| 10/13/26 | 085: One Sales Mistake Cost Me a $40,000 Photography Deal | I broke my number one rule of sales. The rule I teach my students over and over again. The rule I know better than to break. And it nearly cost me the biggest deal of my photography career. We're talking about a nearly $40,000 opportunity from a single family photography session. The client loved the work, approved the proposal, and was literally asking how she could pay me. And instead of taking her credit card, I told her I'd send an invoice later. Big. Fucking. Mistake. Within 45 minutes, the deal was gone. But here's where the story gets interesting. Instead of letting my bruised ego take over, I asked myself a better question: What does this client still need that only I can provide? That one question helped me turn what could have remained a $10,000 sale into a $21,000 client. In this episode, I'm walking you through exactly what happened, the money block I didn't realize I had, the sales mistakes I made, and how I managed to salvage $11,000 after hearing no. Because understanding sales isn't just about knowing how to close. It's about knowing how to think when things don't go according to plan. In this episode, I talk about: The number one sales rule I broke and why it matters for photographers How a family photography session turned into a nearly $40,000 opportunity Why creating an incredible buying experience is only half the equation The unexpected money block that made me hesitate when my client was ready to pay Why having all decision-makers present matters for high-ticket sales How I lost a $29,000 order during a 45-minute drive back to my studio Why hearing "no" doesn't necessarily mean the entire opportunity is gone How I restructured the deal to recover $8,000 in print sales and another $3,000 in referral revenue Why understanding your value gives you more options when a sale falls apart How confidence in your business helps you navigate mistakes without letting your ego take over If this episode hit home and you're ready to build the machine behind your ambition, enrollment for Posers | The Mastermind is officially open. | 10/6/26 | 084: Ambition Can Still Keep You Broke | Ambition Is the Feeling. Strategy Is the Action. Last episode, I gave you permission to want more. This episode, I'm telling you what to do with it. Because ambition on its own isn't going to get you anywhere. Ambition is the feeling. Strategy is the action. And nowhere do I see ambitious photographers get more stuck than in their marketing, where the default answer to a slow month is always "I just need to post more." In this episode, I'm walking you through why running a photography business has never been easier and has never been more distracting, why human behavior hasn't changed even though marketing has, and how every old-school marketing strategy still exists today with a modern makeover. I'm also giving you the exact marketing workweek I'd build for you if your calendar isn't full... and then explaining why that schedule alone still isn't enough. In this episode, I talk about: Why ambition is the front loader and strategy is what backs it What "I just need to post more" is covering up Why it's easier than ever to run a business, and why so many photographers are still struggling The four things people still need before they book you, no matter what decade it is How networking, the Yellow Pages, coupons, sales letters, trade shows, and word of mouth all still exist in your business today, in modern form Why a pretty portfolio is one piece of the system and not the system The 100. 50. 100. marketing workweek, and why it adds up to roughly 25 to 30 hours The questions that separate a schedule from a strategy Why views aren't the goal, and bookings are The difference between generating attention and monetizing attention (and why your free photoshoot giveaway got you 10 new followers and zero bookings) How to stop being busy at marketing and start building a machine If this episode hit home and you're ready to build the machine behind your ambition, enrollment for Posers | The Mastermind is officially open. | 9/29/26 | 083: I’m So F*cking Sick of This | There’s a message I keep hearing in the photography education world, especially directed at moms building businesses: “Every time you say yes to your business, remember that you’re saying no to your children.”And… no surprise here… I’m fucking sick of it. Because underneath that seemingly innocent advice is a much bigger conversation about mom guilt, ambition, money, and what we’ve decided a “good mother” is supposed to look like. In this episode, I’m getting personal about why I hear that message so differently, how my own childhood shaped the way I think about money and motherhood, and what happened when I actually lived the version of motherhood we’re so often told we’re supposed to want. We’re talking about building a business while raising kids, financial independence, motherhood and ambition, and the guilt women are handed when they dare to want both. And before you assume this is an argument for choosing your business over your kids... it’s not. This is an argument for something much bigger. Listen to the episode before you decide what you think I’m saying. | 9/22/26 | 082: Myths Costing You Thousands | I've been doing this podcast for a while now, and lately I feel like we've been moving fast. Quick lessons, straight into tactics, on to the next thing. This episode is