| 5/4/26 | ![]() Birth Plans vs. Birth Vibes: Real-Life Tips for a Hospital Birth That Feels Good with Jen Hamilton | In today’s episode, I’m sitting down with the one and only Jen Hamilton - labor and delivery nurse, viral content creator, and now author of Birth Vibes. She’s the recipient of the 2026 President’s Award from the American Nurses Association, and continues to use her platform to educate, uplift, and humanize the realities of nursing, patient care, and mental health. With over a decade of bedside experience and a massive online community, Jen is known for blending clinical expertise with real-life honesty, humor, and so much heart. And truly, that’s exactly what you’re getting in this conversation. We talk about her unexpected journey from ER nurse to L&D, how she built a platform that resonates with millions, and what it’s been like stepping into the world of writing and storytelling through her new book. From there, we dive into some of the most important conversations happening in birth right now - things like informed consent, patient autonomy, and what it actually looks like to feel supported (not just “checked off”) during your birth experience. Jen shares how she advocates for her patients in real-time, how to navigate decision-making in labor without fear, and why understanding your “birth vibes” matters just as much - if not more - than having a perfectly written birth plan. We also get into practical scenarios, pain management, and how to approach your birth feeling informed, empowered, and truly seen.More from Jen Hamilton:Pre-order her book: Birth VibesFollow Jen on Instagram, TikTok, & YouTube @_jen_hamilton_Helpful Timestamps:00:00 Welcome Jen Hamilton06:59 From ER to Labor and Delivery16:23 Autonomy and Informed Choice19:54 Advocacy With Providers28:55 Why Refusing Care Triggers Pushback36:32 Promises and Transparency38:39 Birth Plan Values46:04 Saving Coping Batons49:26 AWHONN Staffing Advocacy53:27 Birth Vibes FrameworkAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. We also talk through practical ways partners can show up during labor, why flexibility matters so much, and how preparing together can completely change the birth experience. We also get honest about postpartum life, bringing home your first baby, learning how to communicate in a new season, and figuring out roles as your family grows. | 4/20/26 | ![]() Low Milk Supply & Breast Hypoplasia: Emily’s Birth Story & Breastfeeding Challenges | Episode 48 | In this episode, I’m sitting down with Emily to walk through a birth & breastfeeding story that truly took some unexpected turns - from a super fast-moving labor that started out feeling empowering and intense, to a shift in momentum that led to more interventions than she had planned. She shares what it was like navigating that experience in real time, including the emotional and physical challenges of labor stalling, making decisions around pain management, and ultimately bringing her baby girl into the world after a 24 hour labor and unpredictable journey. But where this conversation really deepens is in the postpartum period.Emily opens up about her breastfeeding journey and the confusion, frustration, and heartbreak she experienced when things weren’t working the way she expected. After 8 weeks of trying everything and not getting clear answers, she was eventually diagnosed with breast hypoplasia, also known as insufficient glandular tissue (IGT), a primary cause of low milk supply that’s not often talked about. We discuss the gaps in education and support around low supply, the emotional weight of feeding struggles, and what it looks like to redefine your expectations while still maintaining a meaningful breastfeeding relationship.More from Emily Shapiro:Connect with Emily on IG: @n.ight.garden or you can email her at emilyshapiro1@gmail.comHer birth + breastfeeding resources include:The Breastfeeding Blueprint course by The Labor MamaWhapio Diane BartlettHelpful Timestamps:00:00 Low Milk Supply01:46 Welcome Emily Shapiro04:25 Birth Plan and Hospital Reality09:56 Arriving at 7 Centimeters12:45 Water Tub Relief and Transition14:59 Labor Stalls & Making Decisions25:49 Postpartum: Low Supply Challenges32:45 Breast Hypoplasia Diagnosis Explained44:51 Takeaways on Low Supply47:04 Resources and Where to ConnectAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. | 4/13/26 | ![]() Should You Say Yes to a Membrane Sweep: Pros, Cons, and Things to Know with Lo Mansfield | Episode 47 | Join YBYB: www.thelabormama.com/birth & use the code PODCAST to save 20%I wanted to sit down and just give you the real, practical, no-fluff breakdown of membrane sweeping at the end of pregnancy - because this is one of those topics that comes up