| 5/26/26 | ![]() 70 | The One App That's Stealing Your Time and What to Do About It for a Clearer, Less Distracted Mind | One app on your phone is quietly pulling your focus, your time, and your peace, and chances are, you already know which one it is. This episode cuts straight to the point. Not a full digital detox, not a complete phone overhaul, just one small, targeted shift that has the potential to change the shape of your entire day. Discover three practical filters for identifying your most distracting app, whether it's social media, email, the news, or something else entirely. Then choose from three levels of action, each one designed to interrupt the automatic habit loop that keeps pulling you back. Small change, real impact. This is where it starts. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why identifying just one app, rather than overhauling everything, can create almost immediate relief. What three quick filters reveal about your most automatic and time-stealing digital habit. How a simple folder rename can be enough to interrupt the mindless pattern keeping you stuck. Why the boldest option for dealing with your most distracting app might be more accessible than you think. What happens in your brain when you reduce easy access to a deeply habit-forming app. How a seven-day challenge with just one app can prove you are more free than you believe. | 5/19/26 | ![]() 69 | Forget Mindless Scrolling. Why Good Screen Time Might Be the Sneakiest Digital Distraction Threatening Your Faith and Focus | Mindless scrolling gets all the attention, but what if the real problem is your good screen time? Digital distraction doesn't always look like doomscrolling or wasted hours on junk content. Sometimes it looks like twenty minutes of wholesome, completely defensible scrolling that still leaves you feeling strangely empty when you close the app. This episode unpacks the good, better, best framework for your phone, grounded in Scripture and practical habit change. Through the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10 and Paul's prayer in Philippians 1, you'll discover why even good screen time can quietly crowd out your best life. You'll also walk away with three simple, doable ways to start choosing better and best this week, no drastic phone detox required. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why closing Instagram after good content can still leave you feeling strangely empty and unfulfilled. What the story of Mary and Martha reveals about your relationship with your phone today. How to tell the difference between screen time that fills your time and screen time that feeds your soul. Why better is not just about using your phone less but about using it more intentionally. What best screen time actually looks like and why it does not require a special occasion to experience. How one simple question, asked before every phone pickup, can shift your relationship with your phone. Why the version of you living your values already knows what best looks like for you. | 5/12/26 | ![]() 68 | How Phone Addiction Keeps You Task Switching All Day, Stealing Your Focus, Draining Your Energy, and Leaving You Exhausted | Something is draining your energy every single day, and it probably has nothing to do with how much sleep you got or how full your schedule was. Every time you pick up your phone, your brain stops what it was doing, shifts gears, and tries to find its way back. Science calls this task switching, and it is happening dozens of times a day without most of us ever realizing it. This episode breaks down what task switching is actually doing to your brain and your body, why it shows up as physical exhaustion by evening, and what you can start doing today to protect your focus, your productivity, and the peace you are genuinely longing for. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why multitasking is a myth and what your brain is actually doing instead The eye-opening number of times the average person picks up their phone every day How task switching raises cortisol levels and why that shows up as physical fatigue What "attention residue" is and why your focus never fully returns after an interruption Why staying on top of everything throughout the day could be costing you nearly half your productivity What monotasking is and why it consistently leads to more satisfaction by the end of the day Why Philippians 4:7 has something important to say about the way you spend your attention Resources & Next Steps 🎯 Focus Modes Made Simple Join the Workshop! | 5/5/26 | ![]() 67 | Phone Anxiety, Scrolling for Counterfeit Peace, and Why Real Peace Lives in an Ordered Life | This episode explores why scrolling feels like relief but never actually brings peace. Do you reach for your phone the moment anxiety hits? That quiet moment at the end of the day doesn’t always feel peaceful. Sometimes it feels like tension you can’t quite shake, and your phone becomes the easiest place to run. You’ll uncover the deeper connection between anxiety and chaos, and why your phone often becomes a source of counterfeit calm. Drawing from Genesis and practical habit science, this conversation reframes what peace really is and where it actually comes from. Instead of chasing quick fixes, you’ll discover how small, intentional acts of order can begin to reshape your days, your attention, and your spiritual life in a way that creates space for something far more lasting. What You’ll Learn in This Episode Why anxiety is often a signal of chaos, not a lack of calm How scrolling creates a convincing but temporary imitation of peace What your brain is learning every time you reach for your phone Why real peace is connected to order, not avoidance How small digital habits quietly shape your spiritual life What it means to create space for God’s presence in everyday rhythms Resources & Next Steps🎯Focus Modes Made SimpleJoin the Workshop! | 4/28/26 | ![]() 66 | Want to Limit Screen Time for Your Whole Family? These Two Simple Ideas Are Where to Start | What if the most powerful change you could make for your screen time had nothing to do with your screen? In the final episode of this three-week series exploring tiny tweaks, the focus shifts entirely to where your phone physically lives throughout your day, and what that means for everyone in your home. A landmark study from the University of Texas at Austin found that simply having your phone within sight quietly drains your mental energy, even when it's completely silent. This episode introduces two simple ideas that tackle that problem at its root, one situational and one structural, both designed to reduce screen time without relying on willpower. Rooted in Psalm 46:10 and the Hebrew meaning of "be still," this episode closes the series with what may be its most surprisingly spiritual tiny tweak of all. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why having your phone nearby could be quietly draining your focus without you realizing it What a drop zone is and why it could be one of the most powerful habits your whole family shares Why the out of reach practice works even when your phone is face down and completely silent What the Hebrew word behind "be still" reveals about your posture toward your phone Why where your phone lives at home might matter more than any setting or app timer ever could Resources & Next Steps 🍽️ 50 Conversation Starters for Screen-Free Family Dinners A free resource to help your family stay present and connected around the dinner table without a screen in sight. 📅 30-Day Digital Habit Reset Ready to go deeper? | 4/21/26 | ![]() 65 | Doomscrolling Stealing Your Best Hours? Two Simple Phone Changes That Can Take Them Back | Doomscrolling isn't always something you choose. Sometimes your phone simply pulls you in before you've had a chance to think, and this episode is about taking that power back. This is part two of a three-week series exploring what happens when you make tiny tweaks to your phone setup, because small, intentional changes have a way of creating transformation that willpower alone never could. Every notification your phone sends is designed to bring you back to the screen, and research shows that a single interruption can cost you the better part of half an hour of real focus. In this episode, two tiny tweaks tackle what interrupts you throughout your day. One removes the signal your phone uses to summon you. The other replaces it with something far better. Rooted in the story of Elijah and the still small voice in 1 Kings 19, this episode asks a simple question: what if reducing the noise around you made more room for the voice that matters most? What You'll Learn in This Episode Why a single notification could be costing you far more time and focus than you realize What doomscrolling has to do with the interruptions hiding in your notification settings Why turning off just one notification is more powerful than it sounds What your lock screen has to do with how present you feel throughout your day Why the still small voice of God is surprisingly connected to how you manage your phone Resources & Next Steps 🎯 Focus Modes Made Simple Join the Workshop! This episode explores the growing analog bag movement and why it is becoming a powerful response to phone addiction and digital overload. | 3/31/26 | ![]() 62 | Are You Scrolling Past Easter? A Holy Week Invitation to Put Down Your Phone, Pick Up the Cross and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus | What if the most important moment in history unfolded right in front of you, and you were too distracted to notice? This episode begins on a crowded street in Jerusalem and invites you to slow down, step into Holy Week, and consider what it truly means to fix your eyes on Jesus in the middle of noise, busyness, and distraction. Through a powerful reflection on the Via Dolorosa (the road of suffering Jesus walked along) and the lived experience of the disciples, you’ll be challenged to examine where your attention has been resting and how easily even meaningful seasons like Lent can slip by unnoticed. Grounded in Scripture and real-life application, this episode offers a timely Holy Week invitation to come as you are, re-engage the Easter story, and make space for what matters most. Hebrews 12:2 calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, and this conversation helps you explore what that looks like practically in a world designed to pull your attention elsewhere. What You’ll Learn in This Episode Why the scene on the Via Dolorosa reveals something deeply relevant about modern distraction How everyday busyness can cause you to miss what matters most spiritually What the disciples’ responses during Holy Week teach us about attention and awareness Why your attention is not neutral but something that is actively being shaped and pulled What it means to fix your eyes on Jesus in a practical, lived-out way A simple and meaningful way to engage the Easter story through Scripture this week How resurrection connects to the habits and patterns shaping your daily life Even if you’re listening outside of the Easter season, the invitation to fix your eyes on Jesus and live in the power of the resurrection is available to you every single day. A Prayer to Begin Your Relationship with Jesus Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. I believe you came to this earth and went to the cross willingly, because of your great love for me, to pay the full penalty for my sin. Every mistake. Every regret. Everything I've carried and everything I've hidden. You paid for all of it. I am sorry. I turn from what I know is wrong, and I turn toward you. I know I can't earn this. I know I don't deserve it. But I receive it today as the gift that it is. I believe you conquered sin and death when you walked out of that tomb alive. And I am asking you now to come into my life by your Holy Spirit, to forgive me, and to make me new. I surrender my life to you. I receive you today as my Lord and my Saviour. Amen. | 3/24/26 | ![]() 61 | The Phone-Free Zone You Need in Your Home and the One Change That Research Proves Reduces Your Screen Time | In this episode, I’m sharing one of the simplest and most effective habit shifts you can make to reduce screen time and reclaim your attention. Research shows your phone doesn’t even need to be in your hand to distract you. Simply having it nearby quietly drains your mental energy and reduces your ability to focus. We’ll talk about the surprising research behind what scientists call “brain drain,” why limiting where you use your phone works better than limiting how long, and how your environment plays a powerful role in shaping your habits. Then I’ll walk you through three rooms that make the biggest difference when it comes to creating phone-free spaces in your home and why each one matters for your focus, relationships, and rest. What You'll Learn Why your brain works harder when your phone is nearby — even if you're not using it The surprising study that showed people performed 11% better mentally when their phones were in another room Why screen time limits often fail (and what works better) The habit science behind cues, triggers, and environment design The hidden relationship damage caused by “phubbing” at the dinner table Why your bedroom might be the most important phone-free space in your home The slightly gross reason you might want to stop bringing your phone into the bathroom Resources & Next Steps: Take the Screen Time Personality Quiz and get your 3-Day Digital Peace Plan - a free guide to help you reset your screen habits and reclaim your focus. 