me hitting pause on that, on purpose. I want to talk about in-person sales, and specifically, the three myths that are keeping so many of you from ever trying it. Not because IPS is complicated. Because you've been told things about it that just are not true. Here's what sparked this one. A few weeks ago I was driving into the studio and the idea for this episode hit me. That same day, within twelve hours, I got a voice note from a photographer I'd barely spoken to. She told me exactly what was scaring her about making this switch. It lined up with what I'd been thinking about that morning, so I knew I had to build the episode around her words instead of mine. In this episode I'm breaking down the three myths I hear more than anything else. You have to dramatically raise your prices to do IPS. You have to start selling albums and frames and take on a whole new workflow you don't have time for. Your current clients will get angry and leave you. None of them are true, and I walk through exactly why and how to understand IPS better so that we can change your mindset around it. I talk to you about a student who made over twenty two thousand dollars in a single month selling nothing but digitals (no products at all!!) And the real story of what fifteen years of an all-inclusive model actually cost me. Spoiler, it's well over a million dollars. If you've been putting off IPS because you're scared of one of these three things, this episode is for you. And if you're ready to actually build this out in your own business, the pricing structure, the reveal process, the launch system, that is exactly what we work on together inside the Mastermind. For the first time ever, I'm backing it with a guarantee. | 9/15/26 | 081: Don't Wait Until January: 7 Moves to Make in Your Photography Business Now | You have 11 weeks left in this year. That's it. And if your fall isn't looking the way you hoped it would, it would be really easy to tell yourself you'll just get through the holidays and start fresh in January. New year. New strategy. New you. Except... didn't you say the same thing about 2026? The photographers who are going to be fully booked with the right clients in 2027 aren't going to start building that business on January 1st. They're doing the boring, unglamorous groundwork right now. In this episode, I'm giving you seven moves you can make before the end of the year to set yourself up for a very different 2027. We're talking brand clarity, content that actually builds authority, email lists, social proof, collaborations, and making it stupidly easy for someone who finds you to actually hire you. Because later doesn't exist. Later is just you kicking the thing you know you need to do a little farther down the road. And, Posers? It's go time. In This Episode, We'll Cover: Why waiting until January to work on your business is already putting you behind How to get painfully clear on exactly who you serve and what you want to be known for The simple “I help ___ feel ___ through ___” exercise to clarify your brand Why you need one repeatable content series instead of reinventing the wheel every week How sharing your actual opinions builds authority and attracts the right clients The three jobs your Instagram bio needs to do Why your profile should have ONE obvious next step for someone ready to hire you How to start building an audience you actually own instead of relying entirely on Instagram Why you should be collecting testimonials, screenshots, client reactions, and other proof constantly How getting in front of other people's audiences can grow your business faster than only posting to your own Why you don't need thousands of followers. You need the right people to understand what you do, trust that you can do it, and know exactly how to hire you. You have 11 weeks of runway left. Don't wait for 2027 to start building the business you want in 2027. Start now. | 9/9/26 | 080: Dummy Maxxing: Why Your Expertise Is Killing Your Content | You're not too basic. You're not boring. You're just too smart for your own content, and it's costing you bookings. This week I break down “dummy maxxing,” a concept I came across in a carousel that stopped me mid scroll, and I tie it straight back to something I said a few episodes ago: the stuff that feels like basic common sense to you as the expert reads as pure genius to your clients. The problem was never your knowledge. It's that nobody's translating it into something your audience can actually picture happening in their own life. In this one, I get into: why “your kid can be as energetic as they want, I'll still capture the magic” doesn't land the way you think it does the three step framework I use for turning what you already know into captions and pitches that actually convert five real before-and-after examples, including the exact lines I use for a pricing conversation, a posing pitch, and a newborn session. Also in this one: the one on one with a mastermind student this week that I couldn't stop thinking about, and why consistency alone was never going to be enough. | 9/1/26 | 079: How to Leap (Even when you’re Terrified) | I'm breaking my own rule this week. Usually I wait until I've already lived a lesson before I hand it to you wrapped up nice and pretty — this time I hit record in the middle of it, scared, with no idea yet how it ends. It starts with one of those days where everything pops off at once: wins flooding the group chat, an inquiry landing