Aubrey’s recent performances include selling out two nights at Los Angeles’ legendary Baked Potato with Billy Childs in June 2024, opening for Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois, and for Soccer Mommy at Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, California both in the summer of 2023. About Tomoko Omura Tomoko Omura is a composer, violinist and educator. Named #1 Rising Star Violinist by Downbeat Magazine’s Critics Poll in 2021, she has released six albums as a leader.“Branches Vol. 2” (2021) was named Bandcamp’s “Best Jazz of 2021”. She has been featured on major publications, including Grammy.com, WBGO Jazz United and The Pulse, Strings magazine, Jazz Sessions, AllAboutJazz. Originally from Shizuoka, Japan, she started violin under her mother's instruction. Almost quitting the violin in her teens, she discovered jazz when her brother was listening to "Kind Of Blue" by Miles Davis and fell in love with it. She moved to the U.S. to study at Berklee College of Music and relocated to New York after to pursue her dream of jazz violin. She became a mother in 2020 and is living in Brooklyn with her son, her partner and a pianist, Glenn Zaleski and her cat. From folk to EDM to lo-fi bedroom rock to cinematic, Meir’s work radiates excellence. Her work for Facebook has been used in a number of viral videos, with hundreds of millions of views. Meir has also created content for Splice, iZotope and ToneStone. As lead singer, bandleader and songwriter for Iris Lune, Meir has released three EPs, a number of breathtaking videos, and a full length LP. A multi-award-winning vocalist, composer, producer of live music events, educator, and music activist, Fayos graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music in 2018 and from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute graduate program in 2021, where she studied with renowned jazz musicians such as Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, Tia Fuller, and Kris Davis, among others. Last December, she released her debut album of original compositions, Mi Propia Religión, receiving acclaim from the international press. In this episode:Listen to a conversation between your host Vivienne Aerts and Amsterdam based saxophone player, DJ and producer Susanne Alt, as they discuss the recording of her New York album 'Royalty for Real' and her work as board member of several Jazz associations About Susanne Alt Susanne Alt is a saxophone player, dj and producer, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.She has been leading her own jazz band and playing alongside dj's since 1999. In 2015, Alt was asked by a booker if she's also dj'ing and as a joke she said "yes". To her dismay she discovered that this answer had consequences, she just got her first booking as a dj! Quickly she had to catch up and prepare a set.One thing lead to another, her soulful deep and funky sound immediately got picked up within the Amsterdam nightlife. Performing live sets as a unique saxophonist-dj lead to an unexpected expansion of Alt's career and also her dj-only sets (without sax) are in high demand. Developing these new skills also lead to her new band "Venus Tunes Live", an all-female dj/live act: One vocalist, one percussionist and one saxophonist, all dj'ing and performing originals in the mix with other hot tracks.As a saxophone player deeply rooted in jazz, funk and soul, Alt is embracing the multiple musical possibilities of a dj/producer, stretching out into electronic music, especially everything that's soulful, funky and deep.In 1978, Alt is born in Würzburg, Germany. Both parents are musicians and music teachers.At the age of 18, after classical saxophone studies at Meistersinger-Konservatorium Nuremberg (1993-1996) and winning a Siemens young talent talent prize (1996), she leaves Germany to study jazz saxophone in the Netherlands at Hilversums Conservatorium/Conservatorium van Amsterdam (1996-2000). She continues her studies at Universität der Künste Berlin (2000-2003) and graduates cum laude.In 2004 she debutes as a producer with her 2004 release Nocturne on her own record label Venus Tunes. Releases include several jazz albums and funk album Saxify (2016) which she describes as her masterpiece up to now. Throughout 2016-2018 dance remixes of Saxify are released, ready to be played by Venus Tunes Live and as a dj. Since 2018, Alt has been focusing on her label, producing, her monthly guest mix on radio Freak31 and continuing to perform live as dj and saxophonist. She is known for her “expansive and electrifying” songwriting and her versatile vocal abilities, which have seen her professional career span a range of genres, from modern jazz to indie pop, early to contemporary classical music, and nearly everything in between. Based in New York City since 2011 and Los Angeles since 2020, she has released four EPs and an album as RVBY MY DEAR. Her debut album Waiting (Villainy Records, 2019) was produced by Andrew Lappin and garnered high praise from indie tastemakers such as The Line of Best Fit and The Deli Magazine, as well as landing on Trip-Hop Nation’s Best of 2019 list. The single “Try” was also a semi-finalist in the Unpublished category of the 2019 International Songwriting Competition. Her follow-up self-titled EP (Spirit House Records, 2022) was featured on Bandcamp’s New & Notable and received airplay on Triple J’s Home & Hosed. Gabbi is currently a soprano with the new music collective C3LA and the All Saints Beverly Hills Choir.When not writing, recording, or performing, Gabbi is a freelance music supervisor for independent films and also teaches private voice and piano lessons to students of all ages and skill levels. She is certified in Somatic Voicework Levels 1-3 and holds a BFA in Jazz Voice from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music (Salutatorian) and a Bachelor of Music from the West Australian Academy of Performance Arts.
