The artwork shows a scene from the 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry, featuring William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The Bayeux Tapestry uses pictures to tell the story of the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England by William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, and his defeat of King Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The tapestry was made between 1067 and 1079, most likely by embroiderers in Canterbury, England, and probably for Odo, the Bishop of Bayeux. Although it is called a tapestry, the scenes are actually embroidered, not woven, onto the linen. It is the largest and best-preserved work of its kind from the Middle Ages. The tapestry is important not just for telling the story of the Norman invasion, but also for showing many details of medieval warfare and daily life. Today, the tapestry is on permanent public display at the William the Conqueror Centre in Bayeux, Normandy, France . The music is Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.
