| 3/3/24 | ![]() H3IR - live performance (12.16.23) | H31R blends electronica and hip hop together creating an enigmatic but complementary sonic experience that pushes the fickle boundaries of genre. JWords and maassai both grew up listening to a variety of genres and later using the sounds of their youth to expand on the potential and style of their own music. It wasn’t until the two met while playing a show together in 2017 where they’d quickly become friends. JWords and maassai would come to know each other’s respective styles in production and rhyme while developing on their own projects and later build on a mutual desire to bridge the gap between hip hop and electronic music. They’d start with one-off tracks like “My Name Jack?” which would appear on maassai’s debut EP ‘C0n$truct!0n’. This ad-lib process continued with the heavy-hitting “Toxic Behavior”. With schedules opening up during the pandemic, the extra time allowed the two to hone in on their evolving sound and record their first album. | — | ||||||

The album originally released on Sussex Records has risen from obscurity and recently been reissued by the wonderful folks at Light in the Attic Records. Rodriguez himself spent years off the general public’s radar but kept busy with local Detroit politics and playing shows in South Africa and Australia. For us in the northern hemisphere Rodriguez seemed like a powerful spirit of the past and was even rumored to be deceased. Thankfully he’s alive, vibrant and focused on sharing music. His visit to dublab marked his first ever west coast radio session and for this ocassion, he was backed by the always expanding talents Blank Blue. Dig this beautiful session. dublab is a listeners supported radio station. Become a Sustaining Member today at: https://www.dublab.com/support/memberships | — | ||||||

| 9/10/22 | ![]() Veranda Culture — dublab's 21st anniversary (10.03.20) | Veranda Culture performed live for the very first time at the dublab 21st Anniversary. All new music performed at his loft studio in Melbourne, Australia, alongside close friend and studio partner Luke Coleman. Veranda Culture is a musical project established by Australian electronic music artist and dublab resident DJ Griffin James (known mostly for his work under his Francis Inferno Orchestra). The project emerged in 2017 with a album and record label that was a compelling escape from the regular programming of James’s previously known works, trading off late night dance music for an emotive bed of sound that is hard to pin down but effortless to absorb as a whole. For the past 3 years since its entrance in to the music sphere (while remaining in a low key state of existence), little trickles of new music and teasers of a follow up VC album have appeared via the projects Bandcamp and on social media platforms but nothing with complete confirmation.