👉Screen Time Personality Quiz 🎯Get the Focus Modes Made Simple Workshop 👉Join the Workshop Let’s Connect!Share your experiences by leaving me a voice message through Speakpipe on my website! No notification. No real reason. Just… reach, unlock, scroll. In this episode, I’m sharing a surprisingly simple fix that can interrupt that autopilot habit because most of the time, you’re not actually choosing to scroll, your phone just makes it incredibly easy to get there before your brain even catches up. The moment between reaching for your phone and opening an app has basically disappeared. One option is already in your settings. The other is a simple app that has been shown to reduce app usage by over 50%. If you’ve ever caught yourself scrolling without even remembering picking up your phone, this episode will give you a practical way to take back that moment of choice. What You’ll Learn in This Episode Why 89% of phone checks happen without a notification How modern phones remove the pause between impulse and action What research shows happens when you add a 10-second pause before opening apps Two simple ways to create a “speed bump” that interrupts mindless scrolling Why reclaiming the pause is both a habit strategy and a spiritual practice 🎯Get the Focus Modes Made Simple Workshop 👉I'm Ready to Focus! | 3/10/26 | ![]() 59 | The Spiritual Practice Hiding in Your Camera Roll That Helps You Practice Gratitude and Hear from God | What if the very device that often distracts you… could actually draw you closer to God? Your phone is full of thousands of photos, ordinary moments, quick snapshots, silly memories, sunsets, screenshots, and moments you didn’t want to forget. But what if those photos are more than memories? What if your camera roll is actually a quiet record of God’s faithfulness in your life? In this episode, I’m sharing a simple but powerful spiritual practice that pairs something you already use every day — your phone — with an ancient prayer practice called the Examen. Your brain is wired to remember the hard things more easily than the good ones and over time, that can give us a distorted view of our own lives but your camera roll often tells a different story. When you slow down long enough to look back, those photos can help you notice moments of joy, connection, beauty, and even the places where God was quietly at work in moments you might have completely forgotten. In this conversation, I’ll explain how your phone can actually become a tool for spiritual reflection, gratitude, and deeper awareness of God’s presence in your everyday life. Once you see it this way, you may never scroll through your camera roll the same way again. In This Episode, We Talk About Why your phone doesn’t have to be the enemy of your faith The ancient prayer practice called the Examen How our brains tend to remember negative experiences more than good ones Why photos can reveal moments of God’s faithfulness we might otherwise forget How slowing down and reflecting on your life helps you recognize God’s presence If you’ve ever felt like life moves so fast you barely have time to process it this practice might become one of the simplest ways you reconnect with God in the middle of your everyday life. Listen to the episode to learn how to use your camera roll as part of this powerful spiritual reflection practice. The Wake-Up Call for Anyone Struggling with Phone Addiction Who Feels Overwhelmed | Have you ever had that moment where you realize… you’re technically awake, but you’re not really present? In this episode, I’m talking about the wake-up call most of us don’t want to answer: we’ve stopped noticing. We’re moving through our days on autopilot, reaching for our phones without thinking, reacting to pings and notifications, and calling it normal. | 2/10/26 | ![]() 55 | What One Year of Showing Up Taught Me About Focus, Consistency, and Trust (Plus a Giveaway!) | 🎉 The podcast turns ONE this week! And I’m reflecting on everything this first year of podcasting has taught me about focus, momentum, grace, and learning to trust God in the unseen. This episode is raw, real, and slightly raspy (hello, post-cold voice), but I knew I couldn’t let the one-year anniversary pass without showing up to share what this journey has meant to me. If you’re in a season of starting something new, trying to stay consistent with a project, or wondering if the small steps you're taking are actually making a difference, this episode will speak right to where you are. Over the past 55 episodes, I’ve learned that clarity often comes after you take action, not always before. I’ve discovered how faithfulness over time builds momentum in ways motivation can’t. I’ve felt the quiet tension of creating something without visible results, and the deep peace that comes from trusting God with the outcomes I can’t measure. I’ve stumbled through perfectionism, embraced messy progress, and even learned that I kind of love the tech side of podcasting. But most of all, I’ve been reminded again and again that this work isn’t just something I do for others, it’s shaping me, too. I’m also sharing a sneak peek into what’s coming next: a new workshop called Focus Modes Made Simple. This 1 hour workshop is designed to help you stop defaulting to distraction and start using your phone with intention. Focus Modes are one of the most overlooked features on your device, but when customized well, they can protect your time, support your spiritual rhythms, and help you stay fully present.
