| 7/28/24 | ![]() Testicular Cancer Awareness with The Oddballs Foundation and 19 year old testicular cancer survivor Jamie Young | On today’s episode of Say It How It Is, Ffion and Gwen are joined by The Oddballs Foundation Manager, Kieran Kelly and 19 year old testicular cancer survivor, Jamie Young. Oddballs was founded back in 2014, and uses wild, wacky and wonderful underwear prints as a way of creating conversation and awareness around testicular Cancer. Shortly after in 2015, The Oddballs Foundation was set up to act as the main charity affiliate to the brand and continue to spread awareness and tackle the stigma- delivering workshops and talks, with their now 50 university ambassadors across the UK. Jamie is the incoming Oddballs Foundation University Ambassador for Reading University. In 2019 at the age of just 14, Jamie was diagnosed with testicular cancer after experiencing hip pain and going to get it checked out. This was just the beginning of his journey. The cancer has unfortunately spread to both his pelvis and lung, which required multiple rounds of chemotherapy and major operations. Following his recovery, Jamie is now keen to share his experiences with as many people as he can, raise awareness and contribute to breaking down barriers in talking around the topic. This episode provides huge insight into both what The Oddballs Foundation strives towards and how Jamie reacted to and dealt with his diagnosis and treatment, to bounce back and see life as he does today.Click the follow button to stay up to date on the latest episodes, and leave us a 5 star review! And remember… to keep saying it how it is!Instagram:@sayithowitisspodcast - https://instagram.com/sayithowitisspodcast?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@ffionalicelewis - https://instagram.com/ffionalicelewis?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@gwencrabb - https://instagram.com/gwencrabb?igshid=NzZlODBkYWE4Ng%3D%3D&utm_source=qr@oddballsfdn - https://www.instagram.com/oddballsfdn?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==Tik tok:sayithowitiss - https://www.tiktok.com/@sayithowitisss?_t=8gcJlLFHuPg&_r=1ffionalicelewis - https://www.tiktok.com/@ffionalicelewis?_t=8gcJsxoYsAi&_r=1gwencrabb - https://www.tiktok.com/@gwencrabb?_t=8gcJtcqSJCC&_r=1oddballsfdn- https://www.tiktok.com/@oddballsfdn?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pcShow producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle Hosted on Acast. | 6/30/24 | ![]() Supporting others with safe spaces with Ollie Olds and Lloyd Ashley | On today’s episode of Say It How It is, Ffion and Gwen are joined by Ollie Olds, mindset mentor, and Lloyd Ashley, ex-professional rugby player and founder of Living Well. In this episode expect to learn all things finding purpose, the power of service and helping others, how perspective allows you to be grateful for what you have and how to provide a safe space for people to talk. Ollie went through his own journey through depression following 3 ACL injuries and being told he shouldn’t play again. Following this he went through a process of finding his identity and purpose again before becoming a transformation coach to help others do the same and reach their potential. Lloyd, after gaining many different qualifications alongside his rugby career, decided he wanted to study counselling and fell in love with the idea of bringing people together, creating connections and creating safe spaces to have conversations.Click the follow button to stay up to date on the latest episodes, and leave us a 5 star review! And remember… to keep saying it how it is!Instagram:@sayithowitisspodcast - https://instagram.com/sayithowitisspodcast?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@ffionalicelewis - https://instagram.com/ffionalicelewis?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@gwencrabb - https://instagram.com/gwencrabb?igshid=NzZlODBkYWE4Ng%3D%3D&utm_source=qr@livingwellwithlloydashley - https://www.instagram.com/livingwellwithlloydashley?igsh=eHh4cGU2bWNmYWlp@ollie_olds1 -https://www.instagram.com/ollie_olds1?igsh=aGxkZmk2OTNhbjNu@walkersonlypodcast - https://www.instagram.com/ollie_olds1?igsh=aGxkZmk2OTNhbjNuTik tok:sayithowitiss - https://www.tiktok.com/@sayithowitisss?_t=8gcJlLFHuPg&_r=1ffionalicelewis - https://www.tiktok.com/@ffionalicelewis?_t=8gcJsxoYsAi&_r=1gwencrabb - https://www.tiktok.com/@gwencrabb?_t=8gcJtcqSJCC&_r=1ollie.olds - https://www.tiktok.com/@ollie.olds?_t=8nV8RSbPPWr&_r=1Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle Hosted on Acast. | 6/2/24 | ![]() The ACL Epidemic with Ashton Hewitt and Consultant Stuart Roy | On today’s episode of Say It How It is, Ffion and Gwen are joined by Dragons professional rugby player Ashton Hewitt and Trauma and Orthopaedics Consultant, Mr Stuart Roy.Newport born Ashton, has grown his rugby career through an academy programme all the way to international honours. Unfortunately, he has experienced 2 ACL injuries, one in 2021(MCL and ACL) and one in 2023 (LCL and ACL). He is currently rehabilitating his current ACL injury in the hope to return to rugby at the end of the year. Stuart was appointed as a consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in July, 2005. He has a full-time NHS contract and specialises in sports injuries and all aspects of knee surgery. He has been clinical director and is currently Audit lead for his department. Stuart himself has experienced