constantly when you’re 38, 39, 40 weeks and just ready to meet your baby. In this episode, I walk you through exactly what a membrane sweep is (and how it’s tied to a cervical exam), what it actually feels like, and what it’s trying to do - basically, give your body a gentle nudge by releasing prostaglandins to maybe kickstart labor. I’m really clear about this: it’s still a medical intervention, even if it’s on the more “natural” end of the induction spectrum. And consent matters - big time. You can absolutely say yes to an exam and no to a sweep, and those should never be bundled together without your full understanding. From there, I get into the nuance that people often skip - like the fact that sweeps can increase your chances of going into labor sooner, but they’re far from a magic button. Sometimes nothing happens. Sometimes it takes multiple sweeps. Sometimes “success” just means you avoided a formal induction days later - not that you went into labor that night. I also talk through the real pros (possibly avoiding medical induction) and the very real cons (discomfort, cramping, frustration, and rare risks like infection or accidentally breaking your water). And ultimately, my whole message is this: this isn’t about whether a membrane sweep is “good” or “bad.” It’s about whether it’s the right choice for you, your body, your baby’s position, and your circumstances. Your body isn’t broken if it doesn’t work - and if it does work, it’s probably because your body was already getting ready. This is just a tool, and you get to decide if and when to use it.More from this episode:Listen to Episode #21: What's the Big Deal About Cervical Exams & Should You Say Yes or No?Helpful Timestamps:00:00 Membrane Sweeps04:29 What a Membrane Sweep Is09:51 What It Feels Like14:38 Evidence Behind Membrane Sweeps20:08 Risks and Downsides23:12 Baby Position Considerations24:59 Who Should Skip Sweeps25:43 Making the Decision27:45 Key TakeawaysAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. We kicked things off by chatting about what it’s like being a man in a super female-dominated field, how he fell in love with birth during med school, and the subtle (and not-so-subtle) pushback he sometimes faces. But the real heart of this conversation is all things induction — why there’s this weird “evil induction” stigma out there, and how we can swing the pendulum back to the middle where informed choice lives. We broke down the difference between induction and augmentation, talked through real reasons people get induced (high blood pressure, diabetes, big baby concerns, going past your due date, or even just being totally done being pregnant after 39 weeks), and dug into the data versus the guilt we sometimes feel about our choices. Dr. Hunter shared his honest take on the Arrive trial, C-section risks, baby size estimates, and how monitoring can give you options if you want to wait a little longer. The whole conversation felt like the supportive, judgment-free chat I wish every pregnant person could have with their provider. If you’ve ever felt torn about inductions or just want to feel empowered to ask better questions, this one’s for you!More from Dr. Ahan Hunter:Follow Dr. Hunter on TikTok, Instagram, FaceBook & YouTube @drahanhunterHelpful Timestamps:00:00 Induction Stigma & Myths03:34 Welcome Dr. Ahan Hunter05:57 Male Provider Trust09:22 Finding the Right Fit15:00 Induction Pendulum Shift18:00 Induction Vs Augmentation21:13 Reasons To Induce27:23 Big Baby Size Debate31:24 Advocating for Your Choices34:01 Arrive Trial Explained38:09 C-Section Risk Talk47:03 Choosing Your ProviderAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. We had such a fun, practical conversation about all the different pain management tools and comfort measures available during labor - from TENS units and birth combs to sterile water injections, IV pain meds, nitrous oxide, and of course the epidural. We even ranked them like we’ve been seeing trending online, and we get real about what actually helps, what’s underrated, and how so many of these tools work best when you combine them together. We also touched on something really important toward the end of the episode (check timestamps) - Sydney opened up about her history with an eating disorder and how she’s thoughtfully preparing for pregnancy and postpartum, making sure she has the right support in place. It was such an honest and compassionate conversation about how body image, food relationships, and the rapid changes of pregnancy can feel complicated, and why it’s so valuable to talk openly with your care team and surround yourself with positivity. Whether you’re planning a birth, supporting someone through it, or just love birth education, this episode is