for next year's Mastermind, waitlist signups rolling in. Then, almost on the heels of that high, my operations manager dropped a conversation I wasn't ready for one that means nearly doubling what I spend every single month, with no guarantee the revenue shows up to match it. In this one, I get into: The high of watching wins pour into the group chat… and why that feeling is proof something bigger is moving. The real, un-cleaned-up moment my ops team asked me to double monthly spend, and why I cried about it before I said yes. Why "force the standard instead of shrinking back" sounds inspiring as a concept and feels completely different when it's your own number on the page The exercise I've used since my divorce… to help make big decisions even when they are terrifying. Why this is an open-loop episode: no resolution, no bow on top, just what the messy middle actually looks like from inside it If you're sitting on your own version of this… a new hire, a hard commitment, a level you know you need to step into… this episode isn't going to hand you an answer. | 8/25/26 | 078: You're Tracking the Wrong Number | Confession: I am painfully Type B about my business. I despise spreadsheets. I barely look at my P&L. The only number I actually check is the year to date tab in Stripe, green means I'm on track, red means tighten up, and that tells me almost nothing about what's actually happening underneath it. So I stopped tracking the outcome and started tracking the behavior instead, and it's the single biggest thing that's taken me from panicking every quarter to feeling calm about where this business is headed. In this episode I walk through the scale versus protein grams idea that changed how I think about this completely, why checking your revenue once a quarter is the business equivalent of weighing yourself once a week and having no idea why the number didn't move, and what to track instead so you always know, daily, whether you're doing the things that actually lead somewhere. This is the same shift that's helped me scale from $40,000 a year to over half a million, and it's a core part of what I teach inside the Mastermind. | 8/18/26 | 077: Simple Sales Is Simply Sabotage | I ruffled feathers the last time I went after a pricing model in this industry. This time I'm doing it again, and I'm not sorry. If you're running Simple Sales, sometimes called Collections, where clients pick a number of images before the session and get the option to upgrade to the full gallery later for a small fee, this episode is your mirror. I break down exactly why this model isn't a simplified version of IPS. It's the opposite of IPS. It removes the buying moment, the guidance, the urgency, all of it, and leaves your client alone on her couch with a gallery and a budget she picked before she ever saw her kids' faces in it. I scored five common pricing structures against ten factors that actually drive a sale, things like emotion, guided decision making, scarcity, and revenue that isn't capped. True IPS hit all ten. Simple Sales hit zero. The only model on the entire table that failed every single one.One of my students made the switch off this model and went from $4,500 on a mini shoot series to over $20,000 with the same number of sessions. I'm not coming for you if this is your model. I'm coming for the model. Come find out why simple doesn't mean better, it means less, and decide for yourself what your business actually needs. | 8/11/26 | 076: The Two Minute System That Made Me $13,000 | I used to think building a mockup meant hours in ProSelect, a couple hundred bucks on Etsy templates, and still ending up with something so flat it looked like a paper doll with a Velcro dress. Then I finally had one thought that changed everything. One of my clients had forty foot vaulted ceilings, gorgeous floating shelves, and absolutely nothing on them. I built her the same lifeless two dimensional mockup I always did, hated it, and finally asked, what if AI could do this instead. Turns out it could, and it took two minutes to build a mockup so real it looked like a designer had already been through her house. A $13,000 wall in about two minutes. In this episode I'm breaking down exactly what I did, the five step system so simple you'll want to kiss my toes, why your brain remembers a picture a thousand times better than a sentence, and how to stop proving frames will fit and start selling the actual dream. In this episode, we'll cover: Why ProSelect and Etsy mockups are actively killing your close rate The real client story behind a $13,000 gallery wall The five step process, in order, so you can use it today The psychology of why a finished image sells harder than any pitch How to stop selling prints and start selling a feeling Want to steal the exact prompt process? | 8/4/26 | 075: Fear Doesn't Leave. You Just Stop Listening to It. (Part 2) | Last week, Laura shared what it looked like to build a business while fear was riding shotgun. This week, we're talking about what happened when she finally stopped letting fear drive. In Part 2 of our conversation, we get into the actual changes that transformed her business. Not because she found some secret marketing hack, but because she committed to showing up consistently, saying what she actually believed, and trusting the process long enough for it to work. Laura shares how she found her voice through sticky marketing, why she stopped trying to sound like every other