an ACL injury during his rugby career, so has a lot of empathy and understanding for his patients. During this episode, expect to learn about the mechanisms of ACL injuries, the difference in risk between males and females and all different graph options for this level of surgery. It is clear that there needs to be more research into the increase of ACL injuries and the girls discuss all different forms of preventative measures that need to be implemented in sport. Due to the massive rise in these extremely horrific injuries, and with Ffion and Gwen experiencing these themselves, we hope this episode provides some insight into the severity of this injury. | 12/24/23 | ![]() My Story with Ffion Lewis | t’s the end of season 1! And we have a really special episode to share with you to end our first season. On todays episode, our very own host Ffion takes the guest seat. When creating this podcast, Ffion made a pledge to herself that with having so many amazing guests sharing such vulnerable and inspiring stories, she herself felt she had a duty to do the same. Ffion is joined by her childhood best friend of 26 years, Kate Jones. The pair have been through everything together - nursery, primary school, secondary school, college and all life afterwards. Ffion brought Kate on the show to provide some emotional support and a perspective of what it was like growing up. Ffion shares some tough experiences from her childhood which she has not publicly spoken about before. After a year of mental growth, which Ffion has spoken about a lot during this season, she finally felt strong enough to share what she has been through to hopefully help people that may have been or are going through something similar. Ffion has used her struggles as fuel to create a life that was different to what people expected, one she could be proud of. So, there is always hope and we pray that this episode shows that. Please never give up hope. Always keep fighting for what you deserve and ALWAYS believe in YOU.Please like, follow and subscribe! You can stay up to date with all our social media channels here:Instagram:@sayithowitisspodcast - https://instagram.com/sayithowitisspodcast?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@ffionalicelewis - https://instagram.com/ffionalicelewis?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@gwencrabb - https://instagram.com/gwencrabb?igshid=NzZlODBkYWE4Ng%3D%3D&utm_source=qrTik tok:sayithowitiss - https://www.tiktok.com/@sayithowitisss?_t=8gcJlLFHuPg&_r=1ffionalicelewis - https://www.tiktok.com/@ffionalicelewis?_t=8gcJsxoYsAi&_r=1gwencrabb - https://www.tiktok.com/@gwencrabb?_t=8gcJtcqSJCC&_r=1Click the follow button to stay up to date on the latest episodes. And remember… to keep saying it how it is!Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle Hosted on Acast. This year hasn’t been the easiest for Alex after her mum sadly lost her battle against Cancer after fighting for many years. Just 2 months later, Alex not only returned to playing the sport she loves, but did so in the form of her life, winning a player of the match award in the final game against Italy.Alex talks openly about how difficult some of the last year has been for her and her family. But expresses how much she has learnt from her Mum, and how much she has learned to take each day as it comes, enjoy the little things and take time to be upset and grieve. Alex is a true inspiration to everyone that has the privilege of knowing her, she never takes life too seriously and is always laughing. We are in awe of how she has carried herself over these last few months and how you can see in everything that she does that all she wants is to make her mam proud. Never take any of your loved ones for granted. If there is anything to take from this episode, it is to hug everyone just that little bit tighter. They are joined by Danielle Waterman, ex GB and England rugby player, now turned commentator, pundit, coach and ambassador. Nolli has added many strings to her bow since life after rugby, but shares openly with the girls how tough some of this has been. Unfortunately, nolli has faced many negative comments and trolling being a female in the ‘male world’ of commentating. However, she is such a role model in a variety of ways, with her rugby CV alone being one. The girls thank Nolli for being an incredible ambassador for the women’s game and changing the narrative in so many different ways for the future. Please like, follow and subscribe! You can stay up to date with all our social media channels here:Instagram:@sayithowitisspodcast - https://instagram.com/sayithowitisspodcast?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@ffionalicelewis - https://instagram.com/ffionalicelewis?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==@gwencrabb - https://instagram.com/gwencrabb?igshid=NzZlODBkYWE4Ng%3D%3D&utm_source=qr@nolli15 - https://instagram.com/nolli15@womensrugbyassociation - https://instagram.com/womensrugbyassociationTik tok:sayithowitiss - https://www.tiktok.com/@sayithowitisss?_t=8gcJlLFHuPg&_r=1ffionalicelewis - https://www.tiktok.com/@ffionalicelewis?_t=8gcJsxoYsAi&_r=1gwencrabb - https://www.tiktok.com/@gwencrabb?_t=8gcJtcqSJCC&_r=1Women’s Rugby Associationwomensrugbyassociation.co.ukClick the follow button to stay up to date on the latest episodes. And remember… to keep saying it how it is!Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle/ Hosted on Acast.