packed with real-talk tools and heartfelt reminders that you deserve compassionate care no matter what.More from Nurse Sydney:Visit www.nursesydney.comFollow her on Instagram, FaceBook, TikTok, or YouTube: @nursesydneyHelpful Timestamps:00:00 Comfort Tools During Labor02:29 Meet Nurse Sydney10:28 Ranking Birth Pain Tools15:02 Hydrotherapy and Environment17:43 TENS Unit Breakdown21:48 Birth Combs and Spiky Balls24:32 Sterile Water Injections28:56 IV Pain Meds Explained33:51 Nitrous How It Works38:33 The Epidural43:17 Pudendal Block Option47:09 Eating Disorder Pregnancy Prep52:36 Building Support Care PlansAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. | 3/23/26 | ![]() What Happens in OB Triage & Will They Send You Home? | Episode 44 | Join YBYB: www.thelabormama.com/birth & use the code PODCAST to save 20%In this episode, I walk you through what OB triage is, and what actually happens when you show up to OB triage near term for a labor check, leaking fluid concerns, or just that gut feeling something's shifting. Basically, triage is like the hospital's holding space before they decide whether to officially admit you or send you home to keep laboring. You might change into a gown (or not - totally your call), pee in a cup, get your vitals taken, and answer a bunch of questions about contractions, baby's movements, any bleeding, headaches, or vision changes. Then comes at least 20 minutes (sometimes more) of fetal monitoring - an NST - to check how baby's heart rate looks with your contractions and make sure everything's reassuring. The big question they're answering is, “Is it okay for this baby to be born today, and is this real labor that's moving things along?” Trust your intuition - there's zero shame in going in, even if they send you home. It's just a checkpoint in the process, not an emergency, and it's there for exactly these moments. If you're prepping for that third-trimester uncertainty, definitely loop back to the episodes on emotional signposts of labor, the types of contractions, and when to actually go to the hospital (linked below_ - they all build on each other to help you feel more confident about what's happening in your body. | 3/16/26 | ![]() Unplanned Cesarean, Postpartum Anxiety & Rage & Breastfeeding Challenges: Courtney Horton | Episode 43 | Join YBYB: www.thelabormama.com/birth & use the code PODCAST to save 20%I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Courtney as she opened up about her two birth stories and postpartum experiences. She walked us through the early miscarriage that started their journey, the intense pelvic pain and anatomy challenges that led to a planned C-section with her first (even though she wanted to give her body a chance at vaginal birth), and that raw postpartum spiral of anxiety, supply issues, and the guilt that came when breastfeeding didn’t go the way she’d hoped. Then she took us into her second pregnancy, where she was hoping for a redemptive VBAC, and still ended up with a C-section - but this time she fought for a clear drape so she could watch her baby come into the world. What I loved most about Courtney’s story is how beautifully she holds the “both-and” of it all: the quiet regret of not getting the labor she dreamed of, the breastfeeding rollercoaster that went from eight days to eight months the second time around, and the deep peace she’s found in focusing on what she did get - two healthy boys who are thriving and absolutely obsessed with each other. It’s such a powerful reminder that our birth and feeding stories don’t have to look perfect to be beautiful, and that sometimes the greatest gift is learning to love the version we actually lived. I’m so proud of her for sharing it all so vulnerably - this one’s for every mama who’s ever wondered “what if” and still chose to celebrate what is.More from Courtney:Connect with her on Instagram: @clove_42Helpful Timestamps:00:00 Courtney’s Birth Stories04:33 Early Loss And Hope07:41 Pelvic Pain And Doubts10:12 Choosing A C-Section15:17 Breastfeeding & Postpartum Anxiety23:16 Second Pregnancy Challenges28:54 Anatomy Not Baby Size30:38 Planning A Gentler C-Section37:40 Supply Drop And Triple Feeding40:08 Back To Work Sleep Deprivation43:49 Making Peace With Her Story46:55 Resources And Where To ConnectAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. We've "known" each other through the online world for years, and getting to dive deep with her felt like catching up with an old friend. We talked about the wild ride of motherhood - the loneliness that can creep in after the newborn haze, those hard moments like struggling with breastfeeding or deciding to grow your family, and the seasons we go through as our kiddos grow.Jess shared how writing became