| 4/2/26 | ![]() Magic Mushroom Hour w/Omega Why we listen to Classic Rock Episode 2356 | Tremendous… we are tuned into the frequencies tonight. We open with a classic from David Bowie — “Space Oddity”, then move into Stephen Stills & Manassas, followed by one of my favorite songs from the Doobie Brothers. From there, we drift into Steve Winwood and Traffic off John Barleycorn Must Die. John Lennon is up next with one of his timeless cuts, and then on to the music of Beck. We just follow the signal… and let the music lead the way. From there, we step back into the psychedelic sounds of the ’60s with a couple of tunes from Mike Pinera and Iron Butterfly, heading into the sweet, soaring sounds of Manfred Mann. A little harmonica? We’ve got Blues Traveler and Big Head Todd, carried by the unmistakable sound of John Popper’s mouthpiece. Then we pick up the pace with the Black Crowes, Living Colour, Dave Meniketti, and another cut from Blues Traveler. Heading into the finale, we settle into a long set from the boys from Liverpool, followed by the Moody Blues, and a couple of very moving songs from Tumbleweed Connection and Elton John. We ease into the close with Harry Nilsson, John Lennon, Uriah Heep, and finish the night with “Sweet Nuthin’” from the Robinson Brothers. We follow the signal… and the music always brings us home. I am Omega… a traveler of frequencies. Tonight we open another doorway through sound —a place where forgotten bands live again, and where the songs of the past still breathe. Great songs… great writers… and timeless sounds from another time. Our journey through the soundwaves comes to a close for tonight. The vinyl may stop spinning, but the music never really ends.Somewhere out there, another song is waiting to be discovered. Until we meet again on the long cosmic road…Keep your mind open, your heart free, and let the frequencies guide you. Good night, travelers. Headphones are recommended — or download the show to your car audio system. Remastered classic rock was meant to be heard this way, especially since most of us no longer have the stereo systems we grew up with in the 1970s. Remember those Magneplanars… or the old ESS towers? This is an FM broadcast on North Carolina Public Radio —no ads, no promotion, no money involved — just the love of music. Classic Rock and Progressive Rock. If you enjoy long-form tracks and deep musical journeys, this is your station. Sometimes mellow, sometimes hard — always three hours of nonstop, commercial-free music flowing together the way great radio once did… with just a little of that 1970s weirdness mixed in for fun. If you’re a headphone listener, this is your place. Every track is decompressed and remastered before it reaches the airwaves. It’s all about the music — nothing more.Let the sound carry you. | 3/27/26 | ![]() Magic Mushroom Hour w/Omega Some Things Never Change Episode 2354 | Tremendous lineup tonight… we are tuned into the frequencies. We open with a beautiful song from Tom Petty, then drift into Jethro Tull, followed by Crosby, Stills & Nash. From there, we head west, into the San Francisco sound with Joni Mitchell, before hearing from the lads from Liverpool who changed music forever. A sweet groove follows with Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina, then back to San Francisco with Eric Burdon. Along the way, we’ll spend some time with Neil Young, step into the psychedelic colors of Strawberry Alarm Clock, and roll through Elvin Bishop. We’ll hear one of my favorite tracks from Frank Zappa, followed by The Zombies, then a mini-set from Crosby, Stills & Nash, and the roots of it all with Buffalo Springfield. The journey continues with the amazing sounds of Fleetwood Mac, another mini-set featuring Graham Nash, Neil Young, and Stephen Stills, and we close the night with Van Morrison from St. Dominic’s Preview, gently interrupted by Asleep at the Wheel with Ray Benson. We just follow the signal… and let the music lead the way. I am Omega… a traveler of frequencies. | 3/20/26 | ![]() Magic Mushroom Hour w/Omega traveler of frequencies Episode 2353 | Tremendous lineup tonight… the stars have aligned. We’ll be traveling through the sounds of Adam Duritz and Counting Crows, Steely Dan, Steve Winwood and Traffic, and Jethro Tull. From there, we move into Graham Nash, Cat Stevens with a touch of Rick Wakeman, the unmistakable guitar of Ritchie Blackmore, and the brilliance of David Bowie. The journey continues with Procol Harum, Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina, and the harmonies of Crosby, Stills & Nash — and maybe… even a little Young along the way. We’ll also hear from Joe Walsh and Harry Connick Jr., before finishing the night with a long, powerful set featuring Terry Kath and Chicago. I am Omega… a traveler of frequencies. | 3/13/26 | ![]() Magic Mushroom Hour