| 5/28/24 | ![]() Pranayama for Winter & the Water Element | Welcome to this exploration and expansion of the square breathing or Sama Vritti technique as a means to access the still, descended silence of Winter and the Water Element. Breathwork practices are a profound way to support the seasonal transition from Metals descending, contracting forces to Waters formless state. The practice contains both full and empty breath holds as well as measured breaths in a building 20-minute sequence. This is a smaller section of a whole practice that was delivered live in May 2024. Suitable for all levels of students. | 0m 33.33s | ||||||
| 1/27/24 | ![]() Pranayama for the Late Summer Days | In this practice, we lean into the inherent heaviness of the humidity that characterizes the Late Summer phase and the element of EARTH. A slowed-down, observation-rich sequence suitable for practitioners with some experience in the basic pranayama techniques. Breathwork includes variations of Ujjai (Ocean breath), Agni Sari (alternating bellows breath) and Viloma (Interrupted breathing). Seeking ground is a deliberate thing, and moving from transmitting to receiving can feel awkward and ungainly. Hence the support of the Late Summer phase and the energies that take us Earthwards like the heavy grains and fruit-laden crops ripe and ready for the harvest. | 0m 33.33s | ||||||
| 1/2/24 | ![]() Pranayama Out of Time | In this pranayama practice, we move in counterflow to the sped-up, activated Summer season of Fire by slowing down the perception of time. Here we temper the unwound energies of full Yang bringing them back into containment, alignment and grace. Pranayama, when practised like this, can profoundly reverse our to-do list from something time-pressured and stress-inducing to a wide open space where creativity and inspiration can flow - and yet everything still gets done. Breathwork includes Ujjai (victorious breath), variations on Pratyloma (extended inhalation), Suraya Bedhana (sun breath) and an alternating nostril variation of the classic one-minute breath. This practice is suitable for all levels of students with space given for each to find their own depth and pace. May this return you to the field of space and time where the magic happens daily. | 0m 30s | ||||||
| 11/16/23 | ![]() Pranayama for Spring | In this pranayama practice, we endeavour to assist the work of Springs Wood Element with a steadying practice. Smoothing the edges of Spring where it can fray with urgency in its desire to move and grow. Pranayama is a powerful way to quickly and efficiently find a re-set when life feels like you've had too much coffee. Breathwork includes Ujjai (victorious breath), Sama Vritti (square breath) and a variation on Pratyloma (extended inhalation) punctuated by retentions and integrations. This practice is suitable for all levels of students with space given for each to find their own pace and depth accordingly. I hope this meets you exactly where you need it most. | 0m 30s | ||||||
| 9/29/23 | ![]() Pranayama for the Threshold | In this practice we wind into the state between Winter and Spring, Water and Wood, imagining and Becoming. This is an almost 30-minute continuous sequence of combinations of Kaphlabhakti (bellow breath) and Sama Vritta (Square breathing). An elevator ride into your own depths and the space in the psyche where dreams take shape. Pranayama experience is recommended for this practice. Nor suitable for brand-new beginners. | — | ||||||
| 9/15/23 | ![]() The Long Breath | Here on the first of Springs New Moons, we call the energy that creates mountains and contains oceans, we draw from the deep roots of the trees, and from nature’s diversity and inclusion. This is a process of clearing and grounding, of opening to the springtime, Wood energy cycle and dreaming in the New Earth frequencies on a personal and a collective level. Pranayama includes Ujjai breath, Kaphlabhakti (bellows breath), breath holds and Anuloma (extended exhalation) | 0m 55.55s | ||||||
| 8/8/23 | ![]() Venus in the Underworld | This 30-minute guided journey is designed to support the powerful phase of the Venus cycle that sees her disappear below the horizon. She takes this dive every 500 or so days and carries with her the mythology of Innana, Persephone and all the Goddesses who make the journey to reclaim the Self from the dark places. This year (2023) the journey extends from August 6 - 21. During this arc of her cycle, she moves into the unseen where she reworks her Heart, integrates her wounds, tends to her inner realms, and emerges bright and strong as the morning star. | — | ||||||
| 6/1/23 | ![]() Solar Pranayama | This 30-minute pranayama practice begins with attention to the seat or the Earth of the process before launching skywards and into the solar codes. At a time of increased solar activity, a practice like this will help to ground and assimilate the light codes quickly and efficiently. This class includes an Agni Sari or alternating bellows breath sequence combined with breath holds and acute observation of the Light Body. We conclude with a soft nurturing Auloma or extended exhalation practice to bring about a beautiful start to your meditation practice, or your day, as the case may be. | — | ||||||
| 5/9/23 | ![]() Pranayama & the Outgoing Tide | In this 30-minute breathwork practice, we explore space, levity and gravity. Merging with the sound of the breath we empty ourselves of the old tides, the old beliefs, and all the old yesterdays that can be hard to let go. We range through a moderately complex Kaphlabhakti sequence, wound into a series of breath holds variations. Whilst accessible for beginner students it may not be the best place to start. | — | ||||||
| 4/14/23 | ![]() The Spirit of the Lungs | In the Chinese Five Element system, each of the Yin organs has a Spirit with different implications, gifts, and resonances. The Lungs move with the Spirit called Po, a formless, transcendental being that exists with us for one lifetime, entering at birth and dissolving at death, and so bookmarking our earth experience. The Po guides our discernment and helps us recognize right from wrong, truth from fiction, and pure from impure, such is Po’s mettle. While shy and ephemeral, Po will rise gently called and can be observed as one might appreciate the mist that surrounds the top of a great mountain. This practice includes a sequence of lung pounding, which is a little left of field, and a winding version of Viloma (interrupted) breathing that together leads us to the pinnacle where Po can be seen, known, and appreciated. | — | ||||||

| 4/14/23 | ![]() Pranayama in the Full Moon | Full Moons float us in the tides of release and letting go. In this 35-minute practice, we take the energy of the hot humid Late Summer phase of the Five Elements and craft it into a meaningful sequence of cooling, stilling, untangling, and letting be. The sequence includes Sama Vritti pranayama (also known as the box breathing technique), Nauli or belly churning, and the beautiful Sheetali, Queen of the heat. I would recommend this practice for those with a little experience in pranayama, or those looking to extend their current level. Some techniques are slightly advanced for a brand-new beginner. | — | ||||||
| 4/12/23 | ![]() Pranayama for Autumn | In this 30-minute breathwork practice, we explore the Metal Element through the Lung Pound sequence - a must for immunity as well as the blues, and a slow deep Viloma (interrupted breathing) sequence. Together these breathing techniques light us up under the skin, allowing the bustle of the external world to fall into background noise, and the Light Body to step forward in grace. This practice is suitable for practitioners of all levels. | — | ||||||
| 4/12/23 | ![]() Pranayama for Purity | In this 30-minute breathwork practice, we range between Ujjai (Victorious Breath) Kaphlabhaki (Bellows breath), and some play on various empty and full breath retentions with a twist (or a hip lift in this case). We call the Light Body to presence and sense its fields growing in strength and viscosity as we deepen the meditative state round by round. | — | ||||||
