus for Torque Strap 56:09 – Shift from Engineering to Marketing 56:40 – Humorous Product Concepts and April Fools 57:08 – Closing Remarks and Podcast Promotion 57:42 – Final Thoughts and Gratitude Key takeaways Just pull—spring tension adapts to load shift or compression so you rarely (or never) have to stop and re-tighten. Continuous polyester strap carries the actual load rating; the spring is the adaptive element with a limiter. Three models cover light-to-heavy needs, including a 2" Pro with ratchet for vehicles and heavier cargo. Lifetime warranty when treated with respect; average "cheap strap" life is ~2 years because people leave them in the bed. **Jeep Talk Show Interview with Dottie from Jeep Babes Enthusiast Club Michigan – 2026 Show & Shine Charity Event** hi-de-ho boys and girls, it's time for another Jeep Talk Show! We're joined again by Dottie, dedicated community leader and outdoor enthusiast from Michigan, where she helps drive the Jeep Babes Enthusiast Club. With a passion for the off-road lifestyle and a heart for service, she turns trail rides and a love of Jeeps into powerful movements for good—coordinating large-scale charity fundraisers while enjoying the trails. Dottie was last on the show August 22, 2025. Catch that earlier interview for more background. This time we dig into the upcoming 2026 Show & Shine, the club's growth (around 4,700 members in the Michigan chapter with a wider network), inclusivity for all Jeeps (and beyond), raffles, vendors, family-friendly vibes, and plenty of laughs—including Dottie's unique last name (Drips), death wobble jokes, skid plate talk, ArmorLite floors, and real talk about asking for help and community. Chris from the Jeep Talk Show is MCing the event again. Look for his gray Gladiator (on 35s with a 2" lift) and give him a hard time about those Jeep Talk Show stickers! **Event Details** 2026 Show & Shine – Charity Event for HAVEN Saturday, September 26, 2026 Birch Run Speedway, 10945 Dixie Hwy, Birch Run, MI (right off I-75) Starts ~11 AM Vehicle Show & Shine entry: $25 donation (includes passengers) General admission: $5 (kids 12 & under free) 100% of proceeds go to HAVEN (supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence) Expect vendors, raffles (including nice prizes and a vacation package), show & shine awards, food/drinks, family-friendly activities, and good facilities.