her therapy, turning those highs and lows into poetry that just hits you right in the feels, reminding us it's okay to not have it all together amid the chaos. Jess opened up about setting boundaries with sharing her kids' stories online, and how her books (seriously, she's got like 17, including the new "They Bloom Because of You" that's all about those evolving mom seasons) help us feel seen and less alone. | 3/2/26 | ![]() Hospital Postpartum Care: What to Expect After Delivery and At Home with Kara the Baby Nurse | Episode 41 | Join The Breastfeeding Blueprint: www.thelabormama.com/breastfeeding & use the code PODCAST to save 20%I sat down with Kara the Baby Nurse and it felt like the real postpartum prep chat every new mom needs. We talked about what her real 12-hour mother-baby shifts actually look like - all the assessments, the nonstop education, how she and her team fight to protect your sleep with those do-not-disturb signs and clustering care - because rest really is medicine for your body and your brain. We got into breastfeeding support, what surprises people the most in those fresh postpartum hours, and how clustering care lets you actually get some rest instead of constant interruptions.Kara also opens up about her own postpartum - she was so prepped for labor and delivery, but had zero prep for what came after, and it was rough. Engorgement, going back to work at six weeks, feeling totally blindsided… it’s why she pours so much into her content now. Her biggest key takeaway: prepare for postpartum like you prepare for birth, advocate for your rest, and know that your mother-baby nurse is in your corner more than you realize. This episode is packed with real talk, practical tips, and so much heart - I hope it leaves you feeling seen and way more ready.More from Kara the Baby Nurse:Follow her on Instagram, TikTok, & YouTube: @karathebabynurseCheckout Afterglow: A Postpartum Recovery & Wellness ClassHelpful timestamps:00:00 Postpartum Prep Matters01:36 Meet Kara Baby Nurse04:44 Her Nursing Path07:52 Postpartum Story Goes Viral14:39 What Mom Baby Nurses Do20:39 Breastfeeding Support Team28:36 What Clustering Care Means33:16 Postpartum Care Surprises36:38 Bring All The Things39:48 Home With Baby Reality40:13 Prepare For Postpartum45:59 Where To Find KaraAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. It's one that's super close to my heart, especially with my son's birthday rolling around. I get right into the messiness of where I was at emotionally after losing my mom right after my first baby, and navigating that grief through my second pregnancy. I was dealing with brokenness, putting myself back together while raising my girls, and finally feeling ready for a third amid the chaos of COVID hitting just as we decided to try. I share how I was hopeful for a "textbook" experience like my first two, but reminded myself every birth is its own thing, prepping for all possibilities while chasing a redemptive birth and postpartum I was hoping for - filled with more joy than grief.Tune in for my third, redemptive birth story, and check out these other episodes mentioned throughout: Labor Nurse's First Unmedicated Hospital Birth with Midwives | Episode 01The Emotional Signposts of Labor (an Episode for Every Birth Partner to Hear) | Episode 10Labor Nurses's Second, Unmedicated, Fast Birth with D-MER and PPA During Postpartum | Episode 13Is it Real Labor: Braxton Hicks Contractions, False Labor & Prodromal Labor | Episode 37You're Contracting! As a mom of three little ones, she somehow juggles it all while dishing out the most honest, evidence-based education on social media. We dove into her personal unmedicated birth stories, how she prepped with simple, yet intentional things like prenatal yoga and deep breathing walks, and why labor prep is all about aligning with your own goals. We unpacked some eye-opening misconceptions, like how inductions can take forever if you're not prepped, or how postpartum and breastfeeding often catch families off guard with the wild spectrum of highs and lows. We got real about balancing the "scary" truths with empowering information, stressing advocacy, communication with your team, and trusting your gut. Sarah's all about giving you the tools to own your experience, whether it's low-intervention or whatever feels right for you - it's so inspiring to chat with someone who's been there as both a nurse and a mom, helping families feel seen and ready.More from Sarah, Labor Junkie, RN:Follow Sarah on Instagram, TikTok, FaceBook, & YouTube: @labor_junkie_rnHelpful Timestamps:00:00 Welcome Sarah, Labor Junkie RN02:27 Sarah's Journey and Social Media Presence06:05 Unmedicated Birth: Personal Experiences and Preferences15:56 Preparing for