w/ Omega Music nothing more Episode 2352 | I am Omega… a traveler of frequencies. Tonight we open another doorway through sound —a place where forgotten bands live again, and where the songs of the past still breathe. We begin with Canned Heat, then drift into early psychedelic sounds from Steve Miller, followed by Mike Pinera and Iron Butterfly. From there we move into a long set from Jim Morrison and The Doors, before traveling onward to The Electric Prunes. Along the way, John Lennon reminds us exactly who he is, and David Crosby’s immortal “Wooden Ships” carries us across the waters of another time. Keeping that same spirit alive, we hear Matthews Southern Comfort interpreting Neil Young, followed by “When You Dance, I Can Really Love” from the man himself. The night continues with some great cuts from Hookfoot, setting the stage for the unmistakable guitar of Ritchie Blackmore. We move into Rush, followed by a powerful long-form piece from Deep Purple, and the modern-day spirit of Tom Sawyer. As our journey begins to wind down, we close the evening with Billy Idol, The Doobie Brothers, and The Church with “Under the Milky Way.” Great songs, great writers, and timeless sounds from the past. | 3/6/26 | ![]() Magic Mushroom Hour w/Omega Let the Music Set you Free Episode 2351 | Tonight’s program felt just right — leaning a little toward Country-Blues Classic Rock, the kind of music that inspires and sends us back to a sweeter time. We opened with a short set featuring Silas Crane, The Red Clay Strays, Charlie Starr and Blackberry Smoke, and Chris Robinson. From there, we dug into a few beautiful cuts from bands many people haven’t heard in nearly fifty years, starting with The Blue Jems and moving on to Waning Crescent. The night also included a couple of great songs from the Fogerty Brothers and Creedence, along with David Crosby and The Byrds. One of my favorites followed — Susan Tedeschi performing a Bob Dylan song — before drifting into Stevie Winwood and Traffic from the album When the Eagle Flies. We kept the groove going with The Black Crowes, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and the powerful pairing of Paul Kossoff and Paul Rodgers. Later, we heard “Back Pages” with Eric Clapton and Tom Petty, along with a couple of early tunes from the lads from Liverpool. To close the show, we finished with some wonderful music from Chris and Rich Robinson, some of the best cuts from Creedence, a great track from Chicago, and finally signed off with Firefall. Great songs, great writers, and timeless sounds from the past. Headphones are preferred, download to your car audio! Remastered Classic Rock is always better this way, since we don’t use the stereo systems from the '70s anymore. Remember those Magma Planners, or ESS towers? | 2/20/26 | ![]() Magic Mushroom Hour w/Omega | Tonight on North Carolina Public Radio No Rules. No Playlists. No Corporate Fingerprints. This isn’t algorithm radio. This isn’t “greatest hits.”This is the deep end. We’re cracking open Zuma with Neil Young — not the safe tracks, the real ones. From there, we drift north with The Guess Who, then drop into the haunting brilliance of Lucky Man by Greg Lake. You want progressive? We’re stretching out with a long-form ride through Heart of the Sunrise by Yes — the way it was meant to be heard: immersive, layered, unapologetically epic. We’ll move through the country-tinged soul of Poco and Stephen Stills, hit orbit with Marching to Mars from Sammy Hagar, and then settle into a heavy, groove-soaked set with Jack Bruce of Cream alongside Robin Trower, closing that run with their thunderous version of White Room. Expect the cinematic depth of the Moody Blues, fire and grit from Buddy Guy and Beth Hart, Southern soul courtesy of Gregg Allman, something sharp and unexpected from Charlie Worsham, and a swaggering finish with Rod Stewart and Faces. This Is How It’s Supposed to Sound Headphones are recommended.Car systems encouraged.Tiny phone speakers need not apply. Every track is decompressed and remastered before it hits the airwaves. We respect the dynamic range. We honor the quiet parts. We let the loud parts breathe. Remember when stereo systems were furniture? When speakers were taller than your kid? That spirit lives here — but with modern clarity and zero compression fatigue. What You Won’t Hear No ads.No sponsorship reads. No corporate “programming strategy.”No safe, sanitized rotation. Just three straight hours of Classic Rock and Progressive Rock — deep cuts, long tracks, forgotten gems, and just enough ‘70s strangeness to remind you music used to take risks. Sometimes mellow.Sometimes hard.Always intentional. If you like songs that stretch past the radio-friendly edit…If you miss when albums were journeys…If you want radio that still feels dangerous… This is your station. Turn it up.
