On the first episode of the second season of Pink Noise, Chloë Ester discusses the traumatic events that inspired her debut release Dying All The Time. We begin our conversation by acknowledging the relentless chaos of 2020 and how it affected her plans for releasing her music. Jordan Perry is a songwriter and guitarist who has been involved in many projects. He has recently released two albums of classical guitar compositions. I wanted to interview Jordan when I learned that he once worked as a guitar teacher at a school in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank of Palestine. In this interview Jordan refers to his own process of creating music as a mode of inquiry. This mode of inquiry allows him to meditate on and explore systems and patterns that catch his attention. But his aim is more to explore and pose questions, rather than to seek resolution. Nicole Yun is the singer, guitarist and songwriter of Eternal Summers - the road-tested indie surf-rock band from Virginia. We hear about Eternal Summers and taste some of their music in this episode, but Nicole Yun's latest project is a debut full length solo album called Paper Suit, which will be released under her own name on June 7. We talked about what inspired her to make a solo record, and how she got into indie rock after studying music composition and performance in college. Paper Suit will be out on June 7th. Today we're going to hear from Gemma Gamarra and Marco Albano, members of the Barcelona-based band Berlinist. They are the creators of the soundtrack of the video game Gris. I met Gemma & Marco in 2013 when I was on tour in Spain. At the time, Gris was not yet in development, but it was clear Marco was interested in combining his passion for music and games. The idea of the game Gris started with illustrator Conrad Roset - the game's Art Director. Playing the game involves exploring a beautiful and strange world based on Conrad's illustrations. The player has to solve location-based puzzles to advance to new areas. Gemma & Marco's soundtrack enhances the otherworldly feeling. Gris has been nominated for a bunch of awards. They've received 4 nominations in the 2019 SXSW Gaming Awards including Excellence in Musical Score, Excellence in Art, Excellence in Visual Achievement, Most Promising New Intellectual Property. I talked to Gemma & Marco about working with the art director and programmers to compose their music and incorporate it into the game.

GULL is the music performance project of Nathaniel Rappole. In this episode we'll hear about a documentary film he produced called Street Muse Kenya, and his plans for the second installment of the project in Southeast Asia. Rappole is now planning his next iteration of Street Muse, to take place in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