an Unmedicated Birth28:10 Challenges and Misconceptions in Birth and Postpartum33:26 The Spectrum of Postpartum Experiences36:23 Balancing Scary and Necessary Information41:18 Respecting and Trusting Your Audience47:38 Advocacy and Communication in Birth54:54 The Joys and Challenges of ParentingAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. | 2/9/26 | ![]() You’re Contracting! When Do You Go to the Hospital? with Lo Mansfield | Episode 38 | Join YBYB: www.thelabormama.com/birth & use the code PODCAST to save 20%If you’ve ever stared at the clock in early labor thinking “when do I actually go to the hospital?” - this episode is for you. It’s the question I get asked more than almost anything else, and I totally get the anxiety. So today I’m laying out everything I wish someone had told me before my first birth: how to time contractions properly, what the 4-1-1 or 5-1-1 rule actually means, and why those numbers are only the beginning of the story. We talk through all the real-life factors that matter way more than a simple rule - how far you live from the hospital, how your labors have gone in the past, changes in pressure, bloody show, nausea, emotional signposts, GBS status, and the fact that second, third, and fourth babies love to show up faster than you expect. I also share the exact moment in my first birth when a sudden shift in pressure told me it was time to go. Bottom line: you’re allowed to get this decision “wrong,” triage exists for a reason, and you’re way more prepared than you think you are.If you haven’t listened to episode 37 on the different types of contractions yet, go do that first - these two episodes are meant to be a pair. Come back when you’re ready and let’s take the guesswork out of this together!More from this episode:Listen to episode 37: Is it Real Labor: Braxton Hicks Contractions, False Labor & Prodromal LaborListen to episode 10: The Emotional Signposts of Labor (an Episode for Every Birth Partner to Hear)Listen to episode 01: Labor Nurse’s First Unmedicated Hospital Birth with MidwivesAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. | 2/2/26 | ![]() Is it Real Labor: Braxton Hicks Contractions, False Labor & Prodromal Labor with Lo Mansfield | Episode 37 | Join YBYB: www.thelabormama.com/birth & use the code PODCAST to save 20%Today we're diving into all things contractions - because if you're in your third trimester (or gearing up for it), you're probably starting to feel those tightenings and wondering, "What the heck is this? Is it real labor?" I share personal stories and break down each of these contractions to help you understand the signs of real vs. false labor contractions. The four types of labor contractions:Braxton Hicks:those practice ones that can start early but are totally stoppable with rest or hydration.Prodromal labor:the exhausting, ongoing pattern that feels real but doesn't change your cervix yet.False labor:painful and regular, but it fizzles out on its own.True labor:the real deal that gets stronger, longer, and closer together, often with signs like bloody show or pressure. The goal here is to arm you with knowledge so you're not discouraged by these labor contractions that aren’t quite the real thing, yet. Your body's prepping like a pro, even if it's annoying. We touch on tips for managing them, like fetal positioning exercises or boosting oxytocin through rest and relaxation to potentially flip things into real labor. If you're unsure when to head to the hospital, don't sweat it - that's what OB triage is for, no apologies needed if you "get it wrong." This is part one, so stick around for part two where we'll tackle timing contractions, using your history and signs to decide when it's go-time, whether you're hospital-bound, birthing at home, or heading to a center.More from this episode:Read the blog: The Miles Circuit: Can it Induce Labor?Listen to Episode 10: The Emotional Signposts of LaborHelpful Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to Labor Contractions03:25 Types of Contractions10:03 Braxton Hicks Contractions16:20 Understanding Prodromal Labor18:22 False Labor Explained20:17 Fetal Positioning and Labor23:30 Real Labor: Signs and Symptoms28:17 When to Go to the Hospital32:42 Conclusion and EncouragementAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. We chatted about maternity leave perks in Canada versus the US (jealous much?), and she shared what she'd do differently with her own births now, like staying home longer, moving more, and delaying epidurals to make labor smoother and more empowered. We dive into advocacy and how intentional communication can minimize birth trauma. Tina's expertise shines here, stressing how crucial communication is in the delivery room, from