| 6/18/26 | ![]() Creating from Your Impermanence | Most of us live as though we have time. Time to start the thing. Time to rest. Time to repair the relationship. Time to prioritise our health. Time to create the life we dream about. But what if the awareness that our time is finite wasn't depressing, but liberating? In this episode, I explore the Buddhist teaching of impermanence and how contemplating our own mortality can help us wake up to what truly matters. Rather than creating fear, impermanence can become a powerful teacher, helping us appreciate life more deeply, let go of what no longer serves us, and fully participate in the life we already have. We explore: • Why we take so much of life for granted • The Buddhist perspective on death and impermanence • How attachment creates suffering • The identities we cling to and why they may be ready to evolve • What loss can teach us about presence • How remembering life's fragility can help us live more courageously • Questions to help you reflect on what truly matters • A guided meditation on impermanence and living fully As Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us: "The trouble is, you think you have time." My invitation for you is simple: If not now, when? Mentioned in this episode If you've been feeling stuck, reactive, overwhelmed or constantly at capacity, I invite you to join my free workshop: The Real Reason You Feel Stuck, Reactive and At Capacity Discover why the answer isn't more effort, discipline or another mindset strategy — and how your nervous system may be shaping far more of your life than you realise. 👉 Register here: https://www.simonedenny.me/realreason Reflection Questions • What am I postponing as though I have unlimited time? • What am I taking for granted? • What identity or role am I holding onto that may be ready to evolve? • If I remembered that life is impermanent, how would I want to live? • How would I want to love? • What would I want to create? Thank you for listening. May this episode help you slow down, notice more, and fully participate in this one precious life. | 11/13/24 | ![]() The Path from Self-Abandonment to Self-Honouring | In this episode, we dive into the subtle ways self-abandonment shows up in our lives and how it can leave us feeling disconnected and unfulfilled. Self-abandonment occurs when we ignore our true needs in favour of pleasing others or meeting societal expectations, often leading to emotional exhaustion, burnout, and physical neglect. Key Patterns of Self-Abandonment: People-Pleasing: Prioritising others’ needs over your own. High Achievement: Masking deeper emotional needs with success. The "Strong One" Role: Avoiding vulnerability by appearing unshakable. Dissociation: Disconnecting from emotions as a survival mechanism. Suppressing Emotions: Avoiding feelings like anger or fear due to past conditioning. Neglecting Physical Needs: Ignoring rest, medical care, or body signals. Self-Criticism: Harsh internal dialogue rooted in past fear or rejection. These patterns can leave us feeling exhausted, unfulfilled, and disconnected from our authentic selves. Over time, this can lead to a loss of clarity and purpose. The Cost of Self-Abandonment: The emotional toll of ignoring our true needs is high—it leads to burnout, confusion, and a lack of fulfilment. Over time, we lose touch with our authentic selves. Solutions for Reclaiming Your Authentic Self: Set Boundaries: Learn to say “no” and protect your emotional health. Reclaim Vulnerability: Embrace your true emotions and show up authentically. Nurture Your Body: Listen to your body’s needs and prioritize self-care. Release Self-Criticism: Challenge the internal critic and practice self-compassion. Heal Childhood Wounds: Address limiting beliefs learned in childhood that fuel self-abandonment. Healing from self-abandonment starts with self-awareness and small, intentional steps to reconnect with your true self. If you’ve been feeling disconnected or stuck, this episode will help you understand the root causes of these patterns and provide tools to start your journey toward healing and purpose. | 11/3/24 | ![]() Your Momentum Map: 5 Steps to a Winning Week | Welcome back to the podcast! Today’s episode is all about setting up your week for success with clarity, focus, and momentum. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or find it challenging to prioritize what's most important, this episode is for you. Episode Highlights: The importance of intentional planning for gaining weekly clarity and focus. How I use a “primer” approach in my membership program for brain-dumping and prioritizing weekly tasks. Introduction to the "START" Process—a 5-step framework to bring momentum to your week, month, or any new project. The START Process: S - Set Your Intention: Anchor yourself by deciding what matters most this week. Think about William James’ quote: "My experience is what I agree to attend to." Focus on what you want to create and how you want to show up. T - Tune Into the Feeling: It’s not just about what you want to achieve, but who you want to be in the process. Feelings like calm, confidence, or joy can be intentionally generated to support your goals. A - Anchor a Habit: Identify a small, actionable habit that supports your focus. For example, journaling, mindfulness, or a simple breathing exercise can help ground you in your desired state of being. R - Reflect: Check in on your progress regularly. Are you aligned with your goals and intentions? Adjust and pivot as needed to stay on track. T - Take Time for Yourself: Schedule “white space” to recharge, get creative, and connect with yourself. This time is essential for refilling your mental and emotional reserves. Key Takeaway: By setting an intention, tuning into the right feelings, anchoring supportive habits, reflecting often, and giving yourself space to recharge, you can create a week filled with purpose, productivity, and ease. | 9/18/24 | ![]() Too Restless to Meditate? Here’s What You Can Do Instead | In this episode, we dive into the challenges faced by those who feel too restless for traditional meditation practices. Inspired by a recent question from a workshop attendee, I explore how high-energy personalities and those who struggle with restlessness can still cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness without having to sit in stillness. We often think meditation is the only way to build resilience and manage stress, but that’s not true for everyone. I share personal insights from my own experience, including how I found it difficult to meditate and what alternative methods I used to stay connected and present. You'll learn about the deeper reasons for restlessness, such as avoiding uncomfortable emotions and childhood conditioning. We'll also touch on the role of dopamine and how overstimulation from social media and modern life can amplify feelings of discontentment. If you find sitting in meditation too difficult, don’t worry — I offer several other tools, including mindful movement, yoga, and even chanting, that can help you find balance without the pressure to "just sit still." Key Topics: Restlessness and Personality Types: - Why some of us are more prone to restlessness? - The impact of childhood experiences and emotional avoidance. - The link between restlessness, dopamine, and overstimulation from our fast-paced world. Restlessness and Emotions: - How restlessness can stem from avoiding deeper emotions like sadness, guilt, or shame. - The feeling of being pulled in many directions without fully being present. Alternative Mindfulness Practices: - Mindful movement like yoga, tai chi, and mindful walking. - The power of chanting and how it provides an active form of mindfulness. - How guided meditations can be a great starting point for those who struggle with stillness. Dopamine and Restlessness: - How dopamine fuels our restlessness and the role of modern technology in overstimulating our reward systems. - The addictive loop of seeking constant stimulation and why it depletes our sense of contentment. Practical Takeaways: Short meditations: Starting with bite-sized practices (just 3–5 minutes) can help ease you into mindfulness. Mindful movement: Engaging in activities like yoga or walking can be an entry point to presence without the pressure to sit still. Tuning into your senses: A simple walk in nature while focusing on the sounds, sights, and smells around you can be just as powerful as meditation. Be kind to yourself: If meditation feels challenging, know that there are other ways to cultivate mindfulness that align better with your energy. Join the Conversation: If this resonates with you, or if you have a restless part of yourself that you're working with, I’d love to hear from you. What’s been working for you? | 8/27/24 | ![]() Leaning Into Discomfort: The Path to True Growth | In this deeply reflective episode, we explore the profound power of discomfort and how leaning into it can lead to significant personal growth. Inspired by my own journey of sharing vulnerable truths in a previous episode, I delve into the surprising lessons I learned about discomfort, especially in how we receive care and support from others. I discuss the practice of embracing small discomforts daily, as a way to build resilience and prepare for the bigger challenges in life. We also break down the “Motivational Triad” — and explain why understanding this model can help us update our systems and shift from our primitive responses to more empowered, growth-oriented actions. Key Takeaways: 1. Discomfort as Growth: Discomfort is a practice, not just a one-time experience. By leaning into small discomforts regularly, we prepare ourselves to handle more significant challenges and grow from them. 2. The Motivational Triad: Our primitive brain is wired to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and conserve energy. By understanding these instincts, we can consciously choose discomfort and step into our growth zone. 3. Protective Parts: Explore how protective behaviours like people-pleasing and high-achieving are strategies we develop to avoid discomfort. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward choosing a different, more empowering path. 4. Vulnerability and Discomfort: Vulnerability and discomfort go hand in hand. Sharing our truths, even when it feels risky, opens us up to deeper connections and personal growth. Why Listen: If you’ve ever felt stuck in a cycle of comfort, this episode will inspire you to start embracing discomfort as a powerful tool for growth. Whether it’s taking cold showers, having courageous conversations, or setting boundaries, we explore practical ways to step into discomfort and experience the transformation that comes with it. As a coach, I'm passionate about helping people be intentional about where they put their energy and attention each day, week, and beyond. Personally, I've noticed a big difference when I don’t do my planning! In my Hatchery membership—a program for learning, growth, and connection—we often hold weekly and monthly primer sessions to set ourselves up for success and to live with intention. Starting your day or week with momentum can set the tone for a productive and fulfilling time ahead. Focus on Your Top 3 Priorities: "What are the top 3 things you want to achieve today?" Practice Daily Gratitude: Reflect on, "What am I grateful for today?" Create White Space: Consider, "How can I create white space in my day?" By identifying important but not urgent tasks, focusing on top priorities, practicing daily gratitude, and creating white space, you can start your day or week with a strong sense of momentum and flow. These practices help create a balanced, fulfilling life and keep you moving steadily toward your bigger goals. What are some of your daily or weekly habits that help you get into momentum and flow? Then look at the questions you ask yourself, especially when comparing to others. Theodore Roosevelt said, “Comparison is the theft of joy.” This is concerning, considering most of us spend hours scrolling and comparing our lives with the lives of others online, often unconsciously. How much joy is getting stolen? Without realising it, comparison imprints and leaves us with thoughts such as: ‘I’m am I not where I should be’ ‘Why am I not where they are’ ‘I’m not achieving enough’ ‘Why am I stuck’ The problem is these questions don’t move you forward; they keep you where you are. Today, in this short 11.11 min audio (how cool is that number), I share 4 powerful questions that move you out of comparison and not-enoughness and into growth and momentum.