photographer, and how embracing what made her different helped her stand out in a crowded market. We also dive into the launch that completely shifted her business. What started as a goal of booking just three sessions quickly turned into 17 bookings, a 387% increase in revenue, and the beginning of a business she finally felt proud of building. The best part? None of it happened because she became fearless. It happened because she kept showing up anyway. In this episode, we'll cover: Why "sticky marketing" is about being memorable—not louder How Laura found the courage to say what other photographers wouldn't The power of building your business around your convictions instead of trends Why consistency matters more than perfection on social media How one launch grew from a goal of 3 sessions to 17 booked clients The mindset shift that led to a 387% increase in revenue Why community and accountability accelerate growth faster than trying to figure it out alone How launching creates demand instead of constantly chasing new clients The surprising reason people are paying attention—even when it feels like no one is listening Why the business doesn't change first... you do. | 7/28/26 | 074: Fear Doesn't Leave. You Just Stop Listening to It. (Part 1) | What if the biggest thing standing between you and the business you want... isn't your pricing, your portfolio, or your marketing? What if it's fear? In this first half of a two-part conversation, I sit down with one of my Mastermind clients, Laura Stansberry, to unpack what fear actually looks like in business—and spoiler alert: it rarely announces itself as fear. Instead, it disguises itself as perfectionism. Overthinking. Waiting until you're "ready." Convincing yourself you need one more website update, one more course, or one more tweak before you put yourself out there. Laura shares the incredible story of how she built her photography business from scratch by cold-emailing 50 preschools with no portfolio, no reputation, and nothing but the willingness to hear "no." But after experiencing success, fear showed up in a completely different way—and nearly convinced her to walk away from photography altogether. This episode is about the subtle ways we sabotage ourselves, the lies we tell ourselves in the name of "playing it safe," and why building a successful business almost always requires acting before you feel ready. And we're just getting started. In this episode, we'll cover: Why fear almost never sounds like fear How Laura landed her first photography clients by cold-emailing 50 preschools Why success can sometimes trigger more self-sabotage than failure The hidden danger of only marketing your business when you have something to sell How "playing with the pretty" keeps photographers stuck for years The mindset shift that separates photographers who grow from photographers who stay busy Why visibility—not talent—is often the missing ingredient in a successful photography business How fear disguises itself as perfectionism, productivity, and "just one more thing" Timestamps:00:00 Podcast Cold Open00:40 Fear And Readiness01:30 Meet Lara And Her Turnaround04:43 In Studio Catch Up07:23 Lara Origin Story11:17 Starting With Schools12:18 Landing Clients Fast17:15 Covid Derails Plans20:12 Boutique School System25:14 From Profit To Collapse27:49 Visibility Reality Check28:48 McDonalds Marketing Lesson30:27 Playing With The Pretty32:40 Santa Launch Burnout34:42 Cornered By Messaging38:20 Fear Of The Ask42:58 Silence Equals No45:49 Retreat Investment Math47:23 In App Purchases Warning49:27 Kismet And Wrap Up 🔗 Connect with Laura:📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laurastansberryphotography/ 🔗 Connect with Jodi:📸 Website: https://www.j-annephotography.com📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/j.annephotography Love this kind of coaching?Make sure you’re on my newsletter list where I share the behind-the-scenes of launches, pricing, posing psychology, and what it really takes to scale a photography business with soul. 📣 Help Spread the Word! The Mastermind Waitlist → If this episode lit something up for you, if you recognized yourself in the pattern of working hard without seeing the growth you know you're capable of the Posers Mastermind is where we fix that. | 7/21/26 | 073: The Price of Ordinary | I just got home from two unforgettable weeks in Italy, and somewhere between watching my teenage boys make questionable decisions in St. Mark's Square, crying on the flight home, and trying to shake off the jet lag, I realized something… The vacation wasn't just the reward. It was the receipt. In this episode, I'm sharing the unexpected business lesson that hit me thousands of miles from home: ordinary isn't safe—it has a price. And if you want an extraordinary life, you have to stop waiting until you "make it" before you start living like the person you're trying to become. We dive into the psychology behind why experiencing your dream life—even in small, affordable ways—changes your identity more than another vision board ever could. I talk about the research on future-self thinking, why your standards shape your reality, and how forcing yourself into a bigger life often comes long before you feel ready for it. In this episode, we'll cover: Why "playing it safe" may be the riskiest decision you're making. The psychology of future-self identity and why it changes the decisions you make today. Why vision boards aren't enough (and what actually creates momentum). How to experience the life you want before you can fully afford it—without being financially reckless. The investment I made as a broke single mom that completely changed the trajectory of my business. Why raising your standards is often more powerful than setting bigger goals. How extraordinary lives are built one uncomfortable decision at a time. If you've been waiting for confidence, permission, or the perfect moment before going after the life you really want, this episode is your reminder that the cost of staying ordinary may be higher than the cost of changing. | 7/14/26 | 072: My Aversion to Sales Cost Me a Fortune | There is one moment in my career that still makes me cringe. Years ago, I stood outside a breakout session at a photography conference while a stranger tried to convince me to attend a class on sales. I refused. I thought sales meant being pushy, manipulative, and everything I never wanted my business to become. Looking back, I can honestly say that decision cost me more money than almost anything else in my career. In this episode, I'm sharing the exact 8-step sales framework I wish someone had forced me to learn years earlier. This isn't about scripts or convincing people to buy. It's about learning how to ask better questions, listen more than you talk, and help people articulate what they actually want before you ever make an offer. Whether you're booking discovery calls, running in-person sales sessions, or simply trying to feel more confident talking about your pricing, this framework will completely change the way you think about selling. Because the best salespeople aren't the ones who talk the most. They're the ones who listen the best. In this episode, we'll cover: The biggest mistake I made that held my business back for years. The 8-step conversation framework I use for both discovery calls and in-person sales. Why most clients aren't actually buying "photos." How to uncover what people really want before you ever mention your pricing. Why silence is one of the most powerful sales tools you'll ever use. The moment you should finally make your offer—and what to do immediately afterward. If sales has ever made you uncomfortable, this episode will completely reframe what it actually means to sell. | 7/7/26 | 071: Staying Affordable Will Ruin Your Business | I keep hearing the same thing over and over right now... in my DMs, on coaching calls, inside the Mastermind. Photographers telling me they're stuck. They tried to raise their prices, bookings dried up, they panicked and dropped back down, and now they're too scared to touch their pricing again. I'm going to tell you why that fear is pointed in the wrong direction. Staying stuck in the middle of the market isn't playing it safe, it's the fastest way to price yourself out of business completely. In this episode, we'll cover: Why the market right now looks like a barbell — busy at the cheap end, untouched at the luxury end, and getting crushed everywhere in the middle Why you can't just "decide" to go luxury when you need bookings fast — and what actually earns you that tier of client The real story of a photographer who dropped her prices to save her business, and lost her best clients in the process What happened in my own studio with a client who spent over $10K in one sitting — and what she said while handing me her card that changed how I think about pricing forever The scarcity mindset loop keeping photographers underpriced, and why it has nothing to do with your talent Three things to focus on if you're the $800 photographer trying to move up: positioning over pricing, real relationships over marketing, and designing for rare instead of available "You keep pricing your work off of your own bank account instead of hers." | 6/30/26 | 070: The Preset Was Never the Problem | This episode is a little different. It's not about marketing. It's not about pricing. And it's definitely not about presets. It's about the stories we tell ourselves. After a conversation with a photographer who told me she'd purchased hundreds of preset packs over the last decade and still wasn't happy with her editing, I realized we weren't actually talking about Lightroom anymore. We were talking about confidence. We were talking about perfectionism. We were talking about the exhausting habit so many of us have of searching for an external solution to an internal wound. And that's where this episode goes. I share a deeply personal story about one of my closest friends growing up, body image, and the realization that the same distorted thinking that can affect the way we see ourselves often sneaks into the way we see our work, too. In this episode, we'll cover: Why buying another preset probably isn't going to solve your problem The surprising connection between body image and creative confidence How perfectionism quietly disguises itself as productivity The psychology behind why we keep "tinkering" instead of moving forward Why the hardest work in your business usually has nothing to do with photography The question I want every photographer to ask themselves before opening Lightroom again How self-doubt keeps us stuck and what it looks like to finally call it by its real name If you've ever found yourself endlessly tweaking your galleries, chasing the "perfect" edit, or convincing yourself that you'll finally market your business once your work is "good enough"... Your excuses are. This episode is packed with tough love, real talk, and practical perspective that will challenge the way you think about your business and the woman running it. In this episode, we'll cover: Why "I don't have time" is usually a prioritization problem. The identity shift from photographer to CEO. Why there is no such thing as the "right time." | 6/16/26 | 068: STOP. Collaborate and Listen | Yes. I am quoting Vanilla Ice. Yes, it shows my age. I don't care. Because before you roll your eyes and keep scrolling... I need you to actually stop and listen to what I'm about to say. This might be the most important conversation we've had on this podcast yet. Your ideal clients are out there right now. They are spending money. They are trusting other businesses with their time, their attention, and their wallets. And they have absolutely no idea you exist. Not because your work isn't good enough. Not because your prices are too high. Not because the market is too saturated. Because you are waiting to be found instead of going where they already are. This episode isn't about strategy. I'm not handing you a script today. What I AM doing is dismantling the mindset that is quietly keeping your business smaller than it deserves to be — because no amount of strategy works until this part does. We're talking about fear. Rejection. What it actually costs you to stay invisible. And why Jen Gottlieb is right when she says that being found isn't just a goal — it's your responsibility. The how is coming. And when it does, it's going to change everything. But first — we fix the brain. Tits up and ears open. | 6/9/26 | 067: How $1k Vintage Dishes Turned Into a Lesson on Marketing | I was supposed to go to Lowe's. My husband and I were out running errands and I remembered that Grouse House an antique and vintage home goods warehouse that an interior design client had been telling me about for weeks was having a sale. So I made an executive decision that a Saturday at a gorgeous warehouse full of vintage European furniture sounded a lot better than a Saturday looking at plastic planters under fluorescent lighting. I did not expect to spend a thousand dollars. I also did not expect to walk out with a collaboration in the works, a lunch date on the calendar, and a Matriarch session booked. But that's what happened. And in this episode I'm walking you through the whole thing the DMs, the content, the collab pitch that happened mid-candle-order because I think the way it unfolded is more useful to you than any strategy I could draw up on a whiteboard. I also want to talk about something my girl Laura Stansberry brought up in my Posers membership when I shared this story, because she named a pattern that I know a lot of you are stuck in too, where you try to do a collaboration, end up giving away a free session, get one post out of it, and never hear from them again. That's not a collaboration. And by the end of this episode you'll know exactly what the difference is. Here's what we're getting into: Why I've always treated every room I walk into as a room full of my next clients and how that mindset was born when I was shooting weddings The behind-the-scenes content habit that has done more for my personal brand than any portfolio post ever has What actually happened at Grouse House and why the alignment between our businesses made everything easy The real DMs including the part where I pitched a collaboration in the same message where I was ordering a candle How the Matriarch session got booked without a single sales conversation The difference between a collaboration and an influencer deal (this one is important) A 7-step playbook you can take and use in your own market today This is one of those episodes where the story is the strategy. I hope it makes you want to get your boots on the ground. | 6/2/26 | 066: Pratt Boy Summer | Apparently we're having a Pratt Boy Summer. Not because Spencer Pratt should be mayor of Los Angeles. But because he accidentally became one of the most fascinating marketing case studies I've seen all year. After stumbling across a breakdown of his campaign, I realized something that photographers, business owners, and creators need to hear:The market doesn't always reward the most qualified person. It rewards the person people can't stop talking about. In this episode, we're unpacking cult psychology, audience building, attention economics, reality television, Taylor Swift, Apple, political campaigns, and why Spencer Pratt seems to understand something about human behavior that most business owners completely miss. We'll talk about belonging, common enemies, shared language, building a world around your brand, and the surprising reason some people become impossible to ignore while others stay invisible despite having more talent, experience, and expertise. And yes...We're also talking about the confidence of a mediocre white man.Tits up and ears open. | 5/26/26 | 065: Proof Your Clients Will Spend More | Over Mother’s Day weekend, I forced my boys to watch The Devil Wears Prada with me… and somewhere between the marble countertops, Milan fashion houses, and casual “weekend at Lake Como” energy, I realized this movie perfectly explains luxury psychology. Because luxury buying behavior is not just about money. It’s about aspiration, belonging, identity, status, emotional experience, and the environments we’re invited into. In this episode, I’m unpacking:• Why humans are naturally wired to aspire upward• The psychology behind luxury buying behavior• Why people buy within the environment you create for them• How photographers accidentally cap their own revenue• Why trying to drastically raise your prices overnight will tank your business• The difference between simply charging more and creating a buying environment that supports higher spending• Why your current “budget clients” may actually be capable of spending far more than you realize I also share a real story involving two clients from the exact same affluent private school — one who thought nobody would ever spend $5K on senior photos… and another who spent $5,500 without blinking. Same level of wealth. Completely different buying environment. And honestly? That story alone might completely change how you think about pricing, luxury, and client psychology. If you’ve ever wondered how photographers create high-ticket sales without alienating their current clients… this episode is your proof. | 5/12/26 | 064: Champagne Taste, Hold the Beer Budget | Luxury is not an all-white studio and a good logo. In part two of this luxury series, I’m diving into the thing photographers overlook the most when trying to attract higher-end clients: the client journey. Because luxury is rarely one big dramatic thing. It’s usually a thousand tiny details working together to make people feel taken care of. In this episode, we’re talking about: • Why affluent clients are really buying emotional certainty • The subtle details that increase perceived value • Hospitality, presentation, and why your energy matters more than you think • The difference between “expensive” and truly luxurious • Why some brands simply feel elevated from the very first interactionI’m also sharing the story behind the highest sale I’ve ever had inside of my studio… which happened right in the middle of recording this luxury series. Funny how that works. If you’ve ever wondered why some photographers feel instantly premium before you even inquire… this episode is going to connect a lot of dots. | 5/5/26 | 063: Defining Luxury and Refining Your Portfolio | This episode came straight from a DM with a photographer who’s ready to move into a higher-end market but isn’t sure how to make that shift without losing her current clients. We’re breaking down what luxury actually means (hint: it’s not just a higher price tag), how to research your specific market instead of guessing, and why your client experience starts the moment someone inquires. But the real focus? Your portfolio. We’re talking about the difference between “good” images and images that reflect taste… how to study art in a way that actually translates to modern portrait photography… and what affluent clients are really noticing in your work. We also dive into curation—on your website and your Instagram—and how small inconsistencies, outdated content, or lack of intention can quietly shift perception. This is about refining, not adding. Because luxury isn’t louder… it’s more intentional. | 4/28/26 | 062: Photography Blindness, Do you have it? | Do you remember that Febreze commercial with the teenage boys who couldn’t smell their own room? Yeah… that’s your marketing. In this episode, I’m calling out something that most photographers don’t even realize they’re doing… and it’s quietly killing your ability to book. You’ve been in this industry for so long that you’ve started filtering out the exact things that would make clients trust you. You’re posting what impresses other photographers… instead of what actually converts your clients. And the worst part? The thing that would make you stand out… is the exact thing you’ve stopped talking about. I’m breaking down: What “photography blindness” actually looks like in your content Why your marketing might all be starting to sound the same The subtle ways you’re accidentally making yourself look replaceable What your clients actually need to hear from you to trust you And how to shift your content so it builds authority instead of just getting likes This is one of those episodes that might sting a little… but once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And when you fix it? That’s when your marketing actually starts working. | 4/21/26 | 061: Photo Pirate of the Caribbean | I just got back from the Dominican… and I accidentally walked straight into a live masterclass on sales psychology. We booked a private boat charter. It came with a photographer. And within five minutes… I knew exactly how this was going to go.What I didn’t expect? Was that this man — posing every couple the exact same way, running what most photographers would call a “cringey” shoot — would absolutely clean up in sales. And not by accident. In this episode, I break down everything I observed in real time:• The identical posing formula he used on every single couple (and why it didn’t hurt his sales)• The emotional manipulation tactic he saved specifically for the women — and why it worked• How he controlled the room without anyone realizing it• Why “better photography” does NOT equal more money• The subtle moments where he anchored value before anyone ever saw a price• And the biggest mistake photographers make when they rely on their work to do the selling This episode isn’t about judging his work. It’s about understanding human behavior. Because he wasn’t selling photos. He was selling emotion, urgency, and identity. And if you can’t do that… it doesn’t matter how good your work is.