scripting ways to decline interventions kindly but firmly, to curating your birth team and asking for a new nurse if the vibes don't match. We got real about epidurals not always keeping up with fast labors, the myth-busting around hospital births being ‘industrial’, and how even small touches like eye contact or a play-by-play communication during emergencies can prevent feeling violated or scared. She's all about that informed, joyful birth experience, and honestly, this convo was such a gift for anyone prepping for birth.Helpful Timestamps:00:00 Welcome Mama Nurse Tina06:55 Tina's Journey: From ER to Labor and Delivery13:19 Birth Stories and Lessons Learned28:51 Advocacy and Patient Empowerment35:32 The Importance of Nurse-Patient Compatibility38:57 The Role of Nurses in Birth47:01 Preventing Birth Trauma51:31 The Power of Communication in Birth01:05:19 Final Thoughts and Personal ReflectionsMore from Mama Nurse Tina:Visit https://www.bumptolatch.com/Follow her on TikTok an Instagram @mama_nurse_tinaSubscribe to her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@mamanursetinaAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. Whether you've just pushed out your baby vaginally or are planning a cesarean, there's so much happening in these ecstatic, hazy moments, from skin-to-skin bliss to essential checks and choices. I want you to feel empowered, not overwhelmed, so you can advocate for what you want while soaking in that newborn magic. We start right after baby arrives: the relief, possible shaking (totally normal and hormonal!), Apgar scores to gauge baby's transition, and delayed cord clamping (plus how cord blood banking fits in). Then, we cover what’s happening during this third-stage of labor, like Pitocin to prevent bleeding, placenta delivery (usually 15-30 minutes), and any tear repairs. Moving into the fourth stage, I explain fundal checks versus assessments, the golden hour's many skin-to-skin benefits (stress reduction, temp regulation, bonding, oxytocin boost, and breastfeeding support), that first magical breastfeed with colostrum, postpartum meds for pain and stool softening, getting up to pee (tips included!), and newborn procedures like assessments, eye ointment, vitamin K, and hep B vaccine. This is your roadmap to informed consent - nothing here has to be decided on the spot. My hope? You leave these hours feeling knowledgeable, blissful, and deeply connected.Mentioned in this episode:Grab My Free Third Trimester Pack - Birth Plan included!Your Body, Your Birth CourseHelpful Timestamps:01:23 The First Hours After Birth: What to Expect03:43 Understanding the Third and Fourth Stages of Labor05:28 Immediate Post-Birth Procedures and Choices10:08 The Golden Hour13:35 Placenta Delivery and Pitocin Use18:21 Fundal Assessments & Checks21:58 Benefits of Skin-to-Skin27:12 Postpartum Pain Management33:52 Newborn Assessments and Procedures36:52 Transition to Postpartum CareAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. | 12/22/25 | ![]() IVF, Early Miscarriages, Traumatic First Induction & Redemptive Second Birth: Hannah Stevenson | Episode 31 | Join YBYB: www.thelabormama.com/birth & use the code PODCAST to save 20%Hello, hello, friends! In this heartfelt episode of Lo & Behold, I sit down with Hannah, one of my amazing birth course students and a military mama who's navigated some seriously wild twists on her path to motherhood. She opens up about her fertility journey - think IVF rollercoasters, repeated early miscarriages after Clomid and methotrexate, and the emotional gut-punch of late implantations that just didn't stick. Then, we dive into her two birth stories: the first a grueling multi-day induction at a military hospital, marked by intense cramping from Cytotec and a Cook's catheter, a traumatic scalp stimulation, and finally welcoming her son after an hour-and-a-half of pushing (with some accidental lat workouts thrown in!). We touch on her raw postpartum struggles too - bonding challenges, mastitis, high lipase milk, and granulation tissue. It's real, it's messy, and it's a reminder that there's no "best" way through any of this.Fast-forward to baby number two, and Hannah's second induction is like night and day - empowered choices at a civilian hospital, gentle providers who actually listened, a quick progression with Pitocin and water breaking leading to fetal ejection reflex, and a smoother postpartum with better breastfeeding prep and therapy healing those first-birth scars. I love how Hannah pulls wisdom from her first experience, leaning into education and advocating like a boss.Helpful Timestamps:01:24 Birth Story Day: Meet Hannah02:04 Hannah's Journey to Pregnancy08:14 IVF and Pregnancy Success10:46 Labor and Delivery Challenges24:09 