Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. We're almost finished with M Night Shyamalan! This episode we watched Knock at the Cabin, and next time we'll be back with the most recent M Night movie Trap We've got a pretty good one! M Night is able to take a short and fairly well edited script and some excellent performances and turn out a fun if thin and messy take on a home invasion thriller (slop lord continues his work?) Couple Eric and Andrew are vacationing in the Pennsylvanian woods with their adopted daughter Wen when four weapon-weilding strangers (lead by human giant/elementary school teacher Leonard) force their way into the cabin and tie everyone up. These four have been having apocalyptic visions, and their goal is to get one member of the young family to sacrifice themself, and be killed by the other two, to prevent the end of the world. One by one the intruders kill themselves to herald a new disaster while the couple while Andrew and Eric figure out if that sacrifice is possible or even desired. Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Glass, and next time we'll be back with Old. A fairly boring movie about nothing, M Night wastes what potential there is in his "super"powered characters by keeping them separate and alone for the whole movie, going to therapy instead of doing anything. And they don't even do a lot of therapy! Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), and Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched The Visit and next time we'll be back with Split. Also have you seen our most recent Patreon episode, the Last Airbender watchalong that Austin joined us for? It's good! We've got a new bonus in the can too, the Season 1 crew reassembled to record an episode on the non canon movie Phantom Rouge, so stay tuned for that! In this one, a pair of siblings try to avoid dealing with their feelings about their absent father by trying to fix their mom's feelings about her estranged parents. They do this by going to the middle of nowhere to meet them for the first time while making a documentary about it. Unfortunately, they're in a horror movie, so it goes way bad! Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) and Jack De Quidt (@notquitereal), the first thirdest guest on Media Club Plus season 2 (but the third thirdest overall) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a selection of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched The Village and next time we'll be back with Lady in the Water. The Village is an isolated, idyllic(?) settlement deep in the forest, surrounded by dangerous, territorial, but ultimately peaceable creatures called, by the Villagers, The Ones We Don't Speak Of. In this movie a generation of elders use fear and love to control a new generation of children, but the promises of the outside world (and the increasing danger and dissatisfaction inside the village itself) is too strong a call. The Village is a movie about where Peace and Innocence come from, how evils are movtivated by love and fear, but without a solid grasp on the answers to those questions. Sometimes boring and slow, sometimes exciting and beaituful, and often shallow and patronizing. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online), Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel), ans Jack De Quidt (@notquitereal) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a bunch of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Unbreakable and next time we'll be back with Signs. Unbreakable is a movie I had basically never heard of, so that's fun. In a million years I couldn't have told you that M Night immediately followed up on the success of The Sixth Sense with another Bruce Willis movie. And it's a superhero movie. I think you could fairly call it the first modern superhero movie but I've got nothing to back that up with. I can tell you it really feels like a prototype for all the pre-iron man superhero movies of the 00s. Bruce Willis plays David Dunn, a security guard failing as a husband and a father who has to come to terms with the fact that he has superpowers, under the guidance of Samuel L Jackson's mysterious and wealthy character Elijah Price. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Ali Acampora (@Ali-online) and Arthur Martinez-Tebbel (@amtebbel) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com To find the screenshots for this episode, check out this post on our patreon, friendsatthetable.cash This episode was made with support from listeners like you! Thanks everyone for listening to all of Media Club Plus's inaugural season! And a special thank you to everyone who wrote in questions. I'm happy to say it's not truly over yet, as we have at least TWO if not three more season 1 bonus episodes to do, including the extremely late next part of our Dragon Ball Z coverage. We also all owe it to Sylvi to watch Phantom Rouge. This is not even to mention eventually returning in some form for some HxH manga episodes. No promises, but... I think we all would like to do at least SOMETHING. I really hope everyone will stick around for our M Night season before we transition into our next big thing. We've already recorded several episodes and I'm having a lot of fun as the know-nothing guy. Sorry this one is late! I had a crazy week and then I was sick for a bit. Next week you can expect The Sixth Sense in the feed AND a brand new bonus ep: M Night's directorial debut, self-starring in Praying With Anger. Featuring Keith Carberry (@KeithJCarberry, @KeithJCarberry), Jack de Quidt (@jdq) Sylvi Bullet (@SYLVIBULLET), Andrew Lee Swan (@swandre3000), and Austin Walker (@AustinWalker) Produced by Keith Carberry Music by Jack de Quidt (available at notquitereal.bandcamp.com) Cover Art by by Annie Johnston-Glick (@dancynrew) anniejg.com Since this is our final episode, and it's a Q+A, there are no screenshots. But you should take a look at friendsatthetable.cash anyway. If you've enjoyed the show but are not a supporter, consider it! There's tiers to fit literally any budget and it's a great way to show us you like what we do. ...Or find our merch here http://friendsatthetable.shop To find transcripts of the episodes, go to http://TranscriptsattheTable.com A link to Tom's figma board concerning the Succession Wars
