Atman was born and grew up in Balkan part of Turkey where he got the main influence for his music. He fell in love with Darbuka after he met his master Misirli Ahmet. He went to the Sinai Desert in Egypt with his master to explore depth of rhythm. After this journey, he had a turning point in his music journey. Being influenced by Indian, Balkan, Middle Eastern and Latin Music makes Atman’s music pretty unique. | 6/7/21 | ![]() Nina Angelo_ From a Rock to a Hard Place...and Beyond | Nina Angelo was born in Athens, Greece, shortly after WW2 and migrated to Sydney, Australia in June 1949 with her parents, both survivors of the Nazi concentration camps. In the early 60s, Nina nourished her passion as an artist at the National Art School, experimenting with many art forms before settling on her life-long journey with textiles. Her community work and artistic and cultural heritage led her on countless adventures across Australia, the Pacific Islands and ultimately, back to Europe. While overcoming significant challenges from ‘frying pan to fire’; Nina has founded, coordinated, publicised, taught and work-shopped creative and community arts and festival events, for over thirty years. She is a colourful character with a gift for connection with people of all ages and cultures. In 2009, Nina was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her ‘Service to the Arts and the (NSW) Central Coast community’. Her wider Australian contribution to community and culture has been recognised through a range of honours, awards and positions including Artist in Residence in Fiji through Australia Council for the Arts, two Australia Day Community Awards, the Governor of NSW Children’s Week Award for her work in remote locations, and an Edna Ryan Feminist Award for her life’s work empowering women and sharing their stories through the arts. An influential part of the Australian roots music scene & renowned as the world’s first didgeridoo-beatboxer, Nathan Kaye, is a globe-trotting one-man-band who thumps out songs on slide guitar, slide didge & electronic foot-drums. Kaye’s step-father, Yabu Bilyana, was Aboriginal. Nathan got given his first Yidaki (didge) when he was in his teens by a full-blood Pintjantjarra tribesman who said, “You been black fulla before.” Kaye got circular breathing within the first few days of starting. Having invented blending human beatboxing into the didgeridoo way back in the 90’s, Nathan was invited to perform his didge-beatboxing at the UK Beatbox Championships, Glastonbury Festival & other festivals over there in 2005, which spread the technique throughout the UK & Europe. But really, at the core of his multi-tasking abilities lies a big-hearted man with a powerful mission to inspire people to make the most of the gift of life, with his talent-packed show that has to be seen to be believed. Daphne is a spirited, soulful artist and teacher originally from Texas. Her passion for music started from a young age and took her west to Los Angeles after university. Since her initial yoga class 20 years ago, she has explored merging her spiritual practice with her contemporary folk singer songwriter style. She studied music at The University of Texas at Austin, The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, kirtan with Jai Uttal and sound healing with Jonathan Goldman. She has travelled extensively sharing her music and teachings around the world.Her music has been featured on yoga music compilations released by Soundstrue, Samahita and Yoga Music JP. She has recorded albums around the world including, Bali (Mata), Hawaii (Finding Water), Koh Samui (Samahita Live), Kyoto (Arigato) and her newest album Soulsongs, recorded in Nagano, Japan. Daphne has been teaching yoga since 2004 after completing multiple teacher trainings in Los Angeles, California.