Her First Birth Experience: A Quiet Arrival25:41 Postpartum Challenges: Breastfeeding Struggles26:34 Hospital Stay and Recovery29:40 Second Pregnancy and IVF Journey31:04 A Better Birth Experience40:08 Postpartum Reflections and Future Plans44:48 Resources and RecommendationsAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. | 12/1/25 | ![]() Oversupply, Exclusive Pumping & Neurodivergent Lactation with The Oversupply Mama | Episode 28 | Join The Breastfeeding Blueprint: www.thelabormama.com/breastfeeding & use the code PODCAST to save 20%I sat down with Bethany (aka The Oversupply Mama), a CLC, NICU mama, autism mama, and someone who has lived both the exclusive-pumping trenches and a redemptive nursing journey. We get real about what oversupply actually feels like when it’s your reality and how to manage an abundant supply without experiencing recurrent mastitis. What’s inside this episode:Oversupply isn’t just “extra milk in the freezer” — it can mean daily clogs, mastitis scares, hours spent labeling milk bags, and legit stress. Your struggle is valid, even if someone else would “kill to have your problem.”Pumping done thoughtfully can actually extend your breastfeeding journey (yes, even if you nurse at the breast most of the time). You can absolutely nurse + pump + bottle-feed and still hit your “exclusive breastfeeding” goals. How to gently drop pumps or reduce supply (slow is the name of the game, friends). Why weaning (even just dropping one pump session) is emotional — hormones are wild, and it’s okay to both celebrate and grieve at the same time.If you’re an exclusive pumper, or just curious about the “other side” of the supply conversation, this episode will make you feel so seen. And if you’ve ever thought, “Wait… I can keep my oversupply and actually enjoy it?” — Bethany’s got you.Helpful Timestamps:02:17 Meet Bethany: The Oversupply Mama04:03 Navigating Pumping and Nursing06:29 Understanding Oversupply and Pumping18:09 Practical Tips for Managing Oversupply22:54 Steps to Reduce Oversupply27:23 The Emotional Impact of Weaning29:35 Gradual Weaning Strategies31:38 Adapting to Changes and Seeking Help35:19 The Joy and Challenges of Pumping41:57 Final Thoughts and ResourcesMore from Bethany The Oversupply Mama:Follow her on Instagram: @theoversupplymama & TikTok: @theoversupplymamaVisit theoversupplymama.comGrab the No More Mastitis Weaning CourseAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast. | 11/24/25 | ![]() Will My Baby Ever Sleep Through the Night? with Andrea of Baby Sleep Answers | Episode 27 | Join YBYB: www.thelabormama.com/birth & use the code PODCAST to save 20%In this refreshing, judgment-free conversation, I sit down with Andrea de la Torre, a sleep consultant of 8+ years, mom of 3, author, and the calm voice behind Baby Sleep Answers. She ditches the “one right way” for baby sleep and dives into what actually helps babies (and exhausted parents) sleep better. What’s inside this episode:Every baby is different →Temperament, birth order, reflux, gut health, and even prenatal experiences all shape how a child sleeps. What worked for baby #1 might flop with baby #2.Sleep science + knowing your baby = magic combo:Understand wake windows (as flexible guidelines, not rigid rules), circadian rhythm, and adenosine buildup - then tweak everything to fit YOUR child’s personality and sleep needs.High vs. low sleep needs is real:Some babies genuinely need 14–15 hours total; others thrive on 10–11.Well-rested (not over-napped) begets better nights:Sometimes you HAVE to wake a sleeping baby to protect nighttime sleep.Overtired ≠ just “really tired”:Pushing past a baby’s wake window triggers cortisol and adrenaline, making sleep harder. Some babies are super sensitive to this; others roll with it.Don’t keep baby awake to “tire them out”:Stimulation is great (outdoor time, talking, baby massage), but exceeding wake windows backfires.Take what works, leave the rest:No one method works for every baby.Sleep affects the whole family:Partners who split nights (or at least talk specifics before baby arrives) see faster progress - and less resentment.Helpful Timestamps:01:23 Diving into Baby Sleep Challenges07:21 Understanding Baby Temperaments and Sleep15:43 Navigating Social Media and Sleep Advice25:57 Understanding Your Child's Temperament and Sleep29:27 Waking a Sleeping Baby: When and Why32:46 Balancing Activity and Rest for Better Sleep41:00 The Role of Parental Communication in Baby's Sleep47:27 Resources and Final ThoughtsMore from Andrea de la Torre:Visitbabysleepanswers.comBaby Sleep CoursesInstagram:@babysleep.answersAbout your host:🩺🤰🏻Lo Mansfield, MSN, RNC-OB, CLC is a registered nurse, mama of 4, and a birth, baby, and motherhood enthusiast.
