| 6/23/26 | ![]() Episode 84 - Cy Egger - What's Beyond a Hateful Reputation? | Episode 84 of FocalFlip features Cy Egger. For years, Cy carried a reputation that many in Northern Kentucky knew well. Some called him the funniest guy in the room. Others knew him as the guy who could light it up from three-point range. And many knew him as the man who wasn't afraid to tell people exactly what he thought—earning him the nickname of being one of the most hated men in Northern Kentucky. But what happens when you look beyond the reputation? In this episode, Mike and Cy take a deep dive into Cy's upbringing, the experiences that shaped him, and the reasons behind the personality so many people thought they knew. Cy openly reflects on using humor as both a gift and a weapon, recognizing that while it often made people laugh, it sometimes came at the expense of others. The conversation explores a side of Cy that few ever stopped to ask about—a man driven by kindness, loyalty, and genuine care for people. Cy also courageously opens up about some of his darkest moments, including his struggles with alcohol, depression, and thoughts of suicide. In a powerful and vulnerable discussion, he shares what it felt like to battle those internal demons and what ultimately helped him keep moving forward. Along the way, Mike and Cy swap old-school basketball stories, explore the complexities of the human mind, discuss communication and behavior, and challenge the assumptions we make about others. At its core, this episode is a reminder that every person is fighting battles we may never see, and that sometimes the people we think we know the most are the people we understand the least. This is a conversation about identity, recovery, resilience, accountability, and the power of being seen for who you truly are. If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, please know that help is available and that you do not have to face it alone. #FocalFlip #CyEgger #MentalHealth #SuicideAwareness #Recovery #Communication #PersonalGrowth #Basketball #Perspective #Podcast | 1h 27m 55s | ||||||
| 6/15/26 | ![]() Courage, A Coma, & A Comeback - Tyianna Trice & Whitney Dixon | In Episode 83 of The FocalFlip Podcast, Mike Kannady sits down with lifelong friends Tyianna Trice and Whitney Dixon for a powerful conversation about resilience, faith, friendship, and perspective. Friends since their days as student-athletes at Ryle High School in 2008, their bond was tested when Tyianna developed mastitis after childbirth, which led to an abscess, sepsis, and an 11-day coma. Doctors gave her only a 10% chance of survival, and when she woke up, she was faced with the reality of four amputations. Rather than focusing on what she lost, Tyianna chose gratitude for the life she still had. She shares her journey through recovery, the physical and mental challenges of rehabilitation, her faith in Jesus Christ, and the unwavering support of her husband Vince, family, and friends. She also opens up about growing up with a mother who struggled with addiction and how those experiences shaped her strength, resilience, and outlook on life. One of the most fascinating parts of the episode centers around Tyianna's vivid "Coma Dreams." After waking up, her family and Whitney began comparing those dreams to real-life events that occurred while she was unconscious—and the connections were remarkable. Whitney also shares her own journey with fitness, mental health, personal growth, and what it means to support a lifelong friend through unimaginable circumstances. Together, they explore disability awareness, accessibility, overcoming adversity, and the power of flipping your perspective when life doesn't go according to plan. This is a story of survival, gratitude, faith, friendship, and the incredible strength of the human spirit. | 1h 28m 35s | ||||||

The conversation includes stories from Nate's coaching days at Ryle, including the strategy of face-guarding Mike during their Simon Kenton vs. Ryle battles, lessons learned from Billy Donovan and Rick Pitino, memories from student teaching at Tates Creek, and a powerful story about drinking and driving as a teenager that came full circle years later in a tragic way. What began as a part-time position has evolved into a full-time leadership role, fueled by her passion for community and a growing interest in political science. For Arron, community isn’t just part of the job — it drives everything. We also explore Arron’s deeply personal journey with self-care. As someone who has always poured into others — as a wife, mom, employee, and leader — she reached a point where she realized she wasn’t fully utilizing her gifts and talents because she wasn’t caring for herself. Will grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, sharpening his game playing street football with smaller, faster friends who forced him to adapt, compete, and develop an edge early. That edge carried him to West Virginia University, and ultimately to the NFL, where he was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 88th overall pick. But this conversation goes far beyond football. Will opens up about:- What it really feels like to hear your name called on Draft Day - The mental health challenges inside the NFL - Getting cut, navigating free agency, and handling uncertainty - Why hard work is the true separator at the elite level - The mindset of greatness — and the “switch” that never turns off We also dive into Will’s faith, his love for Jesus, and how surrounding yourself with the right people is essential for protecting your mental, spiritual, and emotional health — especially in high-pressure environments. | 11/7/25 | ![]() Episode 61 - Nate Nunemaker (Farmer Nate's Sauce) - The Story behind The Story | In this episode, we dive deep into the story of Farmer Nate’s Sauce, a small-batch hot sauce brand born from one man’s pandemic hobby and now recognized on the national stage. Founder Nate Nunemaker — better known as Farmer Nate — started out as a city guy in Covington, Kentucky, who just wanted to grow a few peppers in his backyard. But when his habaneros and jalapeños exploded in abundance, he turned his harvest into handcrafted sauces that quickly caught fire. What started as a simple backyard experiment became a full-blown business that has grown distribution across multiple states in over 1000 brick and mortar stores such as Publix, Home Goods, Meijer, Jungle Jims and the online giant, Amazon. Nate’s philosophy centers on flavor over heat, sustainability, and the idea that food connects people. You’ll hear how Farmer Nate’s Sauce has racked up awards — including Most Unique Sauce and Best Spicy Seasoning at the 2025 International Flavor Awards — and built a loyal community around its signature creations like Kentucky Tang, Curry Jalapeño, Smokehouse Habanero, and the legendary Covington Gold Dust. Now, behind all of those Awards & Accomplishments lies a unique story. His story. He and his family weaved their way through many life challenges from the time that Nate was a young boy. Some of these challenges included dealing with the grips of addiction within the family, which led to a significant struggle in his upbringing. His superstar Mom would work three jobs just to make ends meet while he and his sister would stay over at his aunts or a friends house... only to be stolen from time and time again. From a life-changing car accident to bullying, to dealing with family tragedy & coming to terms with his own life mistakes, Nate has been through it all. But, he didn't let it define him. He decided to rise. He chose to look deep within himself and he started to peel away the layers. All of them. What he found? His authentic self and his purpose. The rest of the story speaks for itself and continues to be written... Well done young man. I'm proud of you. | 1h 14m 35s | ||||||
