From the filibustering adventurers of the 19th century to funding death-squads in the 1980s, American meddling in Central America has a long history. Today, Phil and Kyle discuss the beginning of the U.S. occupation of Nicaragua that extended from 1912 to 1933, the anti-intervention movement in the United States, and the guerilla fighter who's name has been adopted by the Nicaraguan socialists: Augusto Sandino. Banks and business interests dominated American foreign policy in Latin America, and we will be exploring some of the connections within the State Department and high finance that made the invasion of Nicaragua